  • Ontarians paid their respects as Const. Marc Hovingh was brought home to rest on Nov. 23.
Community members and first responders showed their respects by saluting the escort group as they travelled from Toronto to Const. Hovingh's home on Manitoulin Island.
The 28-year OPP member was fatally shot on Nov. 19 while responding to a property dispute near Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island.
Const. Hovingh was 52 years old and leaves behind four children and his wife Lianne.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, a spokesman for the OPP, livestreamed the procession on its journey from Toronto to Manitoulin Island.
Watch the video above to see all the people who turned out to salute Const. Hovingh as he made his way back home.

I waited a bit to view this video, as a former member of the RCMP, and it immediately brought me to tears. Rest in peace, brother officer.
As a police officer, your duty is to uphold the law, whether you agree with it or not. How you enforce these rules, as an agent of the government, displays to people, your humanity.

So why do we ignore major policy mistakes that kill police officers? When the Supreme Court decriminalized vagrancy in 1972 and the destitute were no longer housed and fed in jail? Now we neglect them and they freeze and starve. Next the schizophrenics were let out of the asylums and the supports weren't sufficient. These two decisions with no brilliant solutions, made life hell for everyone. Today, the streets are brutal extermination camps for the destitute and the police are expected to address this massive civic negligence. The World Health Organization was shocked at the high percentage of Canadians ignoring traffic laws. They realized our civic neglect wasn't just the traffic laws, it was also our fellow Canadians starving and freezing. During a pandemic, community safety rules are as important to a healthy community as oxygen, friend. Helping the police by fixing what's broken is easy. By why do you hear it from me?

@@brandonelmo5607 Yup, international obligations are hard to understand for the ignorant who attack, and abuse anything they don't bother to read up on. Why do we need so many weapons? Can we eat them? Paranoia stalks the ignorant until they buy guns and shoot police. Canada gave one hundred million to help the women of South Africa for their safety. Rape is so common in South Africa, that we thought it might be smart to help them. Of course you think the devil runs Canada, eh dude? Read the Globe and Mail and get informed instead of paranoid.

Tears streamed down my face as I watched first responders and so many people patiently stand along bridges and roads throughout a number of communities to show their last respects for Officer Marc Hovingh. By all accounts he was a kind and decent man who served his community with compassion and integrity for many years.
There are no words to express the sadness I feel for his family. May you dwell in that peace that passes understanding. And to members of his community and the members of his OPP brother/sisterhood, sincerest condolences.
May his memory be a blessing and May he Rest In Peace. ❤️🇨🇦

Sadly more officers take their life in Ontario than die in the line of duty. It is still sad when It happens especially with cases like this where he was simply responding to a call trying to help someone with a unknown person on their property..
Having said that I think we all know the OPP is not all flowers and roses.
    oppblock.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=522&sid=c8269956f3c4dac0b7b8683901f0e167
We have a serious problem with revenue generation under the guise of public safety thousands of people are getting ticketed for 10km over in Toronto and people defend it.
It is truly a weird relationship we have with our police officers in Ontario.
We have more trust and faith in them than many us states do in their poli d force but at the end of the day their is still a clear us vs them mentality purpotrated by the fact that most of us drive in fear of being ticketed. And jf you don't you are probaly the slow one keeping everyone up
