I used to deliver these GMC Motorhomes all over the country back in the 70's. I loved these things It was like getting paid to be on vacation. I have not to this day driven a motorhome of this class that handled so well and rode so nice. I'm jealous of anyone who is lucky enough to have one.I would pick them up at the factory in Pontiac Mich, and have delivered as far south as Miami, and west to Texas, and in between. You have done a fabulous job on this piece of Art....enjoy.
this guy deserves an award for his hard work and innovation. theres only a handfull of these gmc classics left so its always nice to see people update amd preserve theirs.
They may be the best RVs ever built. They would have been built much longer if the price of gas had not risen so sharply and the Mid East oil embargo had not occurred. So ahead of their time.
It's amazing that no one has copied the GMC concept for RV's. Maybe I'm just stuck in the seventies, but those things always look contemporary even though they are forty years old.
Doug Weatherup the new ones are so poorly built. We bought two new ones last year for work. They both had to be put in the shop after each use. Water leaks, malfunction, and the things were just falling apart. I’d never buy a another
I was just 17 years of age, working as a night cleaner at a restaurant in Simsbury, Ct when the owners drove up with one of these! My jaw dropped! It looked massive and so unique and "modern". How fortunate you are to be able to own one today.
My employer converted one of these rigs to a full scale TV production truck in 78 that was still in use until about ten years ago. It was heavy and lumbered down the road, but was a smooth ride. This owner is in incredible craftsman to have envisioned the mods and then been able to produce them in such incredible quality. Those rigs were quite visionary for their time. Kind-of a shame they didn't produce them for a longer period of time. Nice job with the tour video. I really enjoyed the step back in time.
BEAUTIFUL !! My uncle had one and I loved it, but he warned me about one drawback of the front wheel drive that he hadn’t predicted. One morning he was ready to roll out but all he did was spin tires. He had no choice the night before but to park on grass. The combination of six tires very slightly sinking into the turf, and dew on the grass in the morning, and he was stuck. A couple of shovels full of gravel solved it but he was shaking his head and laughing, as were his camp neighbors.
Nice job on that. I’d love to buy one and do something similar but I’m already addicted to MCI busses and have one thats already converted . Maybe one day…
Back about 2001 when we were looking for our 1st RV, I looked at one of these in good shape, and had a chance to buy it at a very reasonable price. Wish I had it now. Great work.
@@AdventureVanMan I heard the man say I did this and I and that and I have also seen people saying the same thing only to have others do the work. It's like saying I built this house when you might have had a plumber do work you might have had an electrician do work and so on.
Great set up! I lived on a GMC motorhome during the summer of ‘76, driving it from venue to venue for a Virginia US Senatorial campaign. It was amazing on the highway and handled exceptionally well with its low center of gravity. I’m surprised the design hasn’t been duplicated today.
The GMC motor home was designed by my stepfather Paul H. Deesen Sr. ~ GM Tech, Warren, Mich. He was with GM from the 50s until retirement, but went on to designing private planes also. He drew the 67 Camaro on our formica dining room table, he designed the 70 SS Chevelle, both cars we had as "family" cars in spite of there being 7 kids. 😂 Too many details to list here are among his designs. In my biased opinion GM always had the most beautiful designs. What a beautiful reno here!
Usually I can't stand to see someone butcher up an RV and remove the factory furniture or paint walls which really always looks like trash but this guy did the absolute BEST job on his renovation that I have seen yet! Love the TV set up how it looks all built in..Everything looks built in and the way it should look..Excellent job! He actually raised the resale value of this coach soo much!! This is one of the few coaches that it does raise the resale value by doing renovations...had this been a 1987 Southwind with painted walls and Wal-Mart curtains, Target fur rugs it would look like trailer trash!! These GMC coaches only go up in value and It's great to see a high end job done to one!
@Charles Toles I hate shabby chic too..I was talking to a buddy at Lazy Days, a large Tampa area dealer, and he said they end up having to run those altered trades through the auction as they just can't sell them..nobody wants a painted or altered RV..the worst is the ones who remove the factory sofa and put two recliners! They won't give them much at all on trade if they have painted or removed factory furniture or built ins..even if it was a 3 year old coach once you paint the walls, forget it..any resale is gone..I have bought and sold for years and I won't even look at one if it's been altered, painted or had factory furniture removed..I can't resell them easy enough or even get much out of them..It's like this..would you take a 3 year old Mercedes and paint the dash? No! A RV is more like a car than a house when it comes to improvements..You can't tell that to the people on the RV forums..they love that Shabby shit I mean Chic..Just information from a dealer/flipper/re-seller's standpoint!!
