    As someone who has tried to get wheels recently (this year), It seems like the problem is not on the customer side. There is demand. I picked out my favorite wheels from 5 different big name companies, and these were my responses:
    1. Placed order, wheel delivery date was pushed back a month. Then another, then another etc.. never came back in stock.
    2. “Put your order in but we can’t guarantee you when this shipping container will get here or if you will get an allocation, demand is 2 months ahead of delivery”
    3. Two companies were out of stock entirely, and website “in stock” dates just pushed further every day.
    Finally (took 6 months of this^) found a company out of CA that cuts the wheels there, instead of cutting overseas then shipping. Wheels were 19x10s not a crazy niche size either.

      No, good quality good looking wheels are still required nothing changes a cars apearance like wheels, offsets, colors size etc etc
      Racing, track, drag, rally etc etc
      Stance
      individuality wheels say as much as the car do about your style, your personality.
      The mass produced manafacturers wheels are still crap, designs hard to clean, brake dust collectors yes there is the exception, but trust me most I deal with are dam ugly.
      I run BBS and Enkei’s on my cars, some were factory specc by those companies, some are AF.
      if AF wheel companies go, it’s the death of the car period..
      Everything has cycles up and down, things are going through massive downs at the mo near,y everywhere, so media need again to promote positive outlooks not doom and gloom, you create reality at times guys. Let’s get through these next few years. Ride out the rough roads..

    Also the fact that I don't want to spend thousands on wheels, when I can spend way less on the rest of the car to make it look good. Paint, body kit, engine dressings, aftermarket lights, interior fabrics, etc. All those things have gotten cheaper while wheels have gotten more expensive.
    I just picked up a set (4) of Matte Bronze Enkei EV5 (18") off a wrecked Honda Prelude at the junk yard for $120. They have very little curb rash and a few scratches on two of the wheels faces. I'm just gonna sand it down about a half a mm or less and repaint them with a matte clear finish, polish the aluminum lips, then slap some good rubber on and be done with it for about $600 total. Normally these would be around $900 after tax/shipping, and that's without tires. Add tires and balancing and you're looking at $1200-$1700 depending on the size, type and brand of tires.
    I basically got a steal from the junk yard and a little extra work on my part. I'm gonna do the same with paint; go get a $500 spray at Maako with extra clear coat, then bring it home to sand and wax the orange peel down to a nice mirror like finish. Rather than spending $3000 for basically the same thing.
    What I'm trying to say is, getting basic work done then DIY customizing it is the new way of working on cars and wheels don't fit into that other than finding used ones and refinishing/repainting them. A set of used $120 EV5's is way easier to get sanded and powder coated, or repainted, than a new set that you already spent $800/$900 on, that only comes in three colors and look like everyone else's. If aftermarket wheels wanna stay in the game they need to have more competitive prices. If my oem wheels look good its cheaper to just paint those and change the tires. That's just my opinion though, I don't wanna drop $3000 on a set of wheels and tires when I can get used ones for half the price or less and fix them up a bit.

  • @ProjectSun91
    @ProjectSun91 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having an aftermarket rims and good performance tires along the way would make sense if you plan on bringing those sets primarily to head out for the Track Circuit, AutoX, Drift Events, Drag race, etc. while still keeping the stock rims for daily driving purposes or hell even winter usage like keeping the winter tires on for your stock rims and still keep your aftermarket rims with good performance tires for the summer. These are one of the examples that aftermarket rims do have their practical purposes aside from aesthetics and cost.

IF THEY’RE SMART, AFTERMARKET WHEEL MANUFACTURERS WILL LOWER THEIR PRICES TO $500 or LESS PER WHEEL IF THEY WANT TO MOVE PRODUCT AND NOT GO BANKRUPT. this might not fit with your current business model, but I'd like to be able to search and purchase from both aftermarket and wheels available as replacements for manufacturers cars. There might be an amazing Audi or Porsche (edit: or Cadillac or Honda) wheel that works better for my car than an aftermarket brand. Or does that just further diminish the after market?
    edit: also, why does everyone seem to keep the weights of wheels a secret? That seems like a weird unspoken collusion

    We all have our taste, style and money to spend on wheels or any other addition mods. This makes us all car enthusiasts enjoy the car scene each day. We all learn from being enthusiasts. Unfortunately, during this pandemic it's hard for many to spend money on wheels when jobs are laying off or furloughing workers and cannot pay bills. Besides, many of these companies prefer going bankrupt then selling wheels at a lower price.

    Ehhhh maybe in the States, but out here in japan, even mini vans have aftermarket wheels. The small compact trucks here have them as well and they're generally used for work. I def don't think it's dying anytime soon lol may just get more expensive to import though

    • @ThatGuyRighty
      @ThatGuyRighty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good it's alive and well there. Thumbs up to that. I am up north in the salt belt(States). Your not gonna see many people with aftermarket rims due to the potholes up here. Paying $800, $1500, $2300 or more for wheels isn't worth it. Also have friends who's cars is modded to hell and back but on stock wheels. They switch the tires out as the season changes but that's cause they choose to be sleepers.

    Insurance companies killed the modified scene here in the UK. If you mod your car you have to inform your insurance company whom will then hike your premium for... reasons... I guess? Many don't inform them but then run the risk of having an accident, the insurance company will come look over the car and if they find undeclared mods they will straight up refuse to support your claim, leaving you with a big lawsuit. And when I say "mods" I literally mean anything from aftermarket wheels or headlights to stickers. Someone I know had their insurance claim refused and then they were unable to find insurance after an accident because they put a sticker of a flower around their filler cap. And people still believe we live in a free country...
    So, what's the alternative? Simple; Finance a completely stock matte grey Golf R and be just like everybody else.
