😄 Well, if mother wants to play those games, OP should play those games.
I mean, she basically told her daughter there's no point earning the things she wants because she doesn't actually own anything she buys out of her own money, so the same rules apply. Mum can go swivel, and OP should have a yard sale. 😆

Agreed! That blows my mind! I asked my son (without sharing the reddit story) what he would do in that scenario. He's an independent 25 year old, and he had a great solution. Agree to the terms, sign a "lifetime access" contract, and then get a bank account with both of us on it, that the check is deposited to. That way both people have access to money.
I mean, that is if you trust each other. OPs son has shown he's not trust worthy. I just can't fathom his son's thoughts. Right now, my son's name is on my checking, savings, and credit cards. He could use any of them at anytime, and yet, he won't. Even if I ask him to use my money to buy something for me, he refuses to. "It's not my money to spend". (Just to explain why his name is on everything - I gave him full medical and legal PoA after my health started going downhill with an MS and Lupus diagnosis. I know I'll go tounger than I should, and the last thing I want is for him to have to worry about paperwork and "duties" while he's grieving. So, I'm trying to set up everything to be as easy and streamlined as possible.)
It also hurts my heart to hear that son told his dad "you could be around 40 more years!" like it was a bad thing. So many people, myself included, would give almost anything to have that extra time with their parents. And he's bemoaning that possibility.

That is not strictly accurate. It largely depends on the State laws. For example, in Michigan, lottery winnings will continue to be paid to the winner's heirs/next of kin on the same schedule as to the winner. (I'm fairly certain this is true in ALL States, but research your own State to verify).
Without a will, the division will typically go through Probate (which us why immediately making a will and clear division is important once won).
In most States, if more than one name appears as claimant the amount is redivided equally between the names or at least shared in accordance to the original division plus the deceased individuals part split evenly between remaining names.

*First OP:* Idk if OP's son is greedy or just a Kevin. Also, why would OP give any of his winnings to his _ex_ wife? OP is NTA.
*Second OP:* I'm angry on OP's behalf. If her sisters don't think the bag is such a big deal, then _they_ can pay for the amount to make her whole. Also, if OP can report her mom's friend for theft, she definitely should. OP is NTA, and I hope she opens a savings account for when she's old enough to leave home.
*Third OP:* Why do I feel like OP's dad's new wife was his affair partner, and that's (one of the reasons) why OP doesn't claim his stepsiblings? Anywho, barring from emergencies or unusual circumstances, OP doesn't have to cook for his stepsiblings if he doesn't want to. OP is NTA, and his dad sounds exhausting.
*Fourth OP:* If it hasn't been made already, there should be a subreddit about people calling other people out through reddit posts. This was good stuff 🍿. I do feel bad about what OP went through, and I'm glad she's leaving the situation. I'm also glad she's protecting her future child from the toxic environment. She'll be a great mom. OP is NTA.
*Fifth OP:* OP is being disrespectful for laughing at their sister's baby's name? OP's _sister_ is being disrespectful for naming her kid Ruff. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: giving your kid a ridiculous name is a form of child abu5e. They _will_ get bullied for it. OP is NTA.

Story 1: Reminds me of the relationship between 50 Cent and his oldest son. The kid, most likely influenced by his bitter mom, grew up to want more money from his father. Meanwhile, 50 would send something along the lines of $64K a year. The kid went on a podcast and argued with the host about how that's not enough to live off of (in New York; mind you, he's not working himself, and 50 also tried setting him up with businesses like a shoe store on top of this $64K, but he failed at that too). He thought, because 50 was rich, he should have an easy life and everything given to him. These kids (50's son and OP's son) just exist or are bred that way, somehow.

The last story: Absolutely NOT the butthole. While I understand that parents want to be unique and give their children interesting names, but what some parents don't understand, their children will have to grow up with those names and live with those names. In my over four decades on this planet, I've heard some of the most strangest and downright cruel names. In passing, I heard a lady had named her son Human. Who does that? There was another lady I knew who named her daughter Echo. The naivety and arrogance of the parents to refuse to accept that their children will be bullied is just staggering. I got bullied for wearing glasses and having acne. I can only imagine how much worse the bullying would have been had I had an unusual name.

