I love Holst Garn Super Soft. I buy the 500 gram cones of the background color and fill in the CC with the small cakes. Once I followed the instructions and washed the finished sweater in hot water and soap, it became soft yet didn't pill.
Does anyone know how to get the knitting book Sanders Garn in the US? I'd really like the book. I think I can get the yarn or an equivocal US yarn here.
Drops is currently my absolute favourite among yarn manufacturers for several reasons: they have a gorgeous range of yarns that serve different purposes (I knit a lot for dogs, so for them I need a sturdier yarn like Drops Alaska, but then if I want to make something non scratchy and airy for myself, I go for the Drops Air and it's just pure bliss); all of the yarns I've tried are high quality (are there better out there? yes, but Drops is still very high quality); the pricing is super affordable and not the least - they are available where I live which I can't say about most of the yarn brands other than drops. And also, Drops pattern library is a very nice inspiration dive!
Would love to know how you find Drops Air in terms of longevity! I'm obsessed with the colors and want to make a sweater, but worry it will stretch or wear out easily.
Filcolana is my all time favorite yarn brand. Here in Denmark their prices are quite affordable considering the quality. Especially arwetta (their merino sock yarn) and their Peruvian highland wool is a favorite of mine, and their silk mohair, tilia, while on the pricy side, is the softest mohair I’ve ever felt. Also, their colour range is AMAZING

Ooh yes I’ve tried some of the adlibris yarns and I’ve also found some of them to be so nice quality (not maybe all the colours equally appealing but some really good ones) And yes I agree about the Zara quality, it’s like after one wash the whole garment loses its shape 🧐

I am a very new knitter thanks to your video series! Hehe I have not used many yarns just yet, but I really like the ones I have used which are the Rowan Alpaca Classic which I have used for the scrunchies, and Malabrigo Rasta Super Bulky which I used for the marshmallow hat. My favorite yarn brand is Malabrigo yarn - the yarns are hand-dyed, wonderful brilliant colors, very high quality Merino wool ... and they take good care of their flocks - no mulesing, "old fashioned" farming - the sheep are running free watched by Sheppards and their dogs.

Fair warning about Drops Double Sunday - I have one of those weird sensitive scalps. Basically if someone ruffles my hair, my scalp aches. A lot of hats made it ache too. I knitted a beanie/pipo with Double Sunday at the crown and it grabbed onto my hair with its little scales and pulled it slightly and made my scalp hurt. I'm guessing this is because the yarn still had all its little scales as it was 100% wool non superwash? I was also knitting with klompelompe spøt which was much kinder to my poor sensitive head. Anyway. I swapped beanies with my fiancee so she had the one with Double Sunday at the crown and I had the one with Klompelompe spøt at the crown. I really liked knitting with Double Sunday and I would absolutely do it again for a jumper, but never again for a hat. We don't have Drops in Australia, and we don't really have Cascade much either, and I only encountered Sandnes Garn in Finland, but that's one of the fun things of travelling, encountering different yarns from all around the world! (Yes you can order online but it's not the same experience as buying yarn in person.) As for my favourite yarns? For basic yarns: I really like Shine Sport from Knitpicks, which is a great cotton/modal summer yarn in a great range of colours that knits very easily, unlike a lot of cotton yarns which are horribly stiff on the needles. For a basic Australian yarn I really like Patons Bluebell Crepe. Tremendously reliable, and affordable, doesn't pill or do anything weird. For really great affordable sock yarns I recommend Nundle Mills sock yarns, which come in 50 gram balls in beautiful colours. I have also been very happy with Regia and Schoppel wolle sock yarns (nb these are 4 ply sock yarns not the big chunky Finnish style ones.) Bellevue Park Wool is very affordable, the balls are like 270 metres of yarn, beautiful colours, wonderful to knit with. I did enjoy working with Koigu KPM. And then I do also enjoy madelinetosh and malabrigo but who doesn't.
I haven't tried any of these yarns, but I have discovered a whole lot of new brands from this video! Melody from Drops seems very interesting and will probably determine my next project! Thank you so much for sharing this video 😁

All of our local yarn shops closed when Corona came to town, so sad, Sadness garn is also very nice and affordable and easy to order online from Wool and Company
All beautiful yarns! Though, as an indie dyer, I was kind of bummed you don't use very much hand dyed. Obviously, I'm a bit biased, lol. I'm reading through the cinnamon twist pattern to prepare to knit, I think I have time to finish one for my daughter for a holiday gift. You don't specify which kind of increase you use, do you have a preference? Different increase methods "lean" different directions and some are not as noticeable in the fabric pattern.

