Nope, not yet. I have been binge watching your much appreciated vids on Goodreads and StoryGraph and set up my first ever Goodreads profile yesterday (okt 27th). Gonna wait and see how this series works out for you and see if I do the export /import thing. :)
Definitely worth looking more into the preferences survey. You can add a lot of tropes and themes that you like to read, and it will find those in your recommendations. If you just have “Greek mythology” that’s probably what it’s focusing on, but if you add a variety to that box, it will be able to recommend a wider scope of books 😊
Haha you finding the option to delete everything is gold :D Very good video! Just got into using story graph last year and loving it so far. I started my free trail month today and will probably buy the pro version after to support the app ^^ Through this video I discovered the roadmap feature which is very cool!
Hahaha I was so annoyed with myself but so glad I bothered looking. Can you imagine having to manually delete all those books?! And I love that! The roadmap is fantastic! I love that you can actually see what they're working on. Shows a good level of transparency
I use both, but mostly Goodreads because more people use it (and I like to see what my friends are reading), but I like that Storygraph keeps track of how much you read in terms of pages each time, and not only complete books (especially considering I didn't finish many books last year, but I did read during the year. Also, I like the filter function of the TBR using moods and pace, great for deciding what to read next.
I agree. They both serve different purposes for me too. The StoryGraph has some great stats, ways of filtering, and better book pages I find. But Goodreads has the more social aspect for sure.
Yes, I switched mostly to stop supporting Amazon. I like it, although I only use it to update on my reading status. I don't really like to use other features haah
I really enjoy the states feature on Storygraph. I also like the fact that you can track how far you are in audiobook using hours and minutes which you can't do on Goodreads.
Good question. I think a buddy read you start and invite up to 14 people too. A readalong can be up to 1000 people. I need to give both a try though because I've not yet.
@@GinaLuciaReadsIn a buddy read you enter where you are in the book (for example 14%) and then comment on that section, and your comment will be spoiler marked for anyone who isn't at that place in the book yet. In a readalong the creator can create threads to discuss portions of the book (for example a thread to discuss each chapter), rather than allowing everyone to freely create a thread wherever they are in the book. Basically, readalongs are a little more organised especially when you have more people, because you probably wouldn't want a 1000 people's random comments on every page of a buddy read :'D
Hi I’m using both atm…… going to do this for a year too….. I’ve not upgraded to plus yet but think I will as looks useful….. the free giveaways in UK is useful too but nothing has appealed to me yet:)
Oooo interesting. I'm tempted to give it a go for half a year and then upgrade for half a year to see how it goes. I totally agree though, the giveaways are underwhelming so far but I have a feeling they'll get more interesting as time goes on.
Concerning the stats of the Read-books, do you know who decides things like the mood or pace of a book, if it is “funny”, “inspiring”, “hopeful” or “reflective”, etc., or medium paced and so on? Regarding especially the moods, those feel very subjective, so I get curious about who actually labels the books?
They're done by readers. When you write a review of a book, you can add a lot of extra information like mood, pace, etc and then you can see on the page what most people 'voted' for
If you think something is really wrong (because some books are added and not correct) you can go to Report missing/incorrect information and ask them to change it.
Seems I kept circling back to this vid and curiosity got the better of me so I made an account on the Storygraph. I know your video comparing it to Goodreads is coming but I have a question in the meantime if I may? Is it worth while to use this app for a larger (working) library that also has work related reads and reference books? And if so, how would you go about setting that up? My library is just over 2k titles, 10% those are Fantasy novels. Thank you in advance for your time :)
Yes it absolutely is. You can set up tags which can categorise your books and create specific 'challenges' which make this even easier. Essentially you can tidy everything up so you keep your different types of books separate and one of the things I like is that you can change the edition so you're tracking the format too (audio, ebook, physical etc)
@@GinaLuciaReads Thank you! I think I understand most of what you mentioned. I can create like custom tags for say reference and then tags for specific topics and areas, yes? Except the 'challenges', lol, NO idea what that does. Guess I have homework for tomorrow to figure that out. Thank you again, Gina. :)
@@RonaldReads haha I knew me talking about challenges would be a little confusing without being able to show you. Have a Google of that one and see what you think. They're really flexible. And anytime!!
@@bharambedeepesh I can't find a way of changing it. You have to find the right version (under editions) and mark that one as read instead. I wish you could switch easily
Are you on The StoryGraph?
Yes I have completely switched a couple of years ago and am very happy with it
@@arobinreads I can see why you would honestly. It's a great platform run by good people!
Yes, I did the switch a few years ago for the reading stats. I love it and wouldn't go back to goodread

I think you're absolutely right. I'm going to do some experimenting and see if I can come up with some really specific stuff.

That's an excellent reason to switch and understandable, if using the basic features works for you, then it works 💪
I have never used StoryGraph, and a newbie at Goodreads, so maybe I'll give both a go. I'm a sucker for those analytics! Thanks for sharing!
The analytics are so fun! I also really like how each book has more information than you get on Goodreads. So useful! Worth giving a go
Thank you! First video I watch that shows where to go in Storygraph to import vs just showing the page.
Glad to be of help!
I really enjoy the states feature on Storygraph. I also like the fact that you can track how far you are in audiobook using hours and minutes which you can't do on Goodreads.
I like that too! They definitely think more about what users want and use
Great video as always! Excited to see your comparison video
Me too! I'm going to have to test all the features throughout the year!

I’ve never even used Goodreads, I’ve just always been a Storygraph person
That's fantastic! I've been using Goodreads since university and The StoryGraph didn't come until much later. Sometimes you get stuck in old routines.

It’s exciting to be supporting something new…. But I still have loyalty to Goodreads as used it for years but app keeps crashing 😢
Hi Gina. Excellent video. Thanks! A question: How do I incorporate my Goodreads profile photo into StoryGraph?
If you click 'manage account' on The StoryGraph, you can upload your profile pic on that page. You have to do it manually .
I'm on Story Graph now! So excited to join, & determined to cancel my GoodReads account before November ends!