@Charles Toles I sold my 1983 Wanderlodge 35FC SB back in 2007..Bought in 2006..paid $20K, invested $10K sold for $32K..it was a HUGE money pit but such a cool coach! I miss it..not the upkeep...or slow speed!! Max speed pedal to the floor on the 3208 CAT turbo diesel was 65mph!! (Front diesel) I am familiar with HMC..(Hawkins)..they did make a high quality coach..solid wood cabinets etc...everything that went into a HMC was the best of it's time..the A/C units..Penguin low profile, the best at the time..Hard to find a HMC now days..gas or diesel...
I liked the flat screen storage area, I'm going to copy that. The bathroom is nice, very nice. I wish y'all would have shown more of the outside/roof areas, and what's underneath. Loved this video!
Beautiful looking GMC Motorhome. That, to me, is the perfect motorhome. At 26' in length, it's small enough that anyone with a standard driver's license could drive it without problems, and yet it's large enough that two people could easily live in it while traveling the country.
Love their GMC, such a classic!! Wow, a 76”. That’s what you need a person that’s handy! Just a stunning re-model! So impressed 😮 I know they come with heaters. So the wood stove must be for saving fuel. The kitchen lay out is fabulous! Beautiful, just beautiful! The size of these is perfect! The food storage in the liquor cabinet , genius! 😢
I really love these rigs. I have researched them for about 5 years now and fully intend to buy one. I have always told my best buddy that when I get one I will need a wood stove as I live in Canada. This by far is the most beautiful renovation Ive seen. The owners of this outstanding bus are living my dream. Its so gorgeous! What an incredible job.
Very cool GMC travel vehicle! Early retirement sounds so inviting. Seems like RV living, boondocking, and life on the road is gaining in popularity. Amazing how many TH-cam channels are out there on this way of life. Of course, this is one of the best!
Talented guy and to someone who works out himself, it looks like Pat does also. I remember these campers from the day. It turns out that this camper is indeed timeless.
Love this RV Brian...one of my favorites....maybe its because back in the 70's my Dad was ready to buy one of these but fell ill and passed away a few months later so we never could do it. I always wanted to finish his dream but never had the time or money at the same time (married and kids) throughout the years....THANK YOU for showing this wonderful project, makes me still dream....
That is one of the finest remodels I have seen of a GMC motorhome. I better get busy on mine...which is still in the possession of my neighbor. I guess its time to buy!
Love love love the GMC Motorhome, ever since Hot Wheels released the Palm Beach scale model. Still looks modern today. Way ahead of there time. They have done a fantastic job on the refit well done love it. We don't see them here in Australia. 👍👍👍👍👍
An RV is an extension of one's personality and Pat is quite an organised guy who has a great mix of form and function. Usually people either prefer go with a functional design and ruin the looks or the other way. This guy and his rig are truly rare! Should be a veteran!
Seriously, what is not to like here? There's actually people who gave this video thumbs down? I have been involved in the GMC MoHo community (Minnesota locally as well as GMCMI which is the GMC Int'l club) for 10+ years, and I've seen what I believe to be just about every possible configuration and modification done on these fine machines, but this one is particularly impressive - both in concept and execution. I enjoyed this very much! Thanks, and best of wishes to Brian! Thank you!

This Motorhome was way ahead of its time in the mid 70’s. And very expensive for the day. An average 3 bedroom house was $50000. And these were real close to that price tag.
Thats a really great job on this unit. The TV/pantry cabinet is a super idea. Plus several other ideas worth keeping in mind for anybody undertaking a remodel of RV or boat.

Pretty sweet, actually quite charming and homey. Personal choice, I would seriously upgrade that shower.
Gosh that is beautiful and totally livable. Sleek outside and cozy and almost elegant inside.
Thats a beautiful remodel of one of the best American classic rvs.
The absolute BEST motor home ever built. Hands down.

LMAO!
this is probably my FAVORITE GMC RV conversion project. i would so LOVE to own a rig like this. :)
Beautiful, just beautiful, seriously beautiful.

It's really got to be the best looking motorhome ever designed. It's a shame they stopped production early.
It really is. A timeless design. You could sell it today and it would be a huge hit. And the renovations are really great
I m from Germany and I love this car so much. What a futuristic design for the seventies. Absolute timeless!

Still hip, not Hipster is what you mean huh