So glad to hear you’re thinking about making the cinnamon twist cardi. About the increases, I prefer to increase by knitting the strand between two stitches. In the cinnamon twist pattern you just want to make them as invisble as possible as their not really part of the ”design”, so I used a right leaning increase where I picked up the strand between two stswith left needle from back to front, and then knitted it through front loop with the right needle. Hope this helps 😀

Great video. I've just starting knitting with Sadnes Garn and Knitting for Olive. Both are wonderful. I would like to try Drops but it is difficult to buy in the US. I live in Florida in the winter so would be interested in what yarns you use for summer knits. I just purchased some Knitting for Olive merino cotton for a summer tee. I can't wait to start; it is so soft and smooth.
Hello hello, here in Brazil almost all yarns are acrylic, or a mix of acrylic with other unnatural materials, here it is very very difficult to find yarns by wool. In October I am going to visit Finland and I want to buy new yarn :)

I’ve always loved a nice acrylic because it’s cheap & I do have some nice soft favorites but I’ve been wanting to try some natural fibers pretty bad they look amazing, I’m a crocheter!
When you talk about projects where you are using two strands of yarn together, are you actually using 16 rather than 8 skeins? Or if you are looking at a pattern that calls for (for example: sport weight ) one yarn but you want to use two different strands do you have any tips?
Please remember, if natural yarns are cheap, you need to question: the husbandry of the animals and how the fibres are collected. Yarn farming is big business now and their practices are not always good for the animals.
Please tell me how to care for homemade knit projects! I’ve been scared to make things like sweaters and socks because I don’t know how to wash them properly! Help!

Thank you for this video. I’m a relatively new knitter and am trying out several different patterns and techniques right now to see what works for me in terms of fit, style, and material (especially as I live in an area of the US that is pretty warm the majority of the year), so I’ve been using more inexpensive blends. Kroy Paton sock yarn, Lion’s Brand Wool Ease, and various cotton types make up my current stash. Good thing too because I already have a couple of Frankensocks as a result of learning how to knit socks and various heel styles. 😂 But as I learn the process of how to knit socks and garments, I do want to transition to yarns that will produce a more polished finished item, hence my search for yarn reviews. I especially liked how you showed the two yarns in the same project and the difference between the stitch definition and wear. That was particularly enlightening.

Hmm it’s very fluffy yes but I think it would work well for a child’s poncho. Or, for a ”heavier” and more dense texture I love Drops Nepal and Brushed Alapca Silk together, also totally non itchy ☺️

My favorite have been drops alpaca, but I bought Sandnes alpakka silke yarn recently and it’s just wonderful to knit with 😊 Also super excited to knit with drops sky! So soft and light, and thick compared to the thin yarns I usually knit with.
I really appreciate your reviews and especially comparing price points. Would you consider doing a review of all the mohair/silk, suri/silk yarns that are available now? The brilliant knitter/designer who first recommended combining one wool strand with one mohair/silk should be given a lifetime achievement award from the mohair marketing board! I love Drops and their pattern and technical support is unsurpassed. What is your opinion of Holst garn? Am considering getting a couple of cones of super soft. In your travels, if you come across Wagtail Yarns [Australia based] I highly recommend their 50/50 merino/mohair. The colors are amazing jewels. And the fabric is beautiful. Finally, is there a discontinued yarn that you wish someone would bring back? BTW, I have enough Cascade 220 to knit 70 sweaters. Heavily cabled ones. Big fan too of Berroco Ultra Alpaca (50/50). And a big fan of yours too!💜🧶💜
I agree that using very fuzzy yarns can be a bit tricker to use if you’re new to knitting as it’s harder to unravel. But the really chunky and thick wool yarns are really goos to use as a beginner 👍🏼
I really like drops brushed alpakka silk (at a tighter guage) knitted Double 20st/10 cm gives a nice fabric, single 30st/10 cm is really nice. I see you are into the soft fluffy stuff, which I also like. But i have also have a love for rustic wool yarns, (to wear over thin cotton sweathers) like Peer Gynt from Sandnes yarns, it gives a sturdy everlasting garment. Another Norwegian wool that I loooove is Finull by Rauma. This wool yarn gives light and warm garments. The pelt wool from Hillesvåg is also wonderful.

