    I really like the mechanics here! One thing even with 2 hands is to try and keep things effortless and relaxed as possible. Bowling starts with a transfer of kinetic energy all the way to the pins.
    Plus you want to minimalize wear and tear, and bowl as safely as possible. Excellent video!

    I gave up bowling over 20 years ago, but I remember that when I started in the 1980s there was not the coaching for kids there is today and I was self taught. I developed the same habit you mention about "pushing the ball" away due to the use of the term "push away". It resulted in the ball getting far in front of my body, late timing and a very inconsistent release. In the early 90s, I attended the Dick Ritger Bowling Camp and they corrected my error. I had to think "drop away" and not "push away". Within two years, my average ( on house conditions) increased from the low 180s to over 200.

      @@prettynicefield1104 Maybe but it seems very subtle to me like you're not pushing it, you're more so directing it's swing path which wouldn't require much force just a slight directional influence.

    I learned the hard way about this and never understood why my swing momentum and finish position was bad, especially on sport patterns. My coach, after seeing him for a year and a half, showed me through video and gave me notes, and finally noticed I needed the same stuff. Rounded and continuous, and finish with my trail foot down. Same notes and same problems. It working good now because I’m committed on the game plan.

    I used to do the full "pushaway" until coach Daniel had me think of it more as a "hinge down" movement. I use my non-bowling hand as a sort of trap door when I start my steps. On step 2, I take that hand off the ball and just let the ball fall directly into my swing. It's controlled, but it's not way out in front of me, anymore. Completely revolutionized my approach.

    My OCD went crazy with counting when I first learned the push on 5 steps. Everywhere I went I counted
    Step - push - 3 - 4 - 5
    push - 3 - 4 - 5
    3 - 4 - 5
    4 - 5
    & - 5
    I still count like this walking to today. It has been 20ish years now.

    I started bowling in 1979 and still bowl the same way I was taught. So I pushaway at the start of my 5 step approach. That causes enough delay so my timing is correct. But it causes me to have less revs than a delayed pushaway/swing start.

    Excellent tutorial!
    You are essentially walking past the ball as it swings down and back up to the apex. The ball should not move forward until it approaches the apex of the swing. Your cadence must be correctly timed with your swing in order for this to occur. The tail should not wag the dog.

    Did this tonight before I watched this video. It really works. I was tense and shooting horribly. I couldn’t get to the pocket, speed was all over the place and I couldn’t hit my target. The house coach was watching me and he told me I was trying to force the ball and told me to relax my hole body. All I did was relax and proceeded to throw 12 in a row, between 2 games and finished with a 268 and a 604 series. From one extreme to the other all because I relaxed.

    Question: you mentioned a 5 step approach, the push away should start on the second step. Does that mean then on a 4 step approach the push away should start on the first step?

    • @ripvanrevs
      @ripvanrevs ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't totally agree with that. My understanding is the benefit of the five step approach is that you start the ball in motion as you are taking the first step with the leg on the opposite side of the ball so you stay more balanced. I was taught 4 step in the 70s and bowled that way for many years. I switched to 5 step for that reason and the fact that most high level bowlers were using an odd number of steps.

    • @joshdanna7509
      @joshdanna7509 ปีที่แล้ว

      Missed that somehow. I use a 4 step, but I push away on the second step. Idk, it feels better timing wise but maybe I'm hindering myself.

    I would add one more tip to the pushaway: your posture. Sometimes when you are a little too forward in your posture, your pushaway will tend to be more "straight down" and you end up pulling the ball up in the back swing instead of letting the ball swing itself.
    ....and if anybody knows how to fix this, please make a video so i can watch :)

I’m almost always on the outside of the bowling ball and on top of it which I feel is also caused by the ball wrapping behind me in my back swing
