Waiting on this reel so I'm watching videos of it until it's delivered. After seeing this I can stop looking for more videos. I'll just watch this one over and over...LOL. Great music, great fight, great reel. Nicely done!
Love my Avet SX 4/6 mc. Never could cast a bait-caster, but can cast this one as far as I need to. Smooth, fast in the high speed retrieve. Using it for salmon on Columbia River. May post vid later.
Man Pline is the shit I've used all of it up to cxx40 and I've been doing serious fishing since I was 10 and I can count on 1 hand how many times I've had that line break off on me because of stress it's happened 1 time and it was old line on what I think to be a jack love that shit and ever person I've ever had switch to it swears by it and usually goes from using 15lb big game trilene down to 8lb cxx impressive catch good work on the drag nice rig two thumbs up bro
Perfect setup for tuna, someone people don't realize the importance of having a 50 yard mono topshot. You will pull a lot less hooks tuna fishing with the topshot.
I have the whole spectrum of Avet's but I always go back to the SX size it's just such a comfortable reel to fish. I have the Raptor version now but I caught a number of large fish on the first generation SX. On an anchored boat it's so much harder to well done also!
The tuna are "jumping into the boats" close off San Diego right now. I only got one on Saturday 7/18 because a lightning storm cut our fishing short. But, my son-in-law got 11 YFT in the 20-30 pound range on Wednesday 7/22. We fish from his 36 foot Tiara...
are the tuna fluorocarbon line shy? im torn between which one should use a 25lb or 40lb fluro line. I never had the 40 break on me on a fish but the 25lb it happen quite a few times. Do you think ill get just as much bites with the 40 rather than the 25?
when going for tuna you never put on a top shot until you are at the boat. the captain/crew will tell you what was working on the previous trip and you would tie that on. You won't know what school of tuna is out there to know what is the best line size to use until you get that report.
robirdo I was wondering if I could use this exact setup on a 3/4 day of fishing that i'll be going on. Would you reccommend this setup for that application? I just don't want to be out gunned when hooking up to a yellow or lingcod. I hope you can shed some light on how this reel and rod will do under that kind of stress. (This setup is in my price range which is why I would love to here your thoughts.) -F&H
Hi, sorry I just saw this message and it looks like u already made your choice. Yeah that SX/Trevala MH wouldn't leave u undergunned but u made a good choice with the MXJ!!! I like that better than the SX so good job! Hope u get that rod bent soon
Awesome!!! I saw a deal that i couldnt pass up so i had to get the MXJ!! What would you suggest this reel (MXJ no MC) paired up with the Trevala MH6'6" would be good for? I was thinking of using Shimano's Flat Fall jigs and Colt Snipers. But I'm still very new to deep water fishing and the only experience i have is fishing 1/2 day boats with my bass gear lol! So i don't know what weights to toss on a 3/4 day. Sorry for the newbie questions btw. If you could shed some light on what applications this setup could be used for i'd love to hear your thoughts. robirdo
Nice! I just bought a Avet SX 5.3 MC and a Carnage rod locally at Squidco..Rather pricey at after watching successful videos like yours I thought and upgrade to my first lever drag would be in order for this tuna/yellowtail season...Loaded with 50lb spectra and a 30 yrd topshot of 25lb Maxima ultra green mono I'm ready to give it a shot on the Outer Limits (Seaforth) in two weeks..thanks for posting :)
Michael Novick Kgw100 has never used an Avet! LOL! That is a powerful setup, I got the SX Raptor on a Trevala, and it kicks ass way out of proportion to its size.
the song matched up with the hook set perfectly dude, nice catch

I’m doing the exact same thing right now 😂

I had about 220 yards of 50lb blue spectra & filled about 75 yards of 30lb P-Line CXX is smoke blue.

No need to punctuate that!

Are you using braided line?

Nice choice of music ,,, getting ready to order that reel

Damn and thats the 15 lb. drag max reel, why am I spending more on G-2 to get more drag I may not need...Nice job
Bad ass video, nice sync on the music!
I’m not gonna lie, that was sick 🙌👍🤟

40 you'll be fine off with! I would use 50 though lol

what were you drag settings at? stock? I am considering this combo and i hope you can help me out wit some answers
why do you have your thumb on the line? do you have to feed the line around by hand? or does it spool on there like it should by just reeling?
You have to lay the line level with your thumb. No automatic level wind.

FishandHook TV Upadate....I ended up buying a MXJ single speed instead of the SX. I plan on using this for butterfly jigging on a Trevala MH 6'6".
