  • Just a short ride to see how they feel, and some thoughts on what is next for the Speed Twin. Going to get the forks rebuilt, now that I have the Ohlins shocks fitted.
And this bike is gonna go on track at some point, because... why not?

Nothing quite like adding a quality set of new tires. When I bought my 'new to me' FJR1300, the prior owner had a set of Pirellii Angel GTs on the bike, the rear which had squared off after only 4k miles! Off they went and on went the Dunlop Roadsmart IVs front and rear. Transformative and makes the bike a delight.
    Ride well.

The suspension IS the weak link on the Speed Twin. You are making the right move on the suspension upgrade. For someone with track experience the forks cartridges makes sense. Tec Bike parts also has some adjustable foot pegs if you want some more ergo adjustment. Someone described the Speed Twin vs the Bonneville as a "Hooligan in Tweed".

Yeah, the footpegs are fine for now. Next mod are the forks getting upgraded and dialed in. After that, a quickshifter. I want this thing to look and sound stock to the casual observer, but be a bit of a sleeper up in the mtns... Unless someone knows what to look for, they will just see a middle aged man on a retro cruiser... ;-)

Love the Michelin tires, most new bikes benefit from an upgrade.

@@SquireSCA my 2020 came shod with Pirelli Diablo ROSSI III's
Eventually I would switch to Michelin. Both of my 2012's Bonneville SE and Thruxton came with Metzler LaserTec tires and I switched to Bridgestone on both.

Good review on the 6's, thanks. I had K-tech suspension on both ends on my older model, definitely worth it. This time I'm going Nitron though, just to see the difference.

Good taste in the driveway. Had a nice G6 5.0 tuned for E85, sold it 2 years ago. Now ST, which I’m really digging.

How are you liking these tires now? I just dropped a set of these off with my wheels at a local shopand will be picking them up in the morning.

One of, if not the best all around sporty tire on the market today. Love them.

@Dave's Man Cave Awesome! I'm glad to hear it. Honestly I wasn't a huge fan of the Metzler's that came on the bike coming from the Rosso Corsa II's I ran on my Street Triple. I got double the miles on the Pirelli's and better (in my subjective opinion) performance. I'm excited to try the Road 6's out!

Try switching the TC off, will let the motor go much better.

I see people saying that but I only feel a difference if it wheelies. Otherwise it feels the same to me.

It's hard to beat the Michelin Pilot Power 2ct tires for the price/performance they offer. The Road 6 tires might be better in wet conditions, but for everything else the old school 2cts might be superior.

@@d2nt3 To be fair, most full on sport tires aren't great in colder temps... They struggle to get to their optimal operating temps, so grip can be sketchy. That's where a tire like the Road 5/6 or the Dunlop Roadsmarts really shine.
