One of Ford's best designed cars in the 1960,,s
I agree
That was my dad’s first new car, but his was white.
This and the 64 Galaxie XL are two of my favorites.
Hats off to whom ever painted this car. Black is difficult to make look this good, the panels are all flawless.
Very beautiful Ford.
I always liked this design. One of their more stylish .
Don't see a 60 this nice anymore, beautiful example Karl. Thank you Charles for featuring this rare machine.
Somebody's favorite lesbion aunt had wonderful cursve penmanship, I'm guessing, but probably not all as good as this example.
Beautiful!......Growing up in the Mid-West, in the 1960s, in Ohio. This was a popular car in my neighborhood. My best friend's folks had this model Ford,....and as kids we used play inside of it,....dreaming of our future of driving it one day. That day never came, sadly. However, by the mid 1970s,....these cars were around, everywhere,.....gently used. My college buddy had one, and we did drive it around our college town. Even then, it was a "cool" retro ride. And we thought we were the "coolest cats", driving it and being seen, driving it. Great restoration, it looks fantastic.
Once again Charles walks us down nostalgia lane as only he can. The chrome the glitter the extravagance. I think the word Im looking for to sum up this time period is BODACIOUS. Shine on Charles.
And like a tuxedo in black with silver and chrome. Sweet rich ride to have.
My first car at age 15 was a '60 Starliner. That was 50 years ago! Mine was red with a white top, and it had a 292 with the Ford-O-Matic. The steering wheel told me it had power steering, but it didn't work. I paid $150.00 for it.
It was slow, and with 160k miles on the clock, it smoked a bit. I rebuilt the engine in 10th grade auto shop, and drove it through high school. When I was away at college, my brother drove it until it was stolen. Otherwise, I might still have it! This black one is VERY nice. Thanks.
I love any day when a Charles Phoenix video is in my feed!!!!
Such flair! Nowadays not so much.....
Nowadays not at all!
Oh my goodness, 1960 was my birth year. Sweet car!
One of the nicest Fords ever!
That is one beautiful car,, Love to have one just like this,, At least I can dream ..😂👍👍👍👍👍
You have excellent taste, Charles.
I watched your 1958 Buick video, and this car looks very understated and modest compared to that.
The only "spacier" Ford design had to have been the 61-63 Bullet Birds, my personal favorites, but this is a VERY close second. Karl did an amazing job on the resto, it looks absolutely stunning. I hope Karl is showing it, or at least getting it out in public for everyone to enjoy.
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the close-up of this fantastic hardtop. The 1960 Starliner is my favourite Ford! Cheers from Canada.
Always more of a GM guy, but the 1960 Ford One Year only style really grabs me...esp the Starliner and the Station Wagon. Thanks Karl and Charles
One of a kind, my favorite 60 ford
I had forgotten just tell beautiful this car was. It truly was ahead of its time and my goodness the styling was magnificent.
So refreshing after the '59 thing... then Ford went a totally other direction in '61. Truly a unique stunner, here!
When I was a kid my mon had a black 60 Galaxy 500. I’ve wanted a 60 Starliner or Sunliner ever since. Beautiful car!
Hi charles awesome car thanks alot. Cheers mate🇦🇺
Gorgeous bit of machinery. The thing I appreciate most is the appreciation that Charles expresses with that superb collection of superlatives ❤️❤️
oh man...one of my all time fav fords. truly a unique style, different from before and after. and the big engine in this one too. really a personal jet to the stratosphere.
I have a fully restored black 1961 390 tri-power 4 speed Starliner. Back in the mid 70's I had a white 352/360 HP 4 speed Starliner that I sold regretfully.
I love the car and Charles i like your term for the fins . The car is beautiful .
I was born in 1960, I doubt my parents had a 1960 car then, but like the idea of me cruising around in a 1950's car as a newborn :)
What a beauty! Sad that American cars are no longer designed for the USA; our car companies have all gone global and are now selling cars produced using "Global Design Language", the identical cars as Chinese, French, Egyptians, British, etc. Big, beautiful cars like this one are reminders of how wonderful America was in the '50s and '60s (and could be again).
