I remember working swing shift beat 102, 12 now. I get a call of a stalled vehicle blocking, arrived on scene and it’s an elevated freeway with a curve to the left with no shoulder just north of the airport. I got on the PA, the driver followed directions and was able to push the car off the freeway to a gas station. The family lived about 15 minutes away. Told the station attendant they will take care of the car the next day. Gave the family a ride back to their house with all the presents they had to whatever gathering they were going to. I remember the young girl, maybe 10 years old said, “oh, what a clean car, the seats are fuzzy.” I got them back home and the father thanked me. Another save with just a 1125V line 1148X. Best thing was no accident, no paperwork on Christmas Eve.
One time when I was younger I had a dog that was killed my a car and I was far from home so I started walking home, many cars passed me but there was a CHP who stopped and gave me a ride home while driving home he asked me why was I crying then I told him someone ran over my dog. What a beautiful and moving video. As the wife of a policeman, there were many holidays we had to celebrate without Daddy. But he always explained to our boys that it was a privilege and special service to be out there helping others, when they needed it. I know, like myself, our boys were always proud of the sacrifice he gave. He is retired now, but still finds joy in serving others, at church or as a volunteer with the State Wildlife Service. I guess it’s just his nature to give to others. I’m so lucky to have him in my life.

Thank you for a touching video. My father is a retired NYSP. My brother and I are grown. Mom is gone. Dad now resides in Florida during the winter. He turns 90 years old on Christmas eve. Alone. Love him more than anything.
Holidays are hard being law enforcement. Fatal crashes on Christmas, suicides on Thanksgiving. Those memories (flashbacks) hit hard after retirement. Did I do all I could? Did I act fast enough? Questions that have no answers. Be safe my brothers and sisters on the road.
I am the son of the former CHP Officer in Charge of the Truckee substation where the CHP version of this beautiful poem was filmed. We moved to Donner Lake before the freeway was built for the Olympics. Many a Christmas eve or Christmas Day, my father was gone for a wreck on old Donner Summit or some other incident that needed attention. We always knew that our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations would evolve around the emergency calls that came into our phone number (initially our crank phone number was "Truckee 2." The local doctor was Truckee 1.) Thank God for all of the wonderful men and women in blue who protect us and show acts of amazing kindness, while being called names and threatened. May God bless all of you during this holiday season. Thank you so much for this poem and video.
Why does TH-cam only have a like button and not a love button. I too was cutting onions while watching this ZARKA X. To the CHP officers and supporters, have a safe and happy holiday's take care stay safe.
I shared this poem via email with a Nevada State Trooper friend of mine many years ago. I expected him to say he had already seen it. Instead, he replied how touched he was by it and had forwarded it to many others in the agency. He said it got a great response from other troopers. It's good to see the poem was turned into this wonderful video. A big Thank You to troopers and those who protect us everywhere.
Made me cry. Thank god I am still with my retired trooper. There is so much truth in this video. God Bless all our law enforcement present and retired.
"The message behind this video: "never miss an opportunity to extend kindness". So many of the problems of the world could be resolved by abiding by those simple words. Genius, yet touching at the same time.
This was sad for me, jaw dropping, on the edge of my seat as I sit; head cocked intently listening and feeling such sadness that his past Christmas Eve's were so full of sorrows. But when the Trooper appeared, my insides leaped! I immediately knew it was the little girl now grown. So, now the story is bittersweet...eaving lots to ponder about.... life and people...
We were a young newlywed couple on our way home from our honeymoon. My old Chevelle overheated, I think just a bad thermostat. It was late at night and we were far from nowhere. And our rescuer, a deputy, picked us up and took us to a motel. During the night he had arranged a tow to the only repair shop in that tiny wide spot in the road. He picked us up at the motel and took us to get our car, which was finished up a few minutes after we got there. My wife and I still remember the name of the hotel, Bill's Best Western. I forgot the name of repair shop, or the town. It was nearly 50 years ago. We will always remember the kindness shown by that deputy, the motel, the mechanic, to a young nearly broke newlywed couple.