I have only been knitting since hurricane Harvey 😂. That’s how I remember how love long… so 5 years or so. The only local places I have to purchase yarn are Walmart and Hobby Lobby, so basically no choices and have been cautious from purchasing online. Thank you for this video. First of all, I love your content, you have a great personality and you are an inspiration. I've been knitting for about three years and I'm still learning a lot. I also knitted the Sunday Brunch Sweater with drops and actually find it too itchy for me. I can't wear it on bare skin, and I always have to pull something under it. I'm apparently extra sensitive. But it was still a great project.
Arriving a bit late but if I can give some advice to everyone wearing sweaters made of natural fibers and especially to those who (like me) are extreeeemely sensitive to itchy wools: wear a cotton (or other material) t-shirt under your sweater. That way it won't be in direct contact with your skin. Double advantage: it won't itch, and you won't need to clean the sweater itself often, thus it will last longer! ^^ Also, remember that polyamide and so on is plastic, it is extremely detrimental to the environment!! And that cheap natural yarns often mean that animals are ill-treated, so better pay more and buy less but to people who respect animals' well-being!!
Thank you. I'd love to know the colours of all your yarns and to see them displayed in the light and, where possible, in a finished garment. Choosing them online can be difficult and it's super expensive to get the colour wrong when buying yarn from Europe to be sent to NZ. :) You seem to have a great colour range, so it would be useful to know what each colour is called.
I have just found your channel and was watching your video on how long it takes to knit a sweater….as I knitted a colourwork sweater with Drops Air. My next sweater will be knit with Drops Wish. Sadly it is hard to get Sandes Garn in Tasmania.
I love Drops yarns and have used them a lot, but was very disappointed by Nepal. :( I knit a cardigan and within a week it was absolutely covered in pills. I am currently knitting in Drops Alpaca since I need thinner sweaters here in Southern Europe.
Your grandmother's sweater is stunning! It looks like something from the 60s or 70s. Do you ever use cashmere? It seems to have such brilliant and unique colours. Is that just due to tradition, or does it have something to do with the way the wool holds the dye?
I love to knit with natural fibres too. Australian Merino either 100% or mixed with Alpaca or synthetics for sock knitting for the hardwearing longevity. Alpaca is so soft to knit with and I love wearing it against my skin but it doesn't keep memory or shape well so it is often better in a mix or if it is 100% I love knitting cowls with it because they're generally not being stretched as you wear them. I also love to work with cotton. Cotton also doesn't have memory however for summery tops and smaller projects cotton is lovely to work with. Bendigo Woollen Mills in Victoria, Australia have awesome cotton yarns in various weights from fingering to Aran. Possum is also a very soft fibre to knit with. It is often found in Australian and New Zealand yarns as a yarn mix. I'm not as keen on wearing or knitting with mohair, cashmere or similar yarns because I find those whispering fluffy bits irritating on my skin, which makes me interested in Drops Wish yarn thank you for sharing I haven't heard of the Wish yarn before. You have some gorgeous knits and yarns so wonderful to see different yarns people work with and patterns. Great episode thank you!

With a lifetime of knitting and spinning, I have accumulated a lot of wool. I ‘shop’ my stash now before buying more fiber and yarn. That would be my tip to share. Love your videos.
The Yarns are a new experience in the natural fibres. Acrilic had been fun and versatile. Now I feel I can try checking out some of those you mentioned and reviewed. I might try Alpaca, Angoras and Yak too.

My favourite is West Yorkshire Spinners. Very reasonable, decent quality, good colour range, 100% British wool.

Ooh yes I’ve tried some of the adlibris yarns and I’ve also found some of them to be so nice quality (not maybe all the colours equally appealing but some really good ones) And yes I agree about the Zara quality, it’s like after one wash the whole garment loses its shape 🧐

Hehe I have not used many yarns just yet, but I really like the ones I have used which are the Rowan Alpaca Classic which I have used for the scrunchies, and Malabrigo Rasta Super Bulky which I used for the marshmallow hat. My favorite yarn brand is Malabrigo yarn - the yarns are hand-dyed, wonderful brilliant colors, very high quality Merino wool ... and they take good care of their flocks - no mulesing, "old fashioned" farming - the sheep are running free watched by Sheppards and their dogs.

