I'm literally from Bad Homburg. Never thought I'd see my hometown on this channel 😀 Great guide, and since I'm from Bad Homburg I shall try the Homburg
Several years ago, I inherited a vintage homburg in dark blue from my late great-uncle, that I had cleaned and reblocked. This video helps me to be more confident about how and when to wear this great hat. Thank you!
Of all these, I'm a pork-pie hat man, myself. I'm a short guy, but with a slender build, I tend to go for the ones with a flat brim and shorter crown. I find it goes with all sorts of things I tend to wear, be it causal or smarter, very versatile.
It is interesting to note the attention a brown porkpie will get. (n fact any pork pie that is not black attracts attention. I have been thrilled to see pork pies in colours other than black. I have decided to get a brown one. I'm a retired musician that wore a black porkpie hat for years.
Superfluous compliment: I absolutely love your glasses. They make the entire video. Sincere compliment: Helpful and informative video. Your glasses fit properly and compliment your style well. Thank you
I've recently moved back up north from the tropics. Hats have become a part of my new wardrobe. My preferences are the English Flat Cap, the Diamond Pork Pie and the Round Crown Pork Pie.
Fedora or Trilby for me. Love all the old noir films from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Wore a fedora often with a Pierre Cardin black wool overcoat when I live and worked in NYC. I still like a straw fedora or Trilby for summer. Even for sports teams I like this look. I just purchased an orange with black band straw Trilby and stuck a clear button logo for the Baltimore Orioles on it.
Dear Preston, you have got the most clearest aacent that I have ever heard. Can you please give me tips on how to clear my accent as well and I would be grateful if you make a video on how to clear accent. God bless you and continue with your best work. Thanks.☺
Happen to have a vintage trilby in olive rabbit fur that had a single top crease in it when I got it after Grandpa passed away. The brim edge was folded over and sewn. I had to resize it by a full inch. The hatter used the original sweatband, and inserted a piece of leather. I preferred the open dress crease and had dimples added to the front. The brim was abnormally short so I had the hatter un-stitch the brim and bind it in black ribbon. The original wide black ribbon band was retained along with the wind string.
I bought a burgundy homburg from Firenze few years back, and it seems to go well with black, gray and even white. Definitely makes me feel more upper classy, and seems to ask for more formal attire in order to feel good. Made me also buy a white panama hat for summer use, as it doesn't require formal wear, and goes well with lighter summer styles.
I'm more of a bowler hat kind of person, and I wear flat caps on casual occasions. I do have a soft spot for homburg, too bad the one I have doesn't match my head shape. At one time in my life I did wear a fedora / trilby, but nowadays there is a stigma attached to it.
Really good content Preston. I've been studying hats for a brief period of time and begun to see how stiles changed with the time, and I think some of them should come back. For me one of the greatest hats of history that loss his space on wardrobes with the centuries was the tricorne hat, an old fashion from the 18th century. I really think that bring it back to these days would be amazing. Anyway, great video and hugs from Brazil. By the way sorry if I wrote something wrong, my English is a work in progress.
My absolute favorite is the pork pie hat!🎩 I'm obsessed 🤠😊 reminds me of Boho/Nomad style and also reminds me of the 90s specifically a 90s college based sitcom called A different world. Many of the characters were hat wearers.
I added a fedora and a trilby to my dress wear. Tried a homburg but was to big for my face but I love them😂. Maybe if I can find one with a lower crown. Great video, thanks
I have a black Henschel pork pie hat, which I wear with the brim snapped all the way down. It was only offered in black. It's the shortest brimmed hat I own at 2 inches, with the rest of my hats being 2.5 or 3 inches. I have a long oval face, and while a pork pie may be considered short, I still like how it looks on me. Definitely more of a casual style, but stylish nonetheless. Thank you for the videos.
I wear a fedora on a daily basis - both on my way to and from work, and during my leisure time. In the summer I tend to wear either a white or cream Panama with a navy band, or a khaki canvas Panama with a brown leather band
1920’s newsboy hat. Every early Superman new room shot the guys wore trilby. I wore one every Sunday to church as a kid. I have grown the appreciate the larger brim of the fedora or even a more oversized brim.
Dang, Preston! Your outfit today was very nice! Glad to see this video. I have a couple of trilbies, but I've been afraid to wear them, because here at Iowa State, nobody dresses traditionally anymore, not even professors. Even though I always try my best to wear them the right way, with collared shirts, especially when wearing sweaters over my dress shirts, and I have a strong jawline, nose, and forehead. That said, I still never felt like I have the confidence to wear them because nobody else does, and due to the stigma. I have one in all black with a black band and one in sort of a grey tweed with a black band, so they're also traditional. Great video! Thanks for letting me know I can get away with wearing them! It's great to see how you've progressed Preston! Noticeably less nervous and much more confident! Keep it up!
Just started the collection, with an Epsom narrow band trilby, Bessemer and the other silver-grey , looking forward to the more formal Homberg in Black!
I tend to prefer my Fedora or a Trilby. And I'll wear a sort of Pork Pie hat when working outdoors in the summertime or on vacation in summer. Well another good video Preston, keep going, your doing a good job.
Merci pour cette belle leçon , Un chapeau défini bien le caractère de celui qui le porte , avec ce coté très chic et de noblesse . Nous aimons les chapeaux en France tout comme notre histoire . Salut Hubert
I wear a beige trilby to match a vintage London Fog gabardine for practical reasons: I cannot wear a regular toque (french Canadian tuque) made of wool in winter. Whatever hat I wear has to have an inner lining. For my Aquascutum long overcoat (I do not share Raphael's opinion on overcoats that fall well below the knees) I wear rabbit wool hard anthracite Pannizi. Here again, the intention is practical; the hat is water proof and is perfect to wear with a Barbour jacket also. So it is a good solution if you don't want to lug around an umbrella.
Interesting video. I have never seen any of these hat styles IRL. In my neck of the woods you will most predominantly find the trucker and the baseball.
I have a quality hat which sits between a Homburg and a Trilby, with a notable evenly up-curled shortish brim. Think Run DMC. Wouldn't mind getting a English origin Trilby as were popular with Mods.
I know these hat videos are a little old now but I love hats. My daily hat is a dark grey tweed flat cap but I'm looking for something a little more unique that I can wear a lot and can serve as a semi casual hat but also a formal brimmed hat. I'm about 6.1 ft tall, slightly stocky build, with a large chest length beard and I like to wear dark jeans cuffed at the ankles. Any recommendations?
I have a 100 percent wool overcoat. That I recently had professionally dyed from navy blue to black. I want to bring it to the dry cleaners just once because during the dying process it got a tad wrinkled and weathered looking, but I'm concerned that the dry cleaning process may affect the dye in the wool and have it fade closer back to navy blue. Do you have any wisdom on this matter?
Preston, you could wear more elegant shoes than the boring black derbies we've seen often. Anyway, another great video, I just bought my first brimmed hat today - a navy blue trilby.
since i don't have quite as much hair as i once had, I'm thinking of starting to wear hats. Of all the hats in this video, the one i thought was by far the best was the trilby the host himself was wearing. Does anyone know the name for the shade of brown it's in? It would go well with my clothes
Most Homburgs I've seen don't have a crease along the crown - I'm not talking about the top centre crease here - but rather a crease along the side of the crown. Everyone I've seen with a crease has a crease along the middle of the crown rather than towards the centre front. Gregory Peck, in the movie The Big Country, wears a cool looking straw Homburg with the side crease.
I'm going to be super honest. I didn't like Preston at all at first. He was just lacking the right tone and confidence to be on gentleman's gazette (Compared to Raphael, that is). But after watching this video, I see some awesome improvements. Please keep up the good work, Preston. It's nice to see you on GG.
I've started wearing a trilby (a cheap black one) to school and most guys make fun of me for it, but lots of girls compliment it so I guess it evens out. Also everyone calls it a fedora.
Can someone please tell me the brand of the Trilby hat being worn in this video, please? I am looking for that exact hat and can't find one anywhere. Thanks in advance.
advice on wearing a brown fedora/trilby with black ribbon? I have a vintge Cavanagh hat (w/ edge) in these colors. traditional fashion rules were not to pair brown and black, but rules were meant to be broken (and in a hat , on a black-skinned person who is brown skinned and black haired, can't be too faux pas?) (the has on the background rack at 8:46)
What is the average brim size of a classic trilby? I think a trilby might look better on me than a fedora, (I'm a skinny guy) but I don't want a modern style trilby with a brim that is way too small. Thanks.
I'm literally from Bad Homburg. Never thought I'd see my hometown on this channel 😀

