Loved steptoe and son R.I.P. Harry The best episode I loved in the series is when Harry divided the house into 2 I’ve never laughed so much Thanks 🙏 Harold for the great shows!!!
I think that episode "Divided We Stand" is the only episode Harry ever corpsed in - just after old Albert finds his old false teeth - lost after a landmine explosion in 1942 - and puts them in, saying "my gums have shrunk" Harry laughs as he says "that is the most revolting thing....." That episode had an especially warm and appreciative studio audience.
I was thinking the same thing. I vaguely recall when he died as even though I was a child in 1982 I was aware of who he was. But now the headstone looks like nobody has touched it for a hundred years.
@@angeloddrev I suppose, to be fair, the tombstone is 40 years old now so the elements will have played a part in its condition. But yes, a good clean up wouldn't go amiss.

The combination of Galton & Simpson’s superlative script writing and two excellent comedy actors that resulted in a rare work of TV genius. Steptoe and Son was not just very funny, it could also be sad, and at times even tragic. It was unique. One of the best light comedy series ever produced by the BBC. I never tire of it.
I met Ray Galton and Alan Simpson once, about 6 years after Corbett's death. They were regulars at a restaurant in Twickenham where I worked briefly, and I had the pleasure of serving them, although I didn't know them by sight at the time. They were just 2 customers to me. I then met Simpson on his own another 20+ years later when attending a football match at Hampton & Richmond Borough, where he was one of the directors.

Another fascinating video and yes, Steptoe And Son was a terrific series and I'm glad that I only discovered years after they had both passed that they really didn't get along (to put it mildly).

When I was young I used to play in a jazz orchestra in Sunderland. There was a disaster in Doxford Shipyard in 1966. A benefit was held in Sunderland Empire for he victims, I think 11 men killed, and Harry H Corbett was on the Show which he gave his time to freely and it was a success. I met him and he was a hell of a nice guy. Other acts included Susan Maughan the singer. My claim o fame? Making the noise of someone breaking wind on my trumpet when Harry H bent down in a comedy sketch. That is absolutely true, I was 16 at the time. The band I used to play with was The Ray Chester Big Band I played split lead trumpet with some fabulous musicians.
Absolutely love Steptoe and Son!It bought happiness to millions. That was a very informative and interesting video, well done.It looks a wonderful part of England to rest.RIP Harry. ❤

Always delivered with respect and dignity Paul, the story tell is full of facts, clearly well researched. Yes Steptoe and Son was one of the best British comedies around and drew a large following. Sad to see such an unkept grave yard with so much lichen on the head stones. Harry's catch phrase "You dirty old man" will stay in the mind of many.
Thank you for this video. What a shame to see his headstone in such neglect for someone who brought us so much happiness. Rest in peace Harry H Corbett.

Carry on Screaming!…..such a classic film! Harry H Corbett will always be remembered in this film alongside the great Jim Dale. Subscribed……excellent channel and very addictive watching👍🏻
Very interesting, thank you. my favourite steptoe and son episode, was the one that featured Leonard Rossiter, who played an escaped convict. the chemistry between Corbett and Rossiter was brilliant, & as they were both perfectionists, they brought the best out of one another
Thanks so much for taking us on today’s visit. Just brilliant! Brought back such warm memories of family time around the telly laughing out loud. I’m off to find an episode of Steptoe and Son now lol. Watching from New Zealand 🇳🇿
St Michael the archangel - I think that’s who priests pray to when they exercise evil spirits. I will never forget the episode with Leonard Rossiter who had just escaped from Wormwood Scrubs with an elderly fellow inmate and they decided to break into Steptoe’s yard - They could not have chosen a worse place to seek sanctuary. An absolutely brilliant episode from the 1960’s.
Enjoyed this video immensely, just like you I was a big fan of Steptoe & Son, me and my father (sadly gone now) used to love watching it, don't make comedy like that anymore unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.
Sometimes actors can take on a part that becomes so iconic that it is difficult if not impossible to better. It cuts across all genres. For a great many people, Harry's legacy will be, in part, the joy and entertainment he provided throughout his career. It is a marvelous thing for anybody to be remembered with simple fondness and appreciation and there's no doubt Harry managed that. While many will be aware of his great acting talent, people will always love his relationship with that "derty ole man." RIP Harry. 😎😎😎

I watch this every night before retiring. I love this show. They both worked so well together. My favorite episode was where Albert hurt his back and was in bed for weeks. Harold hiding in the pantry was so funny.
I’m constantly amazed at how neglected so many of the graves are in these videos. Surely they have families (if not fans) who would be in a position to look after the grave and/or headstone.