Only year for this design. I absolutely love them. First noticed them in "From Russia With Love" (1963) as a wagon model. Such a modern design coming so close on the heels of the '50's. Very rare nowadays. I grew up in SoCal and they were everywhere back in the day. Such a beautiful example.
Another great Car! Thank you Charles!!
Gorgeous Ford Charles! “ Behold the glory” 👍
Another fabulous Charles Phoenix review. His passion! His voice! His love for mid-century! Oh, my!
Wow! Beautiful. Henry Ford II must have been very proud of this car.
Beautiful styling and perfect color choice
Hermoso. Slu2 desde Rivera, Uruguay🇺🇾
My parents bought one new in Yellow It had the fender skirts that matched the rear quarter panel design. Our father was stationed in the Philippines' in 62' and it was shipped there never to return.
The sheer expanse of open window area is striking
It is so gorgeous! Amazing car
"Hey Good Lookin"
my first car was an all white 60 Sunliner convertible with a 352 4-bbl . very fast and fun.
Lovely Starliner except for the spring shackles and cheap o tail pipes. My dad’s final car was a ‘60 Fairlane 2 door sedan - very memorable car for all of the right reasons.
A fabulous gorgeous car….that is a real car.
I've always loved this car. Always. Can't afford a real one, but since I was a kid (I'm 66), I've been into building model cars. AMT has a fantastic model kit of this car, which I recently completed - guess that will have to do unto I win the lottery!
Underrated. This was the first year of a new body design, clearly done by some of the same guys who worked on the 1961 Lincoln and also the German Ford 1960 Taunus.. With Ford's own "Thunderbird" roofs becoming fashionable, this 1957 Plymouth style two door hardtop roofline only lasted that one year.
MAGNIFICENT Charles darling
Beautiful car!
Stunning. 😍😍
I know a guy with two beautiful 1960 Starliners..... both black with red interior and both with 427's.... really cool cars.
Beautiful car, another great video!
Most likely ford's best looking car ever. Great great automobile
When I saw this video, I thought I wonder if this is the same car I have seen a couple of times around South Pasadena, and sure enough, it's THE ONE
Best designed Ford model of the decade ansd a swan song to real Ford styling...before they went slab-sided. The '60 Starliner is a work of art.
Let’s get this right out the in the open, this car is beautiful.
"The handwriting of your favorite lesbian Aunt" will NEVER get old😂
Nice!!!!!
GREAT Car... AND ??? ( Does love the handwriting of his Favorite Lesbian Aunt )..
Charles what a great find. I like the 1961 better with the round tail lights.
You should joyride a 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire in the near future.
That Ford is just…sexy. I KNOW!!!
nice but not 360 hp "352 motor (originally introduced in 1958) as an option for both 60 and 61, and its 352 high performance engine optional for 1961 (available only with a manual transmission). The latter optional engine offered 360 HP; Ford's first engine to have a more than 1HP rating per cubic inch."
Yeah, the 352 HO wasn’t painted blue either - silver gun metal grey as I recall. The HO had a different air breather, aluminum intake, performance exhaust headers, etc. Visually much different. The Starliner depicted has the 300hp version.
There is something missing from modern cars!
🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒
Sadly, the bad boys in my eighth grade class all had pockets full of those gun sight fender ornaments.
Hey Charles it's funny I bought my first new car at Downey Ford also in 1985 I bought a 1985 Ford escortGT turbo from the best salesman at Downey Ford named Eli Wells I even know the owner used to be Jim Graham and he bought Santa Margarita Ford in Santa Margarita California where I bought my last new car now I moved out of the state but I bought every car from 85 to 2005 from them.
Thank you Jesus I don't have a voice like that. omg.
A neighbor had a light orchid metallic ‘60 Starliner
The 1960 FE 352 4 barrel Thunderbird Special engine was rated at 300 HP. It had 10.2 compression and a Holley 4 barrel. The special order HIPO was 360 bhp gross.
Yes those V8s had some power - but the 352 with 360hp was a special limited version with high compression, manifolds, big carbs etc. But that motor sounds great probably 300hp or so - plenty of power for that little coupe ha. 🏁
Narration is ridiculously good! 😅
I actually think this is a great looking car, especially for its time.
