- I learned this song by ear. It's a very popular Stephen Foster song that almost everyone in the USA might recognize by ear, in the same way they would "Turkey in the Straw" or "Oh Susanna"
This banjo was made by @kylewood4852. Check him out for some cool banjos and really good music.
"Official" Lyrics:
De Camptown ladies sing dis song, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
De Camptown race-track five miles long, Oh, doo-dah day!
I come down dah wid my hat caved in, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
I go back home wid a pocket full of tin, Oh, doo-dah day!
Gwine to run all night!
Gwine to run all day!
I’ll bet my money on de bob-tail nag,
Somebody bet on de bay.
De long tail filly and de big black hoss, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Dey fly de track and dey both cut across, Oh, doo-dah-day!
De blind hoss sticken in a big mud hole, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Can’t touch bottom wid a ten foot pole, Oh, doo-dah-day!
Gwine to run all night!
Gwine to run all day!
I’ll bet my money on de bob-tail nag,
Somebody bet on de bay.
Old muley cow come on to de track, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
De bob-tail fling her ober his back, Oh, doo-dah-day!
Den fly along like a rail-road car, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
Runnin’ a race wid a shootin’ star, Oh, doo-dah-day!
Gwine to run all night!
Gwine to run all day!
I’ll bet my money on de bob-tail nag,
Somebody bet on de bay.
See dem flyin’ on a ten mile heat, Doo-dah doo-dah!
Round de race track, den repeat, Oh, doo-dah-day!
I win my money on de bob-tail nag, Doo-dah! doo-dah!
I keep my money in an old tow-bag, Oh, doo-dah-day!
Gwine to run all night!
Gwine to run all day!
I’ll bet my money on de bob-tail nag,
Somebody bet on de bay.

The mustache is back! Sounds great as always
Thank you sir
Beautiful man, beautiful song, beautiful banjo, beautiful moustache
back to moustache and banjo roots
Have absolutely no idea where I know this melody from, but glad to hear it again!
Very classic melody. You easily could’ve heard it in a thousand places without realizing it.
Possibly, probably less common in Poland though
We are new to your channel. Very nice. Love this song.
One of my favorite songs! I play this tune on every instrument I know to play! Glad to see you play it ❤❤Much love from France (also very happy to see that moustache again)
Yay, sounds great as always! More Stephen Foster tunes please. And walkthroughs to them, love your style!
Amazing! I'd love to purchase an album of your music. It has a beautiful honest feel to it, and it's very unique. Love it!
Love the Seeger banjo vids
I love your videos because they're more faithful to what those songs would have sounded like originally. Just a man and a banjo. Keep this up! Please!
Wow, thank you!
Hell yeah, Knox! Glad to see that Banjo again and still sounds great 🙌🪕
sweet!!!
banjo king returns all hail
A favorite.
Great version of this great song. Truly a pleasure to hear this morning. I love this song. You perfectly captured the spirit of the song. Kudos.
Beautiful banjo, and as always great playing!
Nice That banjo's a beaut.
I believe that's considered a Banjuke. Slightly different. I own a much smaller version that's like 2 feet in length, given to me by a relative but it needs quite a bit of work before it's playable (It's very old)
It’s a banjo, it has 5 strings. Never played a banjuke before
Amazing music, I think you're pretty underrated. Keep it up man
Thank you Paradox Poster!
that hunk of driftwood is gorgeous! great tunes as always
Don’t tell Kyle Wood you said that!!!!
Hey Knox, became a huge fan of your sound recently. The rendition of “trifling woman” was my intro to it. I’m curious on when you started learning banjo and guitar? A video on your musical journey would be super interesting too. Thanks for the inspiration!
Started learning Banjo in Oct '21. Guitar more recently, since December.
Good one, Knox 🪕🔥
Very good - as always!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely beautiful:)

Awesome dude!!
Sounds awesome dude!
Good as always buddy!
I'm from Pennsylvania, If you remember my old profile picture thats what flag it was. Camptown is near where Im from! :D
Very Neat! As I'm sure you know, Stephen Foster was from PA too!
@@knoxmassey6822 Yes sir!
I know what you are Victorian
I am so happy whenever I see an upload. Would you ever consider putting your renditions to Spotify? Also, what tuning are you using here?
I’d have to get them recorded, so maybe. This one is in standard tuning but down from G
My dad used to sing this to me when i was wee! But he made up nonsense lyrics instead x
To be fair, it seems pretty nonsensical already!
Hey where did you get the “we live in a society” shirt that’s in your profile picture from?
Honestly, I don't remember, as I got it back in 2018 and have since worn it threadbare and thrown it away. I'm sure there is something on Etsy though
Awesome, which banjo tuning for this song?
