Wont get the mpg or torque without the 6.0 intake and fuel injection. A few guys have done 12v cummins in these. The nice thing with the gasser is you dont have to change the rear end gears. That was the biggest hurdle for the diesel swappers because they had to also install a gear vendors OD unit to keep the rpms in check with the diesel or drive slow.
My 73 Vette had a 454 with 130k on it before a main bearing went which took out a bunch of other crap so engine was done, I bought a rough 74 Motor home with a 454 with 39,200k on it for $800 that engine is now in my Vette and it runs pretty good for what it is.
That would be a beast. Haha ya got a choice of you want to run it at 1800 or 3600 for a generator. They didn’t use many mopars on gen sets, the next closest thing was the Ford 460. Best they did with those was about 70kw without a turbo , and 100kw with a turbo(at 1800 rpm)
are you sure?? i seen them straight from mopar for pumping and siren duty's " stationery industry engine " and litichard saying that the last one sold form the dealership new was somewhere in the late 80s or early 90s and some are turbocharged but i haven't seen any in person ruining i did see the manifolds for it but $$$ so i didn't end up using them on my engine plus its setup for small sized turbo flanges and that means it's hard to make "big power" and buy bolt on modern trubos
Richard Price since the early 2000s fm engines have kinda taken over on most of the gen sets I see. Ford had a big share before gm , but gm woke up and started using turbos. You’d see a Chrysler here and there but Fords outnumbered em 10-1
interesting in 2010-14 i lived in NE USA and i didn't really see any real mass use of ford's engines used most of my farmer neighbour's ( id drive by the pumping houses on the way to work and i never did know why they didn't just use the electric grid with 3p motors and skip the stationery engines ) used pre ls chevy 350 or mopar big blocks / some LA magnums the later being more rair and the towns air siren was converted to a sb chevy / electric motor and my work used a diesel / lpg caterpillar engine as power back up for the ammonia compressors and emergency lighting

Random Stuff In Oregon cause it only makes 200hp
@@JohnDoe-ml8ru Small blocks are generally better engines
This is awesome! we have a 91 A-class with a TBI 454 I've thought about turboing for extra pulling power and gas mileage. This certainly inspires me to think more seriously about it,
also what did you do with the 440? Is it for sale?
if so let's exchange info because I'd like to buy it
What? No lift kit?
Wont get the mpg or torque without the 6.0 intake and fuel injection.
A few guys have done 12v cummins in these. The nice thing with the gasser is you dont have to change the rear end gears. That was the biggest hurdle for the diesel swappers because they had to also install a gear vendors OD unit to keep the rpms in check with the diesel or drive slow.
It's going EFI. Spoiler alert.
My 73 Vette had a 454 with 130k on it before a main bearing went which took out a bunch of other crap so engine was done, I bought a rough 74 Motor home with a 454 with 39,200k on it for $800 that engine is now in my Vette and it runs pretty good for what it is.
Derek Joon
What part of the motor home was the 454 on? The roof, cargo carrier attached to the tow hitch, on the floor in the toilet?
Bruce Thomas it was in a 1983 30ish foot Southwind.
Better off with a Cummins turbo and a matching trans.
that motor mount setup is scary looking
Can you do my RV? same project needs a new motor suspension and brakes
Cool build, I had a 78 Bago at one time. Word of advice, don't weld on top of your welder. They don't like that, trust me.
The smell is Disneyland. Pirates of the Caribbean. Old 70's trailer park mobile homes smell like that too...
Underneath, it looks just like a UPS truck.
Use the 440 to run the generator
billy greenhorn Hell yeah!.... Or the blender
Why is it got that water apart you might as well change the knock sensors and if you're going to change that oil pan I go ahead and change the oil pump
Why not a 6.7 powerstroke?
I don't have a trust-fund set aside for pay for that swap.
I hear Freiburger is looking to re-motorhome 440 his General Mayhem. Word is he liked the Hellcat swap so little, he sold the car to the parent company of the show and they pretend it's still his.
Adam Payne
Wow!
That motor looks pretty clean for 40 years old. Must have been out at some point.
L.S with Fuel Injection
absolutely no sense, small ports on 440 and long stroke, then swapped to Huge ports on very small engine , and to point is to Haul. love and a bucket a crap gets you everywhere
The Cost of a 440 is half that of Exotic small block
"Exotic?" It was $150.
OHH THOSE BRAKE ROTORS That's a first gen dodge brake caliper can tell by the clips they are super famous for caliper clapping over bumps, Im thinkin a D350 500 or 600 will work for rotors order them and try em out worse comes to worst return them you have to pull the adapter off
140 ain't even close. It was pretty powerful for the era. Get this: 220 hp factory 1978
About 230 horse new, considerably less in that form.
The smell is nostalgia :)
Not really ancient weed?!
I would put a Scania truck motor in there :-)
Youd be suprised with motorhome gas mileage, on the highway of course where most are driven. My dads e450 sunseeker with the modular v10 gets like 12 on the highway, only a few ticks down from my 2000 2500 chevy 6.0. Mostly becuase all that weight keeps the inertia going.
I have a 83 RV Chevy p30. Got pads rotors calipers on a Saturday in Wisconsin for $400! Installed !Never buy dodge Chevy parts are everywhere
On the front axle/brake rotors.. gm 3500hd, swap the adapters,
Even being a Mopar guy I'd do the same swap
1996 ford 3/4 ton and 1997 ford 3/4 ton bolt on the same way and I'm sure other older Ford's are the same style as well.
Roadkill approved!
So much room for activities
would have rebuilt that 440 and put fuel injection in it, would make monster torque compared to little LS motor which what a heavy motorhome needs. But I am sure that 440 in its current state was pretty weak. Interesting swap.
You should have put a Cummins diesel engine in it with a transmission. Now that would last you a long time.
Go with the fuel injection> I had a 1991 P30 chassis with the 454 and the 4l85e transmission. I got 9-10 mpg at 60 mph in my 28' motorhome.
I think the 440 was first rated at 230 Hp and 330 pounds of torque
That would be for the late 70s motorhome setup
I am in love. Fiddlesticks