Probably my favorite Ford of all. The rear end looks a little high. Either Karl had the leaf springs re-arched, or he's got "helpers" back there. Beautiful car!
Yep... Those are shackles poking it up.
@@slicksnewonenow Thanks! I figured that was it. Don't know that any shop still re-arches leaf springs.
Shackles are flipped. You could do that on early full size fords by placing the spring below the hanger on the frame
My ‘64 Galaxie looks similar even new 6 leaf springs .
Charles, you should have the owner do a horn honk in every video. It would be a hoot not to mention interesting.
Good times . American car companies could make big , floaty rides and fuel economy be damned ! Everyone was happy .
The STARLINER Was Only Built In 1960 & 1961. And These Two Are My Favorate Model FORDS . Thanks For Showing But Did You Ever Do A Video On The 61 STARLINER ????? Sure Would Like To See That Also.
Unlike a lot of others, I have always loved the look of Ford's 1960 full-size car. But upon looking at the full frontal view in this video, it looks a little Plymouth-y. So unlike the 1959 and 1961 Fords, perhaps the '60 Ford had a little Virgil Exner influences?
I know you can get anything you need for flatheads and Mustangs, but these Eisenhower era Fords are fairly uncommon at shows and I’m curious if parts are hard to come by.
Late 50s, Early 60s by the big three, I know!!!
The only thing better in the entire universe (of cars) is the 1960 Sunliner. Talk about the sky's the limit. Yes, the Starliner lets you reach for the stars, but the Sunliner gives you the sun, the moon and the stars. If you are really lucky you will have a 1960 Edsel Ranger convertible so you can go to Altair IV to rescue Altaira. I known. Do you know? 🛸
My uncle had a 1961 iirc with the more traditional grill. It was Burgundy and Dusty 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, I'm a lesbian and I love doing fancy cursive handwriting.
Oh! Are *you* the one Charles refers to?! 🤓🏳️🌈
The Original headliner had little Stars punched out in it
interesting that the car has that early 1960s factory air evaporator, but there is no compressor under the hood. Black car? The owner could surely get a new system plumbed in.
A stunningly beautiful car with a spectacular history. Regrettably I choose to dislike your presentation, and you know why.
My brother had a red convertible 1960 Ford. It was large and stylish and was much nicer than the Plymouth and Chevrolet offerings.
Traded my friend in 61 a j2 olds conv 57 for one of them traded it infor a 60 cad conv olds had no air cond friend wanted the olds 352 was probably220- 300 HP
No round taillights
No Thunderbird roof
Beautiful Ford, but the back is sitting a wee bit too high!
I thought so too. It looks a little hot rodded.
Yes, it's nice looking. Though,
Delta Wings? Obvious reply to
'59 Chevy. Downforce? We don't need no stinking downforce. 😄
Funny, but true story...
The '59 Chevy had really "deep" sculpted fins that the engineers found to cause rear end lift at high speed... Because they raced them (win on Sunday, sell on Monday) , they redesigned the fins to be more shallow for 1960, so the cars wouldn't "get light" while being raced.
@@slicksnewonenow Yup, my neighbor bought a new '59 Chevy Wagon - red with a white roof. They told me it would start to fly at 80mph. Left quite an impression on 7 years old car enthusiast mind. Cheers
The 352 was a good engine but no powerhouse. The 390 which was the same block was much more powerful. We had a 61 country Sedan with a 352 which my father rebuilt. A 64 wagon and my bro in law had a 62 Thunderbolt all with that engine.
The 1960 352 Hi Po with solid lifters and iron headers was damn hot for the time at 360 HP . And was the first U.S. engine rated at more HP than cubic inches.
I'd say the 352 Hi Po would easily beat the non Hi Po 390 of the following year.
Reversing the rear springs rear shackles, stupid idea.
The trunk is off.
Not so much parked as "posed" lol
The only thing I don't like about this car's styling are the back lights. Compared to the sparkling grill, they are so plain Jane!
I like them, I think the half moon shape goes great with the Galaxie name and theme
This is the only FORD 😳that look like a GM 😵💫💕I think 🤔 😬
Isn't that a 59 Ford?
