  • "A dialogue between a man and his Ba" is a masterpiece of the great Egyptian Literature known as Wisdom Literature (Sebayt). This thought-provoking work seeks answers to the bewildering questions,
    Is life worth living?
Should a man, whose miseries are unbearable, put an end to his life?
This text (Papyrus Berlin 3024) has been composed during the 12th Dynasty (1937-1759 B.C.).
Scholars do agree that it is a dialogue between a desperate man and his soul, Ba in Ancient Egyptian language. The text presents the earliest insights into the complexities of the human psychological structure.

Wow that was beautiful thank you soooo much for bringing that forgotten poem to be known again. That the ancient Egyptian people had these philosophical questions about life that echoes today !

Visually stunning illustration of such heart-wrenching feelings! 🧡 The book of Job comes to mind. Also, synchronistically, the words inscribed on Cio-Cio San's (opera Madame Butterfly seen yesterday) sword inherited from her Samurai father, who also died by suicide: "Death with honour is better than life with dishonour." 🙏

The belief in life after death was the mainstream of the Ancient Egyptians for thousands of years .
However there were few voices that doubted in this belief