This was absolutely beautiful!! I have always been proud of the CHP. Always. I remember New Year's Eve, 1996. We didn't get a visit, we got a phone call from The Chief Of Police of Tom Bean, TX. 9 members of my family were killed by a drunk driver in an ice storm between Tom Bean and Whitewright, TX. He was so kind and calm and my heart just broke for him, he suffered our loss along with us. When we flew out to Texas, we landed at DFW, rented a van ( all adult children - 5 of us) and drove straight to Tom Bean where the bodies were at the coroners. He was the first one to greet us at the station door and he embraced all of us and that's when we lost it. This man who didn't know us, had never heard of us til the the day before, helped us at the most horrible time of our lives and I will never forget him and his compassion. And now I have to dry my computer off because I have cried all over my keyboard. Merry Christmas to the men & women of the CHP! Be safe!
Been trucking for over 40 years from coast to coast ..... I’m proud to share the road with the men and women of the California highway patrol . Merry Christmas to all of you !!
If I lived in California I would want to join the CHP. Unfortunately i live over in the UK, but this video shows the true family mentality behind all law enforcement agencies across the world. This video made me have even more respect for the men and women who have to give that saddening knock. Knowing and talking to people in the military they say it is one of the hardest things to do and it stays with you forever. So i wish all at the CHP a very merry Christmas. I hope no one has to hear that knock this Christmas time.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful selfless heart. Troopers are secret angels of the most High God. That was a moving video of he that sows kindness will reap the same, Long live California State Patrol!
A tear jerker but good. The kindness of one person cannot be underestimated.....it ripples on as does a rock thrown in the water. We are our brothers keepers.

Every time I watch this I tear up.. I policed for 18 years and hated making notifications. All the terrible things cops see everyday in this country. God bless all of you doing god's work out there.
I spent 30 years as a Police Officer in Connecticut. Although I never delivered bad news on Christmas Night there were others just the same and it was not a pretty sight. I know this pain when misery will strikes so deep in vein. Many will criticize and mock what Police Officers do, but take some time and walk a mile in their shoes. A deep Thanks to Bob Welsh and this beautiful poem he wrote. I have sent this link to many Police Officers and friends so "My Christmas Eve" will live on for many years to come. God Bless and Happy Holidays to all. Peace Mike Clancy Groton Town Police "Retired"
A wonderful reminder of the great things that officers do and mostly without recognition. When I joined in Scotland in the mid sixties I always considered that my main purpose was to help people and if that meant locking up the bad guys then so be it. Like the video the tragedies that I remember most were around Christmas time. I loved my job but not every minute of it.
To all my fellow brothers and sisters out on the beats, be safe this holliday season, remember what is important. Remember why we do it and who we do it for, the deserving innocent, like the little girl in this video. These are the types of things that make all the horribal things not seem so bad. Merry Christmas, Espirit De Corps

As a retired Trooper, this still makes my eyes water! So much we did for the people we served goes unnoticed and rightly so, because those we helped will always know. And that is enough. 🇺🇸🙏
I sit alone Like the trooper, a wife gone home to Jesus, kids are all grown and on their own, by Gods grace doing ok. I await to do the scripture reading at my granddaughters wedding and look back at a life well lived. Hoping for a few more years to bless others and be blessed by those like our trooper, police, military, and others that serve. Oh, did I mention the wedding is of two wonderful young people who attended West Point, are new officers and will be on their way to serve our country that needs more love than we can give. This is a heartbreaking story, it reminds me why we are out there. I had the honor to ride along with the CHP, their officers truly make a difference. To all fellow officers and first responders stay save and merry christmas
The video showed a diner in Truckee, CA. I grew up near Truckee at Lake Tahoe. I knew a wonderful CHP officer by the name of Paul Whitting. He was a good man and a great influence on me. I thank you for the poem and the wonderful, powerful video. Go CHP! May your entire department have a great 2019.
