For anybody here in 2020 feeling like there's no point in writing an essay, here's what I say as a rebuttal: Writing is amazing. It's hard, it's time-consuming, and it's draining, but it's so worth it when you can look back at what you wrote and say "I did that."
Yes, I agree. I always amaze myself at the cognitive skills that I have when I go through the process of writing a final paper and then read the final paper that I wrote and I say, "Wow! That's awesome!"
What he's trying to say is to continue using Objections (the argument question) and the replies (reply to prove that argument wrong) throughout the entire essay. here's and example of one super short paragraph... -Violent video games produce hatred (Objection) -Well according to some statistics, video games enhance ones ability to socialize with friends. ( reply to the objection) hope that helps :)
From the video I actually inferred in to be the following, which is slightly different to your interpretation: The main arguement would be your own line of argument on a particular topic i.e your stance on if violent video games produce hate (i.e present your hypothesis or thesis statement as the introductory paragraph) . You then strengthen your argument by offering a counter-argument (strongest objection) which could potentially undermine your thesis/ conclusion. Subsequently you then rebut this objection by 'replying' (seek to demolish the counter-argument), again, to add value to your own argument. You continue to systematically do this until you have responded to several (ideally three) objections and arrive at your well-supported and reasoned conclusion which in essence should reiterate your thesis statement (initial line of argument)
I'm an extremely lazy college student and this vid has promptly motivated me to exit out of my downward spiral of procrastination which has consumed me for weeks until this this present moment, this turning point. It is currently 3am. This paper must be done by 1pm. I have 11 hours, I have just finished my third 2 serving can of Monster energy, and I have not started the paper. As soon as I hit post BOOM I'm gonna ride the lightning across this 9 page essay, make it my bitch. Thanks for posting!
Im going to ask my wife for tips she always wins all our arguments, shes an expert on arguments and debate, she and her mom are always practicing their debating skills, sadly i will never get to that level.
When you feed your mind negative thoughts, your mind believes what you are saying. If you say, "I will get to that level." Then your mind gets programmed and starts thinking that you are getting to that level, and you will in fact, get to that level.

I decided to go back to the basics by thinking about how to structure my essays and this was a great help to me.
Well that means you might have phrased it wrong and actually contradicted yourself not convincing the examiner and actually moving sides of the argument. What he meant is rebut your own argument so that you have enough ways to point out that what you're saying is ultimately right and only makes your argumentative essay rather stronger. This is fairly a decent structure.

Back in the day we used to call it research and collect evidence to prove what you are trying to prove. So I can take that approach and weave in an objection and disprove that objection. Looking forward to seeing this essay.

Not a terrible tutorial, there is helpful content here. However, a students focus is to get the damn essay written, turn it the F in, and pass. Writing an argument that later reveals an argument is weak is one thing, but suggesting to start over is the HUGEST waste of time. No no NO

it does a have benefit, surprisingly. it pays off to be able to have a strong rhetoric in order to convince people that you're trustworthy, virtuous and intelligent. you don't have to really be any of those things, but you can persuade people into believing you are with language. but that could just be me projecting my own manipulation tactics into the answer of your question lol

It’s 3 in the morning and I’m studying for the FSA I was supposed to take 10th grade year but corona caused it to be pushed back, now I’m in 11th grade now I have to worry about the FSA on top of everything else. Anyways My “strategy” was to use a weak argument that would be easy to debunk for my opposing paragraph but you called me out. Now I have to rethink it LOL.🤣🤣

I find writing essays to be positive because it can spark up different thoughts and ways of approaching a subject. I know, it's daunting. Knowledge isn't such a bad thing, however. :)
Wonderful! I teach ELLs and the graphic will help them a great deal. However, your rapid speech can be difficult for them to follow. Could you re-do for ELLs and slow down your speech and clarify some higher-level language a little? Thanks again for posting!!
Greg Mat makes it much simpler and says that his format is sufficient to score 6. It’s like you take one of his body paragraphs and make it into 3. The writing is only 30 mins long.

I disagree that you always have to have a reply to the counter argument. Clearly it is better to have a reply, but it is okay to be honest and acknowledge a good counter argument, otherwise people will choose the easiest argument.
