      Raven Shine yes they require about 2.5 gallons minimum and a heater and filter the water must be 78-80 degrees. Do not get fake plants it will hurt them live plants are much better. James has a lot of videos on them.

      you can also just do silk plants, some fish you have in your community tank could end up eating the real plants. I also suggest getting 1 or 2 marimo balls those will help you control your nitrate and will help balance out your tank; plus they are super easy to take care of and super hardy. c:

      It's fine to have fake plants as long as there are no sharp or ruff edges on those plants u will be fine I mean the betta fish is quite new an there is plenty of crap online u live an you learn if u make mistake it's a good leading curb I too am quite new as betta fish have really only just made it to the local fish an pet shops were I live so there isn't much knowledge or stuff known about them so I mean the research on them sometimes is a bit much u get told all these things like don't have this or that I was told at one point no stones or rocks then the dude at the pet store was like no u need a hide for them get what u feel is good for the fish an make them happy also to clear up the shrimp an fake plant thing I have ghost shrimp an they are more than happy with fake plants an eating food off the bottom I've now recently got real plants an sand in my tank as sand is super expensive in a two foot tank

Keeping an aquarium really comes down to what I saw you do in this video, i.e. thinking on where to a plant, the "struggles" of rooming in a new fish, etc. Some can take it to a whole new level of complexity. If i were you, I'd put in some dwarf anubias, dwraf cryptocorine, Elodea, Hygrophila, Guppy grass, HM (Hemianthus micranthemoides) and moss.
    Shrimp simply love the moss species and HM too. Also, HM and Hygrophila grow pretty fast (you must trim them sometimes), and so collect some waste of the aquarium.

      Yup she's right! Hygrophilia Polysperma grows like a weed even in low light, I'm needing to trim mine back in all 10 tanks every other week. You should definitely get some, it looks great, helps control nitrites and before you know it you could have a full planted tank.
      Mine started off from a single leaf that came with a bunch of Elodea, now all my tanks are full of it.
      Also get some java fern! algae grows on it easily for the shrimps.

    Beautiful Betta. Bettas often will eat shrimp. I would definitely get a lid and add some larger plants so your betta will feel more secure. Water changes ideally should be 20-30% once a week.

      Challenge the Wild yeah there known as leaf hammocks if that's what ur talking abt and if he seems to be resting a lot in the tank you can add one and they can rest on there if u get one I say add it either in the middle of the tank or at the top :)

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, they're called Betta hammocks. Personally I think they're a gimmick! You're Betta would much prefer taller plants that almost reach the surface to rest on. Bettas prefer heavily planted tanks.

    Some suggestions:
    - Get a nice tank thermometer so that you can easily see temperature differences when acclimating instead of relying on your hands. They're pretty cheap and very handy when keeping your tank temp in the correct range (they just stick to the glass so you can see the temp whenever)
    - Not sure if you did this, but when acclimating, gradually add small amounts of the tank water into the bag instead of just floating it in the tank. This allows them to get used to the water quality as well as temp. without the shock.
    - Remember to feed your betta (and other fish too!) plenty of frozen food as well as their usual pellets/flakes. Bettas are naturally carnivorous and require a very high protein diet to grow to their full potential and pellets dont usually provide enough protein (you can read the ingredients list and see how much fillers they put in)
    Overall, keep it up! You're a great fish owner!

    • @thymai4394
      @thymai4394 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, make sure you put some plants at the top of the tank/use a leaf hammock so that your betta can rest/sleep at the surface because they need to be near the surface to breathe especially when resting. You can add long plants that reach the surface. :) Good luck!

      Azannah Morton don't do it, unless your experienced then you definitely should NOT try it, bettas are fighting fish, they kill each other. You may think you know what your doing, but you seem like you have no idea, the boy in this video is obviously not experienced as to not having live plants, and thinking of adding a Betta to a community tank.

