A tremendous learning tool. Great video. Watching in particular how Kobe reads his defender's position and often leads him to take a position where one foot is ahead of another. Kobe moves hard in that direction knowing his defender has to take a long step with his lead foot and no way he can do that fast enough to contest his pull up.
Such an easy watch, didn’t even feel like 30 mins. I noticed he likes to work with his left foot being the pivot foot. He goes left a lot, when he does he takes the negative step backwards then into his 1-2 step. The negative step gives him more speed and sells the drive more which turns the defenders hips so he can rise up. When going right he uses the long step into the 1-2 step. Most of the time he isn’t facing the basket, squares his shoulders when he is in the air and kicks his leg out for balance.
You can see how later in his career, he dominated with pull up jumper alone. That's why the fundamentals are so important in basketball. When combined with athleticism, you have a hell of a basketball player.
If people bothered to look up shooting stats, they'd realize just how good of a midrange shooter Kobe was compared to his peers especially in the playoffs. He had all of the tools and yes, more moves than MJ.
@Jonas Bunokas Isn't that what having someone as your role model and mentor is all about?? Kobe always said he credited everything to MJ so I guess he became a replica of his role model which is perfectly ok...
Battier had to be the most frustrated defender on Bryant. Some of those clips, one could not have defended any better and yet still.. R.I.P to the modern day 🐐
This is why he’s the greatest NBA player in my eyes. He shouldn’t be doing those kinds of things and having those accolades because he looks like an average player but he worked his ass out to outplay everyone.
Going full speed to the right, pulling up on a dime, and squaring in mid air is a very tough shot that very few people players mastered (Kobe was one of the few).
Them guys from to day how deadly the dribble Jumpers are. Especially in the clutch when you shoot them and both the help and you annital defender can't do nothing about it. Unlike when you are on the three point line, where you are always in front of the defence, and can also be trapped. This shot is art. If you have it, the three pointer , and the ability to finish around the rim, then you are unstoppable. Cause that's what Kobe was, unstoppable.
JL-CptAtom Kobe gave up on his team in the 2007 playoffs against the suns and needed Shaquille O’Neal Pau Gasol and Ron Artest and he had a great coach in Phil Jackson while LeBron hasn’t had a great organization. And be realistic if Kobe played today he wouldn’t be able to beat the warriors with kd curry klay and draymond
JL-CptAtom when he got swept there was no chance of winning anyways. LeBron got swept by the spurs with Tim Duncan tony Parker and Manu ginobli and the warriors. And don’t act like Kobe didn’t get swept before
Any time he has a defender face-up, he attacks the front leg to force the defender to retreat. Once he's on his heels, 1-2 dribbles, pull-up, and the ball is already out of his hands by the time the contest comes. Textbook and effective.
when kobe was young, from his rookie year to about 2003, he had this faceup crossover pullup/fake crossover/in and out pull up that he used all the time. you can check game 4 of the 2000 finals or jumpers he shot vs pippen. it always looked forced and too many dribbles, but he usually made it. after those years he improved, with the help of hakeem for footwork, developed more moves in the midrange and the post, and that forced crossover pullup disappeared, and it became what you can see mostly in this collection of pullups, this is already prime midrange kobe. this is when he became a master of midrange. it was fun to watch his improvement in skill, creating space instead of rellying on that faceup crossover pullup during his early years.
He still LED ALL PLAYERS in the 2001 NBA Playoffs in Win Shares, AHEAD OF SHAQ, something no other guard has done in many, many years. 2003 Kobe to me is my favorite Kobe because he was lightning quick, crazy athletic (his athleticism, through hard work, IMPROVED from his 18 year old days to his 23 year old days - Kobe had about a 40 in vert at 23, not quite MJ's 50, or Zion's 45 in, but still SUPER ELITE). 2000 wcf game 7, he OUTSCORED Shaq and OUTREBOUNDED Shaq in the pivotal game of the REAL NBA Finals that year. Kobe >> LeBalco!
This video should be called "Kobe's Krossovers"! But is there anything more pure and beautiful than Kobe's jump shot?! Jordan is still my GOAT but Kobe is on my Mt. Rushmore (along with Magic and Bird).
Honestly he was a better shooter than mj but no doubt mj had better shot selection partly due to kobe facing superior perimeter defence facts... 00s was more sophisticated defence
If you noticed, all his shoots that are followed by series of pump fakes, he kicks his legs to get that edge.. That's weight room y'all. We talking about practice!!! Gets me fired up imma go shoot some hoops now!
Man.... I just discovered your channel but all your compilations are very very helpful.. Please do more of this and cover the underrated and detailed parts of the game You could start with Anthony Davis spin moves
I never noticed how big Kobe got towards the end of his career. It is common for vets to put on muscle when they've lost some speed, but he got ripped toward year 16. Like MJ in 96-98 and Kawhi Leonard now, it let him get to his elbow spots using strength and finesse instead of just the latter, like early career.
Thanks for the love. Appreciate it. I’m quite lazy by nature hence lack of content. I’m in the process of putting together a couple of super compilations. No eta atm

I’m a Kobe fan but watching him pass up open 3s for long 2s remind me of the Game of Zones episodes with Chris Paul and Carmelo lol “But is merely a pump fake” 😂
30 minutes of Kobe mid range pull up jumpers. Talk about basketball heaven!
Blaise the gospel lol
You could make hours of Kobe shooting pull up Js lol
the pinnacle of shot making
These days there are only boring threes