Tbh with the bag story, I do not think the mother sold it. I think the FRIEND sold it or it got stolen from the careless friend because it's AN OBVIOUS EXPENSIVE DESIGNER BAG.
Mommy dearest just wanted to look posh for a day and she lashed out at her daughter for 'being selfish' and not letting the family share in her status-symbol of perceived wealth. The mother is being sheepish and defensive because her good faith 'I will lend this to my friend and get all the kudos for being wealthy and nothing will go wrong, my daughter is being selfish' nonsense came back to bite her in the butt. I bet mom didn't even tell the friend the bag belonged to her DAUGHTER.
Technically, the lawsuit should be against mom. Mom STOLE her own teen kid's property and loaned it out. Mom is responsible for repaying OP. The friend received stolen goods and lost/sold it. But in practice, it's better to claim against the friend because authorities will say it's a family matter and refuse to get involved most of the time if a minor makes a claim against their parent for theft.

With the bag story, I feel the only appropriate recourse is to just start taking all the mom's stuff and "lending it to friends" then watch how "childish" she gets over her stuff.

When I was a kid, german shepherds were the popular dog, and a popular name for a girl dog was Sasha.
There was this girl who moved to our town and started attending our school named Sasha. I really don't remember her ever being bullied about her name. What would make other kids laugh at a name would be similarities to body functions: snot, poop, etc.

Last story: 1, Dabney? OP's sister and her husband get 3 buttholes. 1.) You've saddled your kid with a name that is the sound a dog makes which will set up years of teasing and tormenting. 2.) You named him after some obscure video game character? I love a lot of video games but I don't name my kids after them - especially characters that have a stupid name like that. 3.) When confronted with a small taste of the teasing and tormenting your kid will experience by OP laughing at the name, you decide to freak out and cut contact (because your ego can't handle the possibility you screwed up) - an act the kid won't be able to do with the bullies who will harass him day after day. 1 butthole for each stupid reason.

Story 1: NTA, it’s your money your rules and your settings him up for life. Lottery tickets bring out the worst in people and OPs kid is an idiot because he’s wasted this deal
Story 2: NTA, its your bag that you bought with you’re money you earned so you’re feelings are valid that you are feeling
Story 3: NTA, it’s not your responsibility op and i don’t blame you not wanting to be with your dad
Story 4: NTA, your ex’s family is insane and hate op and your ex isn’t standing up for you and yet gives relationship advice but can’t do any of them he basically doesn’t care about you op and I’m glad you’re leaving him he should marry his mom don’t ever make that cringy statement ever again
Story 5: NTA, that’s funny and unfortunately people will bully this kid and it’s definitely going to make this kids school life miserable

Story 4: You know how sons can't marry their mothers, right? It's clear OP's husband is only in this marriage just so that he can have kids and he has a maid and mother to do things for him. I hate this kinda family dimatic, I'm getting sick of it, can't we just go back to them marrying their spouses because they truly love them and care about them as well as have kids with them and look after the kids rather than just marrying them so that they can continue their bloodline and get a mother for the children as a bonus?

Yes, Dennis' dog _is_ named Ruff. However, since they specified they were naming him after a video game character, everyone has concluded they probably mean Ruff from *Dragon Quest 7,* who was a white wolf pup who was "irrevocably turned into a boy." So... still essentially a dog.

Guys guys, if we assume OP in the first story lives till he's 80, that ticket comes out to a little over 10.5 million dollars. Splitting that with his son makes 5.29 million. By the time the son is 48, he would've already had *5.29 million* dollars. And then he would've got the rest from his dad via inheritance!!

    • @wingracer1614
      @wingracer1614 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

I wouldn't get it from inheritance, he would get it because he is the one that claimed the winning ticket. All he would need to do to keep all the money is just stop sending half to his now deceased dad. But that's over with now, he blew it. Dad took the just over 5 million lump sum payment instead. He better start being nice to his dad or he might get written out of the will.

Fourth Story: Yikes, what a loser of a guy NTA