Thanks for this!
That’s awesome, and yes it was meant to be for you…… 🙏
@@UnusualThings1 Well the reverend seems happy. I put him in contact with a local school that may sing at the church. Perhaps that's what it was about..? Law of attraction etc.
Last point. Thanks for producing this channel. Its excellent. You should be proud of it
Thank you for this video! I just watched ''Seance in a Wet Rag and Bone Yard' tonight with a beverage whilst visiting my Dad, he introduced me to Steptoe and Son and watching Harry tonight was a reminder of how brilliant an actor he was.
And wasn't Patricia Routledge brilliant as well?
Excellent video loved steptoe and son growing up still watch when it comes on TV thank you for sharing
So sad the way the grave is dull and neglected for a legend like harry, i love steptoe and son, great job and i enjoyed the video, love halloween, donald was great in it
Sometimes there are no living relatives to tend the grave also people move away and don’t come back so often as I was thinking the same when I saw the stone
Yes Donald is an absolute legend…. Yes it’s a shame how the grave has ended up.
@@timetraveller9321 True, My Friend but once again I see that, in his case, his daughter lives in East Sussex, which is where this Church is and she is only around 60 years old but,of course, we do not know the circumstances. June Whitfield also had a daughter and only died in 2018 and yet that grave already looks unattended.
He has a daughter, she an actress the spitting image of him,,
I realise we do not know the details of their relationship but she lives in East Sussex where he is buried and look at his grave and headstone.
Well said
My favorite part of your videos is when you touch the headstone and thank the person for their work or services because, by a hard-to-explain extension, you are thanking them on my behalf as well.
Another fascinating video and yes, Steptoe And Son was a terrific series and I'm glad that I only discovered years after they had both passed that they really didn't get along (to put it mildly).
I remember the time he died in March 1982, Wilfred Brambell was interviewed on "Nationwide" on BBC One and he was very emotional.
I remember that same interview. Poor guy was absolutely devastated.
Think because he died so young as well
I know he died shortly afterwards himself..
I heard they didn't get on.
@@philipbooth7779 yeah I always was told they litterally couldn't stand each other
"the moles" was on fairly recently, RIP harry, you brought much laughter in your programes and him and wilfred brambell were pure comedy.
Absolutely love Steptoe and Son, always makes me laugh! My great grandad, in his younger days, actually looked abit like Wilfrid Brambell....he actually had a horse and cart for his job 😂 That's where the similarities end though as he wasn't a rag and bone man lol.
Love the Carry On films too and Carry On Screaming is another fave of mine, even though I use to have a recurring nightmare when I was a kid of Harry as the thing he turns into 🤣
Love the shirt and you've just said 2 of my fave horror films too. Love the older horrors.
Thanks for another great video Paul and for always being so respectful 🙏🏻
What a great video. Love the way you presented and gave a good commentary throughout.
Thanks.
Thanks for posting this, such a brilliant show.
What a lovely peaceful place to be laid to rest 👍
Thanks for the wonderful comedy RIP
I loved steptoe and son was a quality programme
.. abit before my time but used to watch it with my mum
Absolutely love Steptoe and Son!It bought happiness to millions. That was a very informative and interesting video, well done.It looks a wonderful part of England to rest.RIP Harry. ❤
Thanks for doing this. I loved Harry in the show. xx
This was really interesting and quite touching. What a lovely peaceful place. He was a figure from my childhood, I can still hear his voice. Thank you for the video.
He was such a funny brilliant actor I loved Steptoe and son I grew up watching the series and Carry on Screaming is my favourite Carry on because of him, thanks for doing this video.
One of my favourite shows Steptoe & Son. Great actor and I learnt something about him today. Nice to see flowers on his grave too.
This man entertained me more than any other . Today I still use some of his catchphrases and shed a tear whilst watching this video .
I met the pair when filming the church scenes forvthe wedding when harold got married to zita. They were polite I chatted with my friend for ages both were dressed dapper we got their autographs. I was only 11 tears old I lost mine years later when I moved from home. But I will always remember how dapper they were.and how posh steptoe spoke. Great duo. Never to be seen again.x
Carry on Screaming!…..such a classic film!
Harry H Corbett will always be remembered in this film alongside the great Jim Dale.
Subscribed……excellent channel and very addictive watching👍🏻
Very interesting, thank you. my favourite steptoe and son episode, was the one that featured Leonard Rossiter, who played an escaped convict. the chemistry between Corbett and Rossiter was brilliant, & as they were both perfectionists, they brought the best out of one another
Thank you John, yes it was a great episode, that one.
A great actor.Steptoe & Son is and will always be a classic.Genius writing and acting.
Great episode, he ends up borrowing all of Leonards cigarettes 🤣
The desperate hours it was called . Remember the lumpy porridge and the old escapee saying it's ok I like lumps.
