If you ever find yourself again trying to “first start” another old, long stagnant fuel injected engine, you are better off unhooking the main fuel line at the throttle body or fuel rail before you even turn the key on. Attach the end of the fuel line to a hose and/or run it or the end of the line into a clean plastic soda bottle or jug, then turn the key to the ON position, listen for the electric fuel pump to switch on for a few second then shut itself off (with a open fuel line, it might continue to run, though). If you hear nothing, the pump isn’t working. If it does run, give it a few seconds, shut off the key switch and go see if there is anything in your bottle or jug. There is alway a chance that the fuel injector is still good, so you don’t want to pump stale or contaminated fuel into it. In the case of an old throttle body system, replacing the injector is neither hard nor expensive; but in the case of other EFI systems, you could be clogging up 4,6, or up to 8 injectors which would be more expensive to replace or time consuming to remove, try to clean/replace and reinstall. Not criticizing how you did things here but just giving you something to think about if you are faced with the situation again and it might save you some headaches, time, and cash.
I think the creators consider that the viewers like to see these rust buckets show signs of life, straight from the junkyard. If the money was mine, I would take the time to do the homework first...😀💸
Great video. I enjoy your emphasis on older, less known (by today's standards) vehicles. Fuel pump is in-tank. Throttle body rebuild kits are available as are fuel injectors. Looks like prices are fairly reasonable for these items.
You can check the injector by removing the wiring harness and place a 9v battery on the pin connectors and listen to see if it clicks and if so the injector should be good.
You got it close. The repair manuals like chiltons and hanes have the wrong wiring diagram for the 84. The only real emission stuff on this car is the egr and catalyst converter. Make sure you plug open vacuum lines and the gaskets and base gaskets of the throttle body are good and sealing. Good luck with the fuel pump the tanks are fun to drop.

You could do some proper testing with a multimeter or noid light. It's funny how you're so enthusiastic about all those warning lights and electronic gauges working. To me, anything from the OBD era seems too new to be interesting enough for a will-it-start style video compared to points and carbs, but at least you're out there doing it and making content.
Excellent video CT :) that part ask what in Air Filter Snorkle Breather that part is if have Backfire or TBI on fire it like Fire Extutisher 🔥 put fire out or Fuel Injector to snuff too ! But they weren't not fully work and lots vechiles caught fire also burn to ground! My one Aunt had a car burn to ground and some other people have to I know too! I know lots vechiles after 1994 don't have air breather feature anymore I seen in !
I used to watch this channel a lot.. Please finish something, anything.. Continually starting projects and abandoning them at the moment of substantial progress is kinda getting strange at this point.
Crazy idea.... Would you think a engine like that would fit in one of those Japanese mini trucks ? Probably too much power for a small truck like that. Let me know what you think, ok? Thanks 😎👍🇨🇦
It would be better to use a fuel with a little oil in it. keep spraying carb cleaner or brake cleaner just washes the cylinder walls and valves. Much better to have a little lubricant for the rings
It was a neat idea, just poorly executed like every new thing GM does. We used to call these Ponticrap Fireballs back in the day. Oil would leak onto the exhaust from the valve cover gasket and start a fire. The insulation on the firewall would catch, and then the rest of the car, which is very flammable fiberglass and plastic.
Disappointed in you CT. You said it yourself when the oil looked so clean, “all the sediment is at the bottom”. You should have at least changed the oil & bypassed the fuel tank. Now you’ve put that engine at risk of future failure from the muck getting sucked up and distributed around the engine to plug up oil galleries and cause ring or bearings to fail. You know better. Or was this staged? Either way, I’m disappointed.

So exciting !!!!
Can't wait to see the next video CT.
Thanks man! 😎😎😎
Glad to see you back on Sunday morning
Thanks buddy!😎😎😎
Hi CT. Had one of these in an 86 Buick. The fuel pump is high pressure and you should hear it when you turn the key. Check fuse for pump first.
Very nice. I'm already looking forward to the next👍
They were SUCH FUN cars!
Hopefully I'll get a chance to drive it soon. 😃😃😃

Gotta love 80s cars, and their miles of vacuum lines. There should be a diagram sticker on the underside of the hood.
Yes, I like to remove them if possible. =)

You could always GO AWAY...?
You can fire those injectors with 9 volt transistor battery to test them 😂. Neat car bud
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Good Job ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much! =)
thought you would hook up a remote starter switch and even set up a electric pump to get it running but you have done well cheers
You need a fuel pump, filter and injector and map sensor.. that should make run and idol smooth.
GM made a lot of crappy cars back in the 1980s. But so did Chrysler and well Ford lol.
Crazy idea.... Would you think a engine like that would fit in one of those Japanese mini trucks ?

Watch Ronald Fingers series on restoring an old Fiero - fuel tank on those suck-
The surprising thing about the IRONDUKE engine is nobody has tried to seriously hot rod it.
I luv the 80s. Are you going to open a museum?
That would be cool! =)
You have to be careful with ironduke engine. it can cause a fire if it’s not set up right. This is the rumor around the campfire .

Are you returning to work on the porsche 914 any time soon😊
Yes, I'm looking forward to getting back out to the farm and doing some welding. It's too hot, humid and rainy right now.
Haven't you learned anything yet? you start the engine after 30 years without doing anything to it. well, the engine will be damaged
yes sir👏👏👏
First you got to do bring down tank and put new fuel pump and gas filter next a run up spark plugs and oil cahainged
CT, are you putting in a radio back in the car after you fix it up?
Yes, I like to get one for it and may be fix the a/c as well.
What are you spraying all the time in to the engine bay. Obviously dosent help with starting, so why ?😮
It’s a bitch to bleed the cooling system on those!
disconnect the fuel line from the other end of the filter.....it could be plugged
Good idea!

Try to get an owners manuel and a repair manual.