CHP was my 2nd home. I miss this Dept. The high standards. the family connection and most of all the dedication it has to the public. Having retired as a dispatcher to becoming an expert examiner (which I miss), you understand all aspects of the dept. From being the one who answers that suicide caller, car accident or Officer needs help. Two brothers, ( one killed in the line of duty) nephew, ex-husband, ex-son-in-law, and many friends. We all worked the holidays, rarely had it off. Our family never had it off at the same time. We accepted it with pride. We would get the report of Santa on his route. Potluck and cookies. Other Depts wishing each other a Merry Christmas. Job well done on this video. Kleenex in one hand, the other shaking hand holding my coffee cup! Brings back so many memories. Being a first responder is a noble profession. Not for attention or accolades but for something bigger than oneself. Yes, kindness will touch a life in ways that you may never know. Your outcome may not be like this video......do it anyway and do it often.....
Absolutely beautiful video. My father is a retired trooper (NJSP) and I remember all the Christmas nights when he wasnt home. He always told me it's not about the badge, the gun, or the car, it's about changing someone's life, even if it's the smallest thing. This is what being a cop is all about. The chance to give back anything you can. To all my fellow firefighters, dispatchers, troopers, medics, merry Christmas and happy new year.
I don’t live in CA but this is powerful. Really shows what police work is really about. Not arresting, shooting, and tazing. Not killing, causing panic, or ruining lives. Not cutting families in half, hurting innocent people, and making life more difficult for others. Police work is about helping others, it’s about protecting the public, it’s about being caring. To be an officer truly is to serve and to protect. God bless all of you at the CHP.
I was born in Los Angeles in the early 50's. The CHP has done a superb job keeping our communities safe while holding themselves to the highest ethical standards. God Bless the CHP and all LEO's.
Thank you for spreading this across our Country! This goes to show our Law Enforcement isn't always abusive, rude or mean. We need change from those videos and to these. These are the videos our communities need to see, thank you CHP!
Not only "isn't always abusive, rude or mean," but rarely. Great story and video that so well represents the dedication and heart of those who so often risk their own lives to protect and serve others. Thanks for a beautiful Christmas Eve story!
I had to go to a residence on Christmas morning about 1 am to inform a father that his son had died in a car accident earlier on Christmas eve. I'll never forget how he fell to his knees when told of his loss.
I feel you. I was giving a motorcyclist cpr one night. I was at absolutel muscle fatigue by the time fire got there. As I laid in the grass for a few moments, his mother came up to me "are you the one who tried to save my sons life?". I stood, crushed by her words. She embraced me, in tears and said "Thank you". I'll never forget that night.
This get me every time I watch it. Had the pleasure of hearing it done Mr Welch himself and this video is a beautiful rendition of it. Well done CHP from a fellow Trooper.
Scaaty Lobo thank you for your civil services to the people of this great nation. The ability to help one another is becoming a scarcely sought trait among today’s public!
This is the second time I've watched this and it's brought me happiness and a good feeling. I'm a volunteer fireman in the little town of Lisburn PA and I've always tried to be the best person I could be to anyone I've come across. I hope others do the same on Christmas or on any night or day.
We give to help our hearts in the process of helping others. Most often we never know the outcome of the good we do,, but must trust that it will multiply as we set an example for others as we look for the next opportunity. There always seems to be a way to give, to share our hearts in the expression of gratitude that we can. Thank you to all who serve in the CHP, other law enforcement, military and fire fighters, person to person or in large disaster relief.
What a moving presentation, and too many people refuse to see and understand what law enforcement officers have to bear when they work their jobs and come into contact with the devastation and sadness from time to time. A very poignant reminder to us all.
Thank you to all the first responders, our service men and women and everyone else for keeping our communities and families safe! There is not enough respect for what you all do! I hope you all have very happy holidays, make it home to your families safe and enjoy all the fruits of your labors keeping us safe and free! Again thank you is not enough but thank you! Keep doing what you do, including making touching videos like this!

A good testament to your husband. You are blessed indeed.
AND BLM ANTIFA AND DEMORATS HATE THE POLICE. THERE ALL SICK VILE PEOPLE WE NEED THE POLICE. I PRAY FOR THE POLICE EVERYDAY. GOD BLESS THE POLICE ANDALL POLICE TROOPERS. AMEN.
That was so beautifully done. Honestly brought tears to my eyes ❤️
Do you realize what’s in your last name / surname
Thank you for such a beautiful story. Yes it bought tears to my eyes. 😇🙏
Omg 😯 de dat mad my in ters
& there are still idiots that want to "de-fund" the police!!!