Wearing a brown pork pie around Barcelona for the last 3 days and receiving many curious and positive looks.

Hola
That guy is dressed for a 50’s film. He suits what he is wearing and make no mistake, that is no compliment!
The Homburg has always been my first choice for formal wear, appealing to the Gentleman in me! Very grateful for your guidance Sir! 🙏🏽
Superfluous compliment: I absolutely love your glasses. They make the entire video.

That jawline is so sharp I can cut wood with it
How do you think he get his suits so tailored
Nice to see Preston back. Another great video.
I love the look of a homburg...it’s classic, distinguished, and stylish. Jeremy Brett often wore one when acting as Sherlock Holmes.
I'm seriously considering a bowler (derby) hat. Patiently awaiting a video on these hats with advice for wearing and matching.
Dear Preston, you have got the most clearest aacent that I have ever heard. Can you please give me tips on how to clear my accent as well and I would be grateful if you make a video on how to clear accent. God bless you and continue with your best work.

@B B I think Sean Connery had some advice on that.
I am a huge fan of the pork pie hat, and have 4 in various colors and materials.

I like that Preston is back for another video! For a while - it was a little weird for him to be on here, but I'm used to him being on here now!
Yep! Would feel quite odd if he now disappeared all of a sudden.
Im thinking about a marine blue Homburg. Very daring but somehow i instantly felt drawn to it when i saw it.

How can people NOT love hats?! They are fun. I am a religious Jew and wear a trilby.
Another great presentation by Preston. A joy to watch!

I look good in Panama, Fedora, Trilby, and Flatcaps. I've yet to try a Homburg, but its next on my list!
As you see, I got one (actually two, a brown and a black Homburg) best looking hat Ive ever worn!
Thanks Preston. I was so set on wearing a trilby to work (till they messed up my screening aaahh) but right now a flat cap will have to suffice 🤟🏼
Lol!
Can't wait for the top hat and bolwer videos!
Stay tuned! :)

1920’s newsboy hat. Every early Superman new room shot the guys wore trilby. I wore one every Sunday to church as a kid. I have grown the appreciate the larger brim of the fedora or even a more oversized brim.

Superb comment and totally understand what you mean. I can see your silhouette as i read it. Cool!

I love me a good old classic hat
I've occasionally worn a Triby usually with tweed.
