Most parrots will need to be rehomed in their long lifetimes. People don't realize what a long-term commitment they are. BUT- if you can care for them and love them, they may just return to you the most wonderful gift, a joy which you never could even imagine was possible.
I just lost my cockatoo far too young at 18. She passed unexpectedly. They are massive little souls.

I would just like to smack Sweet Peas’ former humans…cockatoos are a full-time bird. I’m so proud that this lovely woman scooped up Sweet Pea and that she has run of the house, her own person and a fabulous bark!!!

There are unfortunately a lot of rescues available - so you might want to watch some of the videos on what it's like to live with a parrot. I love watching them on the screen, but some have said it's like living with a permanent toddler who can gnaw away parts of your house and scream with the decibel level of an airhorn. I'll be honest, I couldn't do that for the lifetime of the bird, then find someone to take over after I die. It's a commitment.
