I remember Mikhail Baryshnikov mostly from White Nights. He and Gregory Hines did some terrific dancing in that movie. Great to see him pursuing his craft.
Coincidence?🤔 In the other interview about Marcel the Shell, they mention actress Isabella Rossellini playing the role of Marcel’s grandmother. In White Nights (1985) she played the wife of Gregory Hines’ character.😌
So refreshing to see this true, beloved, artist still practicing his true craft, performance ...such a beautiful soul! And still when you see him dance, it takes your breath away...
*SIR Baryshnikov , when I was a little girl taking ballet lessons I didn't have images of ballerina's on pointe to dream upon.. I had photographs of you leaping so high!* Always a fan, I absolutely loved his answer when asked how difficult it was to defect. Without pausing he said it was easier than Ukraine refugees have it. To know that as a celebrity, as a well known artist seeking asylum would be one thing but knowing what the Ukraine people have to do is another. Such a soft spoken and insightful gentleman!!
So many tears for the Ukrainian people, and so many for the russian people. Neither asked for this, nor did they orchestrate it. Thank God we have those like Misha who remind us there is still humanity in the world. Спасибо, Михаил!

I was fortunate enough to see his production of 'The Cherry Orchard' and it was amazing. First theater anything for me since big rona rolled into town. What a gift
Always a pleasure to see an interview with Misha. I've loved him since seeing White Nights in 1985. Such a passionate, generous, witty, humble man. Hope to see him perform on stage one day soon. 🙏
It would be good for Americans to repeat Mikhail's phrase: "It is not a Russian war, it is Putin's war." We need to be careful about that, because all Russians are not like Putin.
I felll in love with Michael when I saw him in a show with the phenominal Liza & MB on Broadway, & again in White Knights with the great Gregory Hines. Congrats Mikail for your courage to speak up here.
Yes I also know him from the movie “white nights”, one of my best loved movies! After that I became bedazzled with his style and leaps as I looked him up online. I also left Holland to immigrate to Australia 50 years ago. We are the same age!
I arrived in the United States on January 3, 1966. I fled communist Cuba. I feel exactly the same way as Mikhail Baryshnikov and so many others who found freedom in America. It is the best nation in the world. I am very grateful.
I know Baryshnikov from his illustrious time on stages in New York during my dance training years. He was an incredible dancer, absolutely incredible. He is a dance legend, still living his artistry. I would always be interested to hear his political thoughts and would watch him on stage, whatever he plays, anytime. He is an extraordinary artist.
No offense implied whatsoever to Mikhail Baryshnikov but, can’t help notice how much Michael Douglas now looks like him & vice-versa… dido on ‘no’ offense directed towards Michael Douglas either. In fact, if there’s any remote chance of a movie based on Mikhail B., Michael D. really should be casted!
@@vitiachao9765 Wow! To know that is incredible. So many wonderful, fantastic dancers, MUSICIANS, COMPOSERS, writers in the World .....so utterly, heartbreakingly sad to see what is being done to the Ukrainians and also to the Russian people. Why does Russia attract such despots as Stalin, Lenin and Putin....?
What's up with this "Marcel" nonsense?! Who cares about that?! So annoying. I thought this was supposed to be an interview with Baryshnikov, what a disappointing video.
You said about the war in Ukraine in 1974! Are you insane?! At this time Ukraine was a state of the United States of Soviet Republics! Learn history! Don't be so neglected!
Wonderful dancer but he doesn’t know anything about modern Russia. He has not been there for 50 years ! What a nonsense he’s telling here about a world of fear or Russian tanks targeting the Baltic states?! Misha, wake up ! The USSR is over. I feel very sorry for him.
@@lolasmith2002 you don’t want to know what is really going on and feel safe believing your media. I can’t say that Russian media are 100% truthful, but at least we can check both western and Russian news to get the overall understanding of what might be happening at the moment.

Arguably the best dancer of our generation. Baryshnikov never ceases to amaze me, astonishingly talented and a quality human being.🙏🏻
Yes, I totally agree with you. He is an incredible dancer, who manifests humility and goodness in his personality and gives so much to others.

Recently rewatched that classic. Amazing movie. Two legendary dancers.

I've seen him dance in person 4 times and he is literally breath taking.
Awesome interview! Thank you so much. Have loved Misha since 1977 when I saw him dance in NYC. A very gifted and good man.

The greatest of all time a legend and inspiration and a beauty soul ❤
I remember weeping watching him dance.
Absolutely an INCREDIBLE HISTORIC ARTIST
Such a graceful man...in word snd dance. Lovely interview.
Baryshnikov is to dance what Bruce Lee was to fighting arts...Charisma, perfect technique, he has it all

I watched him in Metamorphosis in the 80’s in NY. He was extraordinary. He looks like he can still dance beautifully!

A talent beyond words. He is a treasure.
Love that he loved Cagney, one of the greats!
I am so grateful Mikhail stood up for my country, I love his artistry, and I wouldn't be able to bare the betrayal. Thankfully, he didn't disappoint.
Mikhail Baryshinkov looks great at 75 years of age. What a fabulous dancer 🕴🏻
An amazing artist -- dancer and actor. My bet is he also writes and paints. All respect.
Mikhail Baryshnikov is an incredible dancer, an excellent actor, and…he is still foxy!😍

One look at the thumbnail and I thought, this guy could play attorney general Merrick Garland.
I adore Mikhail Baryshnikov!!! ♥
We needed more of Baryshnikov's interview 🙏🏻

Wasn't he also in a movie with Gregory Hines? I liked that movie.

White Nights was a great movie that he acted and danced in.
AKA Russian Michael Douglas
You see it too huh? 😄😄
My thought exactly
The Michael Douglas's grandparents were from the Mogilev Governorate of the Russian Empire.
Came for the ballet stayed for the shell 🤗
Weird how there are 2 different unrelated stories in this video
It was horrible!
Why did you interrupt Baryshnikov with that other trivial stuff?

Michael Douglas was MUCH more handsome than him when he was younger and I don’t see any similarity now either.
Sorry to hear the sweet couple got divorced!!!!!!!!!!! What a shame!
What a brave young man and certainly still brave to speak truth lay about Putin war which defines what most believe

Didn't realize that Leslie Stahl was part of this segment - how unfortunate.

I don't like your format showing two completely different stories. Just show one at a time It is disjointed and makes no bloody sense.
I watched. One played, then the next one played. No soup for you.

I wonder what is the view of Baryshnikov on the war in Iraq and Libia, bombing of Serbia? Does he know what americans were doing in Syria?
