I am getting ready to do some DIY kitchen stuff. This will be my first project I've done without my amazing dad, I lost him in June. I've watched several instructional videos...I think you're the first one to address the need for a downward slope for the waste pipe coming out of the disposal. Thank you.
Sorry for your loss. I hope he instilled lots of knowledge into you so you can tackle your project with confidence. Glad you found my video helpful. Thanks for watching and good luck with your "kitchen stuff"
One of the best instructional videos ever done. Clear, concise and the video was perfect. Great job sir!

What do you do if the drain in the wall is at the same height as the disposal outlet? Do you have to open the wall and lower the drain?
Yes, unfortunately, there's really no other option. I had to do just that on a house a couple days ago. Older homes with drop in shallow basin sinks caused this issue. Now with undermount sinks with 9" deep basins the wall pipe servicing that old shallow sink just doesn't work any longer. Only option is if you have a cleanout below the wall drain, then you can make the upper one the clean out and the lower one for the drain. I've gotten lucky on a few properties where I was able to make that happen, Unfortunately they are few and far between. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching.
Out of stock. And I can’t find it on Amazon either. Any other links you can dig up?
Must just be in your area because they show in stock here. You can do a Google search for "Oatey
1-1/2 in. Black Slip-Joint Garbage Disposal Kit" and a few other companies sell the drain kit, such as Supply Online, etc. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project.
Not sure if it’s the case with the kitchen cabinet you’re working on, but typically there are a couple screws holding that wooden “post” and can be removed for easier access.
Yeah, cabinets with stiles that are just bolted in are few and far between. The majority of the ones are glued in.. glued and screwed in or are manufactured so they're just part of the face frame that can't be removed. I'm always happy when I see one that will come out with just removing a couple screws, but unfortunately, I only seem to come across those maybe once every two years. They used to be more common, and are still see on older cabinets, but newer ones are just build "better", but not better when you're trying to put a 6'2" man into a 2'6" space. Thanks for watching
I was able to order the white plastic kit from Home Depot and I'm hoping that works. I accidentally pulled the garbage disposal down, now I have to deal with that.😢
Good luck with your project. Drop a comment and let us know how it all goes. Hopefully it's an easy fix for you. i don't have a video on installing a garbage disposal ... yet. but it's on my list.
I am Canadian what you are saying may only be partially true. All the disposal i ever seen is under the sink
I hope they're all under the sink otherwise someone has done some creative drain plumbing. Hahaha. Yeah, disposals, or garburators, as known in Canada, are not as common as here in the US. Some cities in Canada even bant them. I have an extensive Canadian family network in Canada, most who think we're strange for having disposals.. the rest just think I'm strange anyway. Thanks for watching.
Where is the video to set it up the other way
Starting at 24:30 I show the alternative set up. Don't have a comprehensive video on it yet, but it's on my list. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe to help me reach my 2025 goal of 15,000 subscribers. Thank you.
step 1: Get rid of the garbage disposal.
No kidding. If more people would understand NOT to put junk down their drain they'd have a lot less plumbing issues. Unfortunately everyone is under the impression that it's there so they can put anything and everything down the drain and the disposal will take care of it. Thanks for watching