Fair warning about Drops Double Sunday - I have one of those weird sensitive scalps. Basically if someone ruffles my hair, my scalp aches. A lot of hats made it ache too. I knitted a beanie/pipo with Double Sunday at the crown and it grabbed onto my hair with its little scales and pulled it slightly and made my scalp hurt. I'm guessing this is because the yarn still had all its little scales as it was 100% wool non superwash? I was also knitting with klompelompe spøt which was much kinder to my poor sensitive head. Anyway. I swapped beanies with my fiancee so she had the one with Double Sunday at the crown and I had the one with Klompelompe spøt at the crown. I really liked knitting with Double Sunday and I would absolutely do it again for a jumper, but never again for a hat.
We don't have Drops in Australia, and we don't really have Cascade much either, and I only encountered Sandnes Garn in Finland, but that's one of the fun things of travelling, encountering different yarns from all around the world! (Yes you can order online but it's not the same experience as buying yarn in person.)
As for my favourite yarns? For basic yarns: I really like Shine Sport from Knitpicks, which is a great cotton/modal summer yarn in a great range of colours that knits very easily, unlike a lot of cotton yarns which are horribly stiff on the needles. For a basic Australian yarn I really like Patons Bluebell Crepe. Tremendously reliable, and affordable, doesn't pill or do anything weird. For really great affordable sock yarns I recommend Nundle Mills sock yarns, which come in 50 gram balls in beautiful colours. I have also been very happy with Regia and Schoppel wolle sock yarns (nb these are 4 ply sock yarns not the big chunky Finnish style ones.) Bellevue Park Wool is very affordable, the balls are like 270 metres of yarn, beautiful colours, wonderful to knit with. I did enjoy working with Koigu KPM. And then I do also enjoy madelinetosh and malabrigo but who doesn't.
I haven't tried any of these yarns, but I have discovered a whole lot of new brands from this video! Melody from Drops seems very interesting and will probably determine my next project! Thank you so much for sharing this video 😁

I'm reading through the cinnamon twist pattern to prepare to knit, I think I have time to finish one for my daughter for a holiday gift. You don't specify which kind of increase you use, do you have a preference? Different increase methods "lean" different directions and some are not as noticeable in the fabric pattern.

So glad to hear you’re thinking about making the cinnamon twist cardi. About the increases, I prefer to increase by knitting the strand between two stitches. In the cinnamon twist pattern you just want to make them as invisble as possible as their not really part of the ”design”, so I used a right leaning increase where I picked up the strand between two stswith left needle from back to front, and then knitted it through front loop with the right needle.

Hello hello, here in Brazil almost all yarns are acrylic, or a mix of acrylic with other unnatural materials, here it is very very difficult to find yarns by wool. In October I am going to visit Finland and I want to buy new yarn :)

I’ve always loved a nice acrylic because it’s cheap & I do have some nice soft favorites but I’ve been wanting to try some natural fibers pretty bad they look amazing, I’m a crocheter!
When you talk about projects where you are using two strands of yarn together, are you actually using 16 rather than 8 skeins? Or if you are looking at a pattern that calls for (for example: sport weight ) one yarn but you want to use two different strands do you have any tips?
Please remember, if natural yarns are cheap, you need to question: the husbandry of the animals and how the fibres are collected. Yarn farming is big business now and their practices are not always good for the animals.
Please tell me how to care for homemade knit projects! I’ve been scared to make things like sweaters and socks because I don’t know how to wash them properly! Help!

Thank you for this video. I’m a relatively new knitter and am trying out several different patterns and techniques right now to see what works for me in terms of fit, style, and material (especially as I live in an area of the US that is pretty warm the majority of the year), so I’ve been using more inexpensive blends. Kroy Paton sock yarn, Lion’s Brand Wool Ease, and various cotton types make up my current stash. Good thing too because I already have a couple of Frankensocks as a result of learning how to knit socks and various heel styles. 😂 But as I learn the process of how to knit socks and garments, I do want to transition to yarns that will produce a more polished finished item, hence my search for yarn reviews. I especially liked how you showed the two yarns in the same project and the difference between the stitch definition and wear. That was particularly enlightening.

Hmm it’s very fluffy yes but I think it would work well for a child’s poncho. Or, for a ”heavier” and more dense texture I love Drops Nepal and Brushed Alapca Silk together, also totally non itchy ☺️

