I own both, and have to say both reel outer shells will out last your lifetime. The drags and the smoothness on the Shimano is better and outlasts the ones from Avet and that's speaking from experience. I would say everyone has their own preference. Try them both if you have the money and decide for yourself. If you can't afford, buy one used try it, then resell. I promise you won't lose much and sometimes even gain/profit. You really can't compare apples to oranges and can't compare trucks to a sports car. It depends on what your taste is and what you value more. I would definitely say that the Shimano casts better than the Avet but if this doesn't bother you and you're just out there dropping your line straight down then it doesn't matter.
The fact of the reel weight is not ever considered because if you've ever been tuna fishing, you're on the fish the whole night and after that you take a break and go right back and do it again, so when were you holding the rod and reel that you can't hold it anymore.

I've owned a couple of Shimano conventional reels, Avet reels and Accurate reels. Avet and Shimano are pretty good for the price, but not for Accurate. Ball bearings in Shimano reels are pretty good, and ones in Avet reels are sometimes so bad, depends on the model the places for the ball bearings and ball bearings themselves in smaller size models SX-LX excluding Raptor models should be improved, I seriously think they are useless unless you change the bearings. On the other hand with Shimano you can use them and perform really well without doing anything added on them. I agree with the body material conversation, It does feel nice in your hand if it's made out of high-spec metal that is why i like Avet and other American bullet-proof reel companies. And the gears on them are better, Brass gears get corroded quite easily.
I've fished both the the Avet SX 2 speed Raptor and the Telica 10 2 speed and my conclusion was they are both really nice reels. I own the Avet and my buddy owns the Shimano so I've fished the Avet far more than the Shimano. If either one fails for some reason I'll let your viewers know but as for now I'll call it a draw....except for the fact the Avet is less money, in the SX size $125usd cheaper which is quite a lot.
I think some commenters are missing the the fact that this Avet model is the MC which imo outcasts the Talica. I’ve own a Talica and no way it casta better than the MC Avet which I surfcast with. No way am I surf casting with a Talica.
The craftsmanship of the talica is far, far better than the avet. I live in the USA and the avet reels, while very good, are not as good as talica. They are coated better, you can't chip them or scratches as easily as avet reels. They are far smoother even though avet has 8 bearings and talica have 6. The lever is better on the talica. The metal rail on the avet corodes and stops functioning correctly if you crank up the drag. The water seal is better on the talica. Avets burn out their washers as well. This video is full of incorrect information...