Enjoyed this video immensely, just like you I was a big fan of Steptoe & Son, me and my father (sadly gone now) used to love watching it, don't make comedy like that anymore unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.
Well said mt
Just started watching your videos the last few days. Very enjoyable Keep up the good work.
Steptoe and Son was my favourite comedy of all times, still watch them on TH-cam.
It never gets old. Them two are timeless ✨️
@@laurasinfield2431 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sometimes actors can take on a part that becomes so iconic that it is difficult if not impossible to better. It cuts across all genres. For a great many people, Harry's legacy will be, in part, the joy and entertainment he provided throughout his career. It is a marvelous thing for anybody to be remembered with simple fondness and appreciation and there's no doubt Harry managed that. While many will be aware of his great acting talent, people will always love his relationship with that "derty ole man." RIP Harry. 😎😎😎
I have watched four of your videos now and I would like to say how enjoyable I have found them. You are very professional in front of the camera. Carry on the excellent work.
That was a great watch thanks for all the info Paul quality video, Steptoe & Son was brilliant,
Another cracking vid Paul, Harry H was one one funny fella, steptoe was a classic, like you it had me in tears at times. Sad that the two main stars didn’t really get on, weird really. Keep em coming my friend. 👏👏
I love that graveyard, it's so quiet and rural . I'd love to be buried there one day lol .
Great channel by the way, you're a natural at it 👍
Brilliant information PAUL. I was brought up on 70s comedy and these two were top of the tree. I can remember sitting on the sofa about 9o'clock when it came on so excited in anticipation of a good old laugh. Poor Harold, he never got the girl and was so downtrodden. Bless him.
Such a shame Harry’s headstone not as best as it could be….very sad to see ….loved him as a actor he made me laugh and still does when see steptoe reruns …carry on screaming one of my faves ..RIP Harry xx
Paul your a natural presenter, and I enjoy your films immensely..thank you.
I'm really glad I've found your channel. Love the ones in America, but nice to find someone in the UK, looking at UK stars, and doing it with such great respect, interest and skill. Looking forward to catching up, and moving forward with you. Thank you!
I once met Fenella Fielding who played along side Harry in Carry On Screaming ( my fav ). She said Harry was a lovely man ❤️. The Steptoe films too, hilarious .
Such a good actor,Sid James was meant to be in carry on screaming, but he had to refuse due to him being committed to appearing as one of the robbers in Babes in the wood at the London Palladium, which ran from December 65 until June 66,Screaming was filmed Jan - feb 66.so glad that it’s Harry & not Sid,it made a change.
Absolutely love this channel please keep it up
Rest in peace Harry. Few people leave so many people with memories of fun a laughter as you have.
Harry was a marvellous actor and i still enjoy watching Steptoe & Son it never fails to make me smile!!! RIP Harry H Corbett.
I wish I lived within travelling distance to that graveyard, I would happily go and clean his tombstone. I love Steptoe & Son, I have the complete collection on dvd and frequently watch them. RIP Harry and thank you for so many laughs.
I'm surprised the tombstone is in such a state; however, we have his work which keeps his memory alive.
I'm the same brought up on this comedy, loved carry on screaming as well, his daughter is the image of him, I like the way you touch the headstone and thank them, I do that when I visit my family grave
Best comedy for me ever, just amazing remember watching in 70s when I was kid, I'm 57 now and got box set, I must have been about 10 but remember waiting to watch them, absolutely brilliant, crazy relationship they had, but thank god, they got together ❤ just fantastic 😀 p s texas chainsaw massacre 73 for me 😁😆👍❤
Thank you, interesting video. I was shocked by the state of his headstone though. He was such a legend.
Just found your channel recently and loving it. I worked for a year in our local graveyard and a great way to read difficult to decipher headstone engravings was I'd spray water and shine a round torch on it and that helped so much.
Outstanding actor delivering the height of comedy. Never forgotten ❤️ Brilliant visit brilliant channel
Cheers buddy. 🙏
This is my second time to watch your show. I love Steptoe and son 👍. I am especially touched, to know that Corbett went to New Guinea. It gives me another whole new perspective and respect for the guy. Thank you so much for what you're doing. Good wishes to your further endeavours. Oh, btw, I am New Guinean, living in Australia. 🙏🙏👏
And the words of the media pale into the paper upon which they were written, the voices of the interviews dissipate into the great silence of the past. Once a focus of the masses now languishing mostly forgotten, just a faded, weather worn stone in a quiet rural cemetery the only remaining clue he was ever here at all. RIP Harry Corbett.
Such a peaceful resting place 💕
Absolutely loved steptoe and son and the movie was hysterical as well pretending that the dad was dead to get the insurance money 😂
Carry on screaming was my favourite as well xx
My late friend Mick loved Harry in Carry on Screaming . He played the part instead of Sid James, who was under contract doing something else .
I have too go watch Steptoe and Son. Thank you.
Fantastic delivery of stories and vids. So happy to enjoy my history of celebrities.... thankyou x