Thank god i wasn’t the only one 🥲
Thank you for a touching video. My father is a retired NYSP. My brother and I are grown. Mom is gone. Dad now resides in Florida during the winter. He turns 90 years old on Christmas eve. Alone. Love him more than anything.
Who is cutting onions T-T
Yeah same here. Never see it coming until it's TOO late!
You come from oceans server..
Me
Someone cut the cheese !!!
Thank You for Your Service Brother, God Bless You and Your Family Always
What a tear jerker CHP. I'm not crying, you're crying. Thank you for all you do to keep us safe !
SEMPER-FI to the CHP
From one officer to another thank you brothers we need more like him
These are the life experiences of some of our often unsung heroes who we should always include in our prayers!
Amen Hunter...It's too bad media tend to concentrate on the very few who create issues for the masses of awesome police officers out there...
I agree 100%... there should be a Love button.
Amazing video, thank you guys for your service. Merry christmas.
God Bless
Touched my soul! 🤗
We must all remember how an act of kindness can change a life forever!
As a retired police officer I remember doing these exact same things. It was the most rewarding career helping the community that I love.
I have watched this video every Christmas Eve since it was published.
Great job on the video CHP. Stay safe out there this holiday season and watch your 6. Blue love from an Ohio Brother in Blue
Thanks brother, you be safe as well. God bless.
Quit damaging my flag!
Thank you for your service Mike and please stay safe. ❤
A tear jerker but good. The kindness of one person cannot be underestimated.....it ripples on as does a rock thrown in the water. We are our brothers keepers.
Amazing! My dream is to become a CHP Trooper. This is truly amazing!
@Thecarkid 11 thank you so much man! I really appreciate that!
@@dagomz Correction, Trooper
@@dagomz Actually there Trooper's
I'd love to become a CHP Trooper, but I'm from Italy
One day you'll be living your dream! bro keep it dreaming
Retired after 30 years. Many Christmas and Christmas Eves (And most New Years Eves) I was on duty. Sadly the tragic sights will always be with me and all of first responders who served. God Bless every one of you and never let the few who call us racists and many other bad names cause you grief. We know what we did was good and honorable!
I always return this every Christmas Eve, Merry Christmas 2020 to all who read this
I just discovered Bob Welsh's poem a few days ago & fell in love with it instantly. Thank you for this superb adaptation! May God protect, guard & guide all those in law enforcement. Thank you for your selfless service.
I almost turned this off thinking this was going to be too depressing ..However, it immediately turned into the most spiritual Christmas message ever!!! Thankyou for this sharing. Liz
Every time I watch this video I get the chills, thank you from Finland.
I will become CHP and protect California this video is what being a cop is a about thank you for your service I hope to be the next generation
Every time I watch this I tear up.. I policed for 18 years and hated making notifications. All the terrible things cops see everyday in this country. God bless all of you doing god's work out there.
We need more of these “reality videos” at this time! More than ever!
Came back to this video to push the YT algorithm and bump this up!
That's incredible let's take a moment to thank our first responders God bless them. I couldn't have been the only one cutting onions over here
A wonderful reminder of the great things that officers do and mostly without recognition.
I always pray a hedge of protection around All LEOs everywhere to be safe, secure and alive as they go to work patrolling the neighborhoods they are assigned to ... Thank You is never enough to say
@@poohbearmom64 A simple thank you means more to us than you know. God bless and Merry Christmas.
Thank you so very much for protecting and serving. I hate to imagine what life would be without the men/women in blue. Stay safe and Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
Merry Christmas

@@485chase Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 🎄 🎆 May you have a safe and prosperous 2020.
As a retired Trooper, this still makes my eyes water! So much we did for the people we served goes unnoticed and rightly so, because those we helped will always know. And that is enough. 🇺🇸🙏
Amazing stories, very well done (on a side-note, I really like how classic vehicles are used from the era when these stories took place)
Yeah I noticed that too! Seeing a CHP Mustang in action brought back some memories from childhood.
Casper's Cave i saw it in the thumbnail and the whole thing was too good not to click. i wasn’t disappointed in the least.
Exceptionally well done!