I really appreciate your reviews and especially comparing price points. Would you consider doing a review of all the mohair/silk, suri/silk yarns that are available now? The brilliant knitter/designer who first recommended combining one wool strand with one mohair/silk should be given a lifetime achievement award from the mohair marketing board! I love Drops and their pattern and technical support is unsurpassed. What is your opinion of Holst garn? Am considering getting a couple of cones of super soft. In your travels, if you come across Wagtail Yarns [Australia based] I highly recommend their 50/50 merino/mohair. The colors are amazing jewels. And the fabric is beautiful. Finally, is there a discontinued yarn that you wish someone would bring back? BTW, I have enough Cascade 220 to knit 70 sweaters. Heavily cabled ones. Big fan too of Berroco Ultra Alpaca (50/50). And a big fan of yours too!💜🧶💜
Those kind of wool I find you have to be a professional knitter because if you make a mistake it is hard to unpick.
I agree that using very fuzzy yarns can be a bit tricker to use if you’re new to knitting as it’s harder to unravel. But the really chunky and thick wool yarns are really goos to use as a beginner 👍🏼

I really like drops brushed alpakka silk (at a tighter guage) knitted Double 20st/10 cm gives a nice fabric, single 30st/10 cm is really nice. I see you are into the soft fluffy stuff, which I also like. But i have also have a love for rustic wool yarns, (to wear over thin cotton sweathers) like Peer Gynt from Sandnes yarns, it gives a sturdy everlasting garment. Another Norwegian wool that I loooove is Finull by Rauma. This wool yarn gives light and warm garments. The pelt wool from Hillesvåg is also wonderful.
I like cotton but i more crochet than knit. I like Scheepjes.

I have only been knitting since hurricane Harvey 😂. That’s how I remember how love long… so 5 years or so. The only local places I have to purchase yarn are Walmart and Hobby Lobby, so basically no choices and have been cautious from purchasing online. Thank you for this video. First of all, I love your content, you have a great personality and you are an inspiration. I've been knitting for about three years and I'm still learning a lot. I also knitted the Sunday Brunch Sweater with drops and actually find it too itchy for me. I can't wear it on bare skin, and I always have to pull something under it. I'm apparently extra sensitive. But it was still a great project.
Arriving a bit late but if I can give some advice to everyone wearing sweaters made of natural fibers and especially to those who (like me) are extreeeemely sensitive to itchy wools: wear a cotton (or other material) t-shirt under your sweater. That way it won't be in direct contact with your skin. Double advantage: it won't itch, and you won't need to clean the sweater itself often, thus it will last longer! ^^
Also, remember that polyamide and so on is plastic, it is extremely detrimental to the environment!! And that cheap natural yarns often mean that animals are ill-treated, so better pay more and buy less but to people who respect animals' well-being!!
Thank you. I'd love to know the colours of all your yarns and to see them displayed in the light and, where possible, in a finished garment. Choosing them online can be difficult and it's super expensive to get the colour wrong when buying yarn from Europe to be sent to NZ. :) You seem to have a great colour range, so it would be useful to know what each colour is called.

I have just found your channel and was watching your video on how long it takes to knit a sweater….as I knitted a colourwork sweater with Drops Air. My next sweater will be knit with Drops Wish. Sadly it is hard to get Sandes Garn in Tasmania.
I love Drops yarns and have used them a lot, but was very disappointed by Nepal. :( I knit a cardigan and within a week it was absolutely covered in pills.
I am currently knitting in Drops Alpaca since I need thinner sweaters here in Southern Europe.
Your grandmother's sweater is stunning! It looks like something from the 60s or 70s. Do you ever use cashmere? It seems to have such brilliant and unique colours. Is that just due to tradition, or does it have something to do with the way the wool holds the dye?
I love to knit with natural fibres too. Australian Merino either 100% or mixed with Alpaca or synthetics for sock knitting for the hardwearing longevity. Alpaca is so soft to knit with and I love wearing it against my skin but it doesn't keep memory or shape well so it is often better in a mix or if it is 100% I love knitting cowls with it because they're generally not being stretched as you wear them. I also love to work with cotton. Cotton also doesn't have memory however for summery tops and smaller projects cotton is lovely to work with. Bendigo Woollen Mills in Victoria, Australia have awesome cotton yarns in various weights from fingering to Aran. Possum is also a very soft fibre to knit with. It is often found in Australian and New Zealand yarns as a yarn mix. I'm not as keen on wearing or knitting with mohair, cashmere or similar yarns because I find those whispering fluffy bits irritating on my skin, which makes me interested in Drops Wish yarn thank you for sharing I haven't heard of the Wish yarn before. You have some gorgeous knits and yarns so wonderful to see different yarns people work with and patterns. Great episode thank you!

The Yarns are a new experience in the natural fibres. Acrilic had been fun and versatile. Now I feel I can try checking out some of those you mentioned and reviewed. I might try Alpaca, Angoras and Yak too.
