Last fall when we got our pig done, the new processors had a vacuum sealer, and sealed all our chops and ground pork, which is what we get our pigs done into. The vacuumed sealed meat is as fresh right now as it was when I put it into the freezer last fall. See if any of your meat processors offer this, it is SO worth it!

My garden isn't doing that great either Bev. Here in Manitoba a bag of 10lbs of potatoes is about $8 and a 20lbs bag is about $11. Your prices aren't bad in your area. But everything is going up. I wish I had more space to grow more veggies for my freezer, but I utilize all the space I have which is better than nothing. I'm thinking of converting some of my flower beds in veggie beds in the front yard.

Yep, I agree about the garden and how the fires are just being started by lighting😉😉. I've the same issue here with the fires from Quebec. It really has messed with the prosperity of mine too. I think I'm a bit further north here in Ontario than you but not by much. Not only the haze and almost daily "special weather statement" from Environment and "c" change Canada (notice how they slipped that too in under the radar?) 😡 And...although I like cold nights @10C (50F) it doesn't make that garden grow either. 😪. Thank the Lord Jesus that the stores still have "specials". Like you say.. take advantage of the sales.
How are your chickens doing? 🕊❤

I got a good deal on ground chuck from our local butcher so I'll be canning that today. I find that 11 lbs of burger will fill 14 pint jars nicely. I'll be on the lookout for beef brisket or cheap roasts to cut up for stew meat. With all the storms we've been having I don't trust the power to stay on so it's meat on the shelf instead of the freezer this year.

When you were washing your jar's Gracie did a sweep to see if you had dropped any goodies for her. That was just so adorable. She is such a sweetie, I love to see her on your video's. That is such a good idea to grind it up. I had bought a half a beef, I think that there is a few packages left.

There are other people that aren’t getting as good as gardens either. Stinks. I pray for all every day blessing my food for good gardens and so forth. Squash bugs ate some of our stuff. Faster than we could keep up..
    Great video.

Hi, Bev! While I do can meat, when I get meat in butcher paper, I vacu-seal it. It will keep so much longer that way! I get a lot of venison in late Summer/early Fall from one of my friends that clears his freezer for the new hunting season in October. That will be eaten first, or canned, be it ground or stew meat. Depending on how the hunting season goes, I get gifts of fresh venison from several friends, and that gets immediately vacu-sealed, butcher paper and all. This year I was blessed with a new, 14 ft chest freezer, so I'm going to buy some locally source beef. I never had enough freezer space in the past. This will be an expensive purchase, but will save me so much in the long run. Not only will the meat be of better quality, it will actually work out to be less per pound than what I'm buying at the grocery store. That's a win in my book!

I can't afford that many vacuum seal bags. So I only.. If vacuum seal anything that has the paper damaged

@@OurHalfAcreHomestead No, not raw I bake the ones I can up, just like with ground meats. Just found I like quick meatballs in a stroganoff or patties on a breakfast muffin with cheese and egg and that canning up the meat in those shapes seemed to stir my creativity. Hugs.

Hi Bev....I would like to ask you a question. Our local grocery store (Kroger) has brisket on sale for $2.99LB. Now, I have googled and read others opinions, but I value your opinion tremendously and would like to know if this something worth while to purchase and grind to use for burgers and meatloaf and soups. I honestly have never cooked it either so would it be good for roasts or stews? Thank you so much. Always a pleasure to see your videos and hear your voice.

All the produce I’ve been buying the last few months (this year’s crops) have been terrible as far as quality. Peppers look beautiful, but start rotting from the inside. Corn on the cob is very immature (tiny kernels) and sparse ~> areas with no kernels. Blueberries mushy and I’ve found moldy ones mixed in. Cucumbers and zucchini are also mushy, with cucumbers being bitter, and zucchini skin all scratched up and even bumpy. Celery has been very thin and scrawny. I won’t even go into prices. 🙄
