Oda actually takes time to flush out the characters more. In one piece there are very few true villains and hero's just like in real world. The rest of characters are shades of grey. Also one piece is not luffy the be all and end all of the world like tanjiro in demon slayer or eren in aot. Luffy is a part in this big world. There are characters in one piece that could take the entire straw hat crew with their hands tied. Majority of poeple watches anime are living a normal life and youre saying your friend got ruined by anime... So its more like the person problem than blaming the whole anime genre... As for the solution, time will tell...
