Thank you sir! This 70-year-old lady is fixing to remove my junkie disposal :-) this was very simple you didn't tell me about your lifetime history and story. I appreciate that! Excellent video! Thank you and have a blessed day!
This is EXACTLY the video I need. All of the other videos show a disposal swap, not what I want. I've been putting the job off for too long now and it really isn't that difficult. Thank you so much for the simple explanation.
EXACTLY what I was looking for! For quite some time now (put off taking out old broken disposal). Every video I tried had how to "replace with new disposal" but no one did one like this! And complete with dishwasher hookup! EXACTLY what I needed- thank you so MUCH !
@@getitdonehomerepair It's good information. Was your original garbage disposal made of plastic? My old one is made of metal, and super heavy and definitely not something I can put back in, which is why I need to plug it up with something else.
Just came from Home Depot, they didn't have the 1,2,3 how to book. So, when l got home I found your great video. Now this lady can get to work. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!😉
This is exactly what I needed to see. My disposal plates were so full of plumbers putty that I could not see how to take it apart. Everything was metal and I dent the top flange like you did gut I had to bend it all the way around until I could push it thru the sink. Once I had it apart I knocked all the dried up putty off and saw that there was a snap ring holding it together. You saved me a lot of work. Thanks
THANK YOU! My wife and I just purchased a house that has a garbage disposal, and she wants it gone. Very informative and saves us from hiring a plumber!
This is great! I was looking for a perfect video like this one. Thank you for explaining to where this ole girl can understand and kudos also to the camera person. Thank you.
Great video - good detail for everything, down to what tools to use, how to use plumber’s putty, and why you don’t want to use too much. It reminds me of when my dad would have one of us kids (there were 6 of us) helping him do jobs around the house. It made those of us who paid any attention more competent at doing such things when we got our own places to live. We never had a disposal at home, so I didn’t know how to remove one. This is very helpful - thanks!
Thanks for teaching me how to do this simple job. You saved me a few hundred dollars in plumber fees. I am an electrician so plumbing has been my nemesis for years. Glad to know it's not very difficult, just smells really bad and makes a mess. I guess that's better than getting electrocuted.
This was brilliant, thank you sir! Very clear and methodical, easy to follow and great advice along the way. I have a double-sink setup, with the garbage disposal under the '2nd' sink. So I'll need a 90-degree bend to join up with the 'main' sink pipe. Hopefully there are some standard sizes I can purchase for that job.
Thank you +Get It Done Home Repair. I am a new homeowner and have never owned a garbage disposal until now July2024. We live in the mountains/rural California so we have a Septic tank. The home came with a disposal but I read we really should not use it with a Septic tank, besides someone broke glass in it and the disposal does not turn, it only makes a machine sound until it turns off. I am researching how to permanently remove it. I found your video and I have to say I appreciate your Teachings. I am handy, just no experience in garbage disposals. After watching your very through video I believe I can do this myself. I just have to make sure I have a list of parts to buy before I venture off to town, which is 30 minutes to one hour away. You gave a good tip. I found a General Contractor Supply 30 minutes away. I will visit them when I start that project. My plate is full right now. Again Thank you, MountainAngel
Thank you ! Too quote LL, (EXACTLY what I was looking for!) I get the feeling you have done this before. Your Chauffeur, J Bruce, Hollywood North 🇨🇦(Vancouver BC)
I have a question, the DISHWASHER" line where is it coming from, my insinkerator is not connected to a dishwasher line, it's only connected to the big black drain tube.
Nice, this is exactly what I need. My waste disposal is leaking and broken, all the plumber I contacted told me I have to get another disposal or reolace the whole sink, both would cost around 1000$ aud, which is insane.
Great video, only wondering......why did you have a hard time? removing the last piece, taking the risk off damaging the sink, when it’s a lot of easier by removing a clip under neath.
Good question but that will not work because the clip does not come off from the bottom. The only way to get it out was to take off the upper part of the drain assembly.
Thank you for the video they want 500 dollars to remove disposal and set up without it this video will def save me some money very easy to understand thank not question I have is do I have to turn off the water in order to replace it?
Before you buy anything, check your dishwasher hose. There are a few different sizes. Usually you can cut the end of the hose to fit the branch in the tailpiece. My disposal had a 1 inch branch. The hose can be cut down to fit 5/8" and 1/2" branches, but yours may be different. I found tailpieces with branches that measure 1/2", 5/8" and 7/8". Don't buy the wrong part.
Thanks. Good video. I'm a widow. Where is my hubby when I need him? 😢 my dish washer is broken. I can't afford one right now. Is there a cap I could put on the dishwasher pipe? Till I get a new one, So I can use my sink? Time and date: 5/07/23 4:30 pm. Thank you.
6:33 ah yes, brute force. The way I was going to hit this thing before I decided to Google videos. Every damn one of these has a 3 screw mounting system now. It's bs, I don't WANT to know how to uninstall that, it's f**king obvious. THIS however? A fucking puzzle that I'm about to break into pieces lolol!
The flange holding the garbage disposal at the bottom holds a gasket, when you remove it, that clamp comes off, and you can also disassemble the upper part without the need for this shredding job.Installation videos show how that gasket is installed. You have spent a lot of effort in vain.

The job is really not as difficult as you may thing. I'm sure you can do it if you handy.
@@getitdonehomerepair I believe you. I can't wait to try it. Mine is hardwired but I am sure it will still be easy. Thanks!
I'm so glad that my house came with the useless garbage disposal that likes to back up my dishwasher.

Can I get the copper pipe cut to size at the hardware store? I don't have anything to shorten it with. Loved the video! Thanks!
Sorry I don't think that they will cut that pipe. You can buy a hacksaw at your local big box store and cut it yourself.

Could the plaste pipes on Amazon ?
Did you bring the garbage disposer to the metal recycling yard?
Yes
