  • I fix a few more things on the newly purchased 2000 Honda 400ex. The solenoid comes in as well as the clutch cable. I install those and attempt the first start on the quad. Will it start with the cheap Ebay piston and cylinder? #Honda, #Willitstart?,#400cc,

      Charlie Shell the ticking us most likely the cheap piston and cylinder. Mine ticked like that somewhat. After those cheap parts blew up into pieces I got a cylinder works top end kit and sounds so much smoother

    • @charlieshell5231
      @charlieshell5231 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HG_-eh8wp I disagree for the only reason that I have a cheap cylinder piston and rings and I've had no problems and I've ridden on it a lot. I think the biggest deal is how much care you take assembling it. It may just be the one you got was less quality than the one I got or I got lucky either way I could be wrong.

    • @HG_-eh8wp
      @HG_-eh8wp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Charlie Shell yeah no it wasn’t an issue with assembly nor breaking it in. It might’ve been different brands. Idk I just don’t recommend cheap oarts

    The rattling is the lifters. You want to hear that because that means you have good valve lash. You also need to run 91octane, if you don't then you could get some predetonation. also use 10w 30 mobile 1 full synthetic, best oil you can run.

    The first part of the video, the black wire should be a negative or a ground wire. My buddy has a 2004 honda 400ex and I've been working on it for him and the black wire on their hooked up to the negative on the battery. It went to the ground on the spark plug coil. It looks like it was on there for extra ground. I guess for better spark and everything is grounded better on the coil connections. That's my guess..

    that is a testament to a Honda even after being beaten and neglected it still runs. I've noticed multiple bush fixes so I wouldn't worry about how it runs, Id just focus in the wiring. I suggest you follow an electrical route, swap out all the old wires for new ones. You found a shitty connection, nice find btw. As is runs and stops, re-doing all the wiring would be cheaper than replacing the mechanical. I've never seen an automotive air filter on a quad before, it's close to what I have in my car. My recommendation would be to dig into that before you move on to the deeper issues.

    Another awesome video man. Great camera angles for the valve adjustment. My 400EX is ticking and now you got me thinking about how to fix it. I think the stock cam chain tensioner is automatic and can’t be adjusted? I had a completely rusted out header pipe like that. I took the pipes off and removed all of the rust with a wire brush attachment on my drill. I painted it with silver VHT header paint and got it looking brand new.