But would a mustang be working that high elevation?
@@scottystiffchicken it could, just probably wouldn't be as powerful that high up compared to being at sea level
God Bless America. Old Navy John
It’s so good when you finish the video and whisper to yourself how much that meant to you and struggle not to cry
God bless🙏🏻🕊and Merry Christmas🎄🌟and THANK YOU🫂💙
Thank you for spreading this across our Country!
Memorized this whole thing for a speech class. Got me 50/50👊💯
I had to go to a residence on Christmas morning about 1 am to inform a father that his son had died in a car accident earlier on Christmas eve.
This is a beautiful story. I want to thank all state troopers in every state that do their job so well and also with compassion.
This get me every time I watch it. Had the pleasure of hearing it done Mr Welch himself and this video is a beautiful rendition of it.
Well done CHP from a fellow Trooper.
God Bless all my brothers and sisters in Emergency Services.... from an old Firefighter / EMT who became an ED doc....
Thank you to every officer protecting the streets while everyone else gets to stay home and celebrate their Christmas with their families
It’s always worth it. Always. I knew the story was her before he even went to the door.
THANK YOU, for the tears and memorys.
Wore the badge for 26 years,STILL miss the great chances to help.
Scaaty Lobo thank you for your civil services to the people of this great nation. The ability to help one another is becoming a scarcely sought trait among today’s public!
Awesome and amazing. Thank you and your families for your service to our State. ❤❤🙏🙏🚔🚔
Lovely and touching. Everyone in law enforcement understands this and has done kind deeds like this. God's blessings to all who serve.
This is the second time I've watched this and it's brought me happiness and a good feeling. I'm a volunteer fireman in the little town of Lisburn PA and I've always tried to be the best person I could be to anyone I've come across. I hope others do the same on Christmas or on any night or day.
I salute this hero, and all of the other fine people who wear a badge, or a white coat, very moving story, very moving.
God Bless (ret.) Officer B. Welsh - CHP 6520.
This was beautifully & thoughtfully written, sir. Thank you so much for your service and dedication.
So sweet....god bless our men in blue..they do so much we never see or hear about.
A beautiful example of importance of our first responders! Many thanks and will pass it on to others.
What a great story. I have a retired CHP friend who I met over 40 years ago. He used to come to my parent's restaurant to eat, and sometimes wrote reports. In time, he became a friend of my family and over the years, became a second Dad to me. He and his wife are my CHP Parents. This video reminds me how much I love them both. God Bless the entire CHP organization.
Best video ever, i cried of this.
He maybe broke one of the Law Enforcement Laws, but he saved a childs life.
Sue McKay looks to be a friendly woman.
I think she has alot of friends via the CHP. All the troopers around the US, both PD, SO and HP should be get Respect and Love from families that they've helped.
God Bless every Trooper that Have died and is still alive.
Long Live our Troopers!
From: Officer Alex
To: Everyone out there, especially the troopers!
Wow, Retired State Trooper, Bob Welsh, you definitely were the Angel Sue McKay & her Mom, needed that cold winter's night. God bless you for the difference you made in some many lives. Merry Christmas & God Bless you & your family.
That was a tear jerk time for sure. Praise God I have been drug and alcohol free for over 50 years and that is how I carry the message of compassion and love
God bless our "troopers". Our SOLDIERS, (all our "GI's") Our POLICE, Our Fire Fighters, and all our first responders. Merry Christmas!!
To all Veterans, Law Enforcement agencies who are away from home defending our great nation, and to the City, County, and State Troopers, God bless you brother and sisters for your sacrifices that you make to help keep our Country, and our Cities,, County, and State safe. Be safe
What FANTASTIC video!!! This should be played on all TV channels. 72 year old tears on this old mans face. Everybody, please obey and respect our law enforcement people.
God bless the California Highway Patrol, thank you for your service o7.
You damned! You made me cry from start to end and even harder with Sue Mckay!
Why did this beautiful video get recommended to me so late after Christmas. God, I'm in tears with the beauty of the story telling. Hopefully one day I'll have the qualifications and the courage to put my name in for tribal police and serve my people on our reserves. God bless the brave men and women of law enforcement.
