  • This video demonstrates how to install a backup camera into a Mustang. The Mustang in the video is a S197 model. However the principals of the install are the same on about any car. Install camera, get the cable to the inside of the car, hook up power and run the video up to the head unit.
    If you would like the install kit that I used in the video you can find it here: amzn.to/2ZcwzzY
    If you want to take a look at the full radio install instructions for this car you can check out the link here:

      @@Rythecarguy yes it’s great I actually installed it yesterday. The only thing you didn’t show is that the red wire thats on the opposite sides of the yellow connectors that go to the camera and to the double din must be connected.. one on the reverse power wire from the reverse lights and one to the double din. Without this the camera won’t engage and disengage on the screen by itself. Other than that I would have been completely lost without your video, thank you again

    Very nice video and great audio quality. I'm putting a backup camera in my 2011 Mustang convertible. Fortunately the Boss radio unit and the Metra adapter for the 2011 Mustang includes a circuit that connects to the cars reverse sensing circuit, so the camera will appear when the car is put in reverse. If your car doesn't have the reverse sensensing circuit as part of the factory wiring then the red wire that runs with the video cable should be hooked up to the backup camera sensing wire on the radio so it will automatically come on when the reverse lights are energized. Hey, where are your shoes? My feet would be bleeding if I ever tried working around cars with no shoes.

    • @hithereperson8137

      @@hithereperson8137 Glad I could help. One other thing that may help some others putting a backup camera in a S197. Since I was installing a whole new HVAC controller and radio system with the Metra interface and a Boss touchscreen head unit in my 2011 convertible, I had to remove the center console, which does pop out quite easily. I also was running new USB connections from the console armrest cubby. By removing two bolts in the bottom of the storage cubby it is very easy to run the backup camera wires from the trunk, under the back seat (it pops out easily) and up through the center of the car to the radio/head unit. No need to tuck it in along the door sill-seal and through the kick panel.

    I will be replacing the factory Shaker 500 with a double din. Since the center console will be out, couldn't I just do a reverse hook up and run the wire from the double din under the center console towards the back seat and into the truck area? The only big diff is that I have a 2005 Saleen and the license plate is in a different location than from the factory.

      Ry the car guy I have a 06 gt and I am getting the Alpine Ilx-w650 (which is the same as you both , I assume ..? Idk , I could be wrong , but that’s beside the point of my comment ...) you said , you believed that you had to run the power cable up to the head unit to get the camera to automatically switch on when the shifter was in reverse ...? So was it still needed to clip the “red clip” into the reverse light’s wire/s ? I assume you did that so the cameras power was not running constantly when switched off from taking the shifter out of reverse ..? I am thinking I could skip that step (idk I could be wrong), and just run the power line to the head unit , like you think you May have figured out ..? I very confused , or should I just do everything the same as in the video demo and run the camera power line as you have just figured out as well , thx for sharing and empowering us diy ers , you deserves quite a bit of praise for the all the technical assistance that you give out on TH-cam for free , you are what this world needs more of : people like yourself !!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼🦾🦾🦾🦾🙉

      On your head unit there should be a wire that says "reverse" or "reverse input" something like that. Tie the red wire coming off of your video cable to that wire, plug your video input into the head unit.

    Next time, release the two tabs under the front of the rear seat base and lift it out of the way to run your cable.

    Why couldn’t you just go through the interior of the car. To run the wire

  • @tomspecht6117
    @tomspecht6117 ปีที่แล้ว

    why would you produce a video that is wrong. the camera interrupt is a signal wire to the stereo to tell the radio when the car is in reverse to change modes not to power the camera.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can power the camera using that wire, it's not wrong, it's just not how you would do it. Chill.

      @@Rythecarguy No, the little red wire which he said you could cut IS actually the wire that feeds a power signal back from the reverse light (and the camera power) to the radio. The radio has a reverse INPUT. It's not a power supply for the camera. The little red wire on the camera end has to be connected to the reverse light, along with the power to the camera. Then the little red wire on the radio end has to be connected to the radio.
      This is the only way the radio knows you're in reverse. All radios with a camera video input have a reverse input for this reason.
      The red wire IS not a different way to power the camera. Hook it up, folks.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@judefederspiel7591 listen, I understand what you're saying but it is not the only way a radio knows you're in reverse. I have had plenty of radios where it watches for a video signal and when it find one it switches over. This design renders that red cable useless. Furthermore if you are running a camera that is not a backup camera like a side or front camera you WOULD use that red cable to power the camera. No two ways about it. If your radio requires the 12v signal to switch to camera mode then that's what you use it for. Otherwise, use it for whatever you want.