    Bettas can live with other fish. It isn't true wen people say bettas can't live with their fish. But it also is true. Some bettas are too aggressive to put in a community tank but some art as aggressive. I think he will do OK in there. Because he wasn't flaring in the bag or flaring at the fish right away!😄 Love the beta he is gorgeous!😍 tank looks awesome! I love the fish hobby. My favorite type of fish or bettas!! 😉

      Lizzie Carroll well that can be true. But some bettas do like having take mates. If you do put a betta in a community tank I watched them very very closely for the first week or two. If everything is gone good and there hasn't been any aggression or flaring then everything is good. But still need to keep an eye on them. if there is any fin nipping I'd take the betta out!😁 I had one male betta that lived with a community tank and never flared or attacked once.😁

    • @polyfuze
      @polyfuze 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i believe you can keep as many bettas together as you want as long as you don't add them all at once and have a big 80+ gallon tank with lots of floating plants and niche areas. I have kept up to 17 bettas at once in a single tank with other fish and they exhibited absolutely no aggressive behavior i.e nibbling, chasing, or bothering other fish. Some even started laying eggs, which were always unfortunately eaten by their own fish.

    Since the day i started having tanks, my bettas thrive in a community tank and live for atleast 6 years. I do 1 betta per tank. They love to stay in caves and spend most of its time inside. If you have a bubble or even a bit of air inside the cave, it will use it for breathing and wont even leave his territory. I never put my bettas in a small bowl like what people mostly do.

    I put mine in a 50 gallon tank, first alone with the other fish (guppies) in a net cage. I switched them weekly and then released both, they got along just fine since they had known eachother through the netting. Betta fish also like the feel of hands over nets, safer yes, but calming for the fish if you use your hand. (After washing of course)

    I was getting my betta used to the my tank, sitting in its cup while submerged in my aquarium I have a platy and Molly . The Molly started nipping at his cup and the betta put his gills up and just focused on the Molly as it kept nipping around the cup. Is this something to be concerned about ? Should I not put my betta in the tank ?

    • @bug1347
      @bug1347 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Eric Ngo if you give the shrimp a lot of hiding spots and plants, most of them should be fine. Just get more than one or two shrimp because there's still the risk of the betta eating them and you don't want to constantly be buying more.

    • @ericngo2897
      @ericngo2897 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Either way, it's not a good idea, Bettas are omnivores so you shouldn't keep it with shrimp, eventually they'll all be eaten, but up to him

    You can also put fresh water snails in your aquarium to help with cleaning. I have 2 male bettas and they love their snails. I was a little concerned about the size of the snails but my smallest betta is tanked with the largest snail and my largest betta is with the smallest snail. No one has killed each other so from experience, they do well with each other.

    • @dimitris.4484

      You need to do an experiment before you add the fish. Place it in a fishbag on the comunity aquarium and see its behaviors if it flairs or looks agressive dont do it. Some bettas are pretty violend and tearing apart anything.But the best of all is to live it alone in a big enough tank, it will not feel lonely or scared this fish loves loneliness.

    Are the seashells real ? This is not very good for your water quality (it can rise your KH) Also, be careful with fake plants, it can tear your betta's fins. What about joining a forum instead of waiting for people to comment under your video ? I know you want to have comments, but still... The plastic bottle baffle really helps slowing down with the strong current . Bettas don't like strong current. I did the same with my 20 gallon tank and it's been almost 2 yrs now, works perfectly. Just make sure you have no sharp edges around your baffle, trim off the corners ,so they are rounded corners.
    You don't want ur beautiful betta to rip his tail on any sharp edges. My betta is in a community tank with 10 neon tetras and 7 cherry barbs, heavily planted with live plants and a piece of driftwood wood. All of them get along fine, it's been over 2 yrs now. Yes, definitely get a lid for your tank, bettas are jumpers. Love ur video, and your enthusiasm for fish keeping!

      The tank needs to be bigger for a female beta to live as a community. Courtship can be aggressive between the two so a less crowded area lessens the stress because they can be apart. Also, betas like to sleep in plants near the surface. The main fish you can't keep with them are other labyrinth organ fish. Great that you're challenging the myths though!
