    That Critical Duty surprised me and did the most damage out of the 3. There have already been gun blogs/magazines reporting one stop shots with this round in 9mm. Great tests as always, thanks!

    All great rounds! The critical duty is a deep penetrator.

  • @rangetime6779
    @rangetime6779 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    An outstanding test and very relevant. All 3 performed great! You can tell the Critical Duty is more barrier blind with smaller expansion and greater penetration. For civilian use the Gold Dot or HST wins the day.

    • @CraigsPlaceOnYoutub1
      @CraigsPlaceOnYoutub1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The critical duty has the largest expansion of the group. Am I missing something?

    • @rangetime6779
      @rangetime6779 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@CraigsPlaceOnYoutub1 The Critical Duty had the smallest expanded diameter of all the bullets Not discussing the wound channel. The smaller expanded diameter allows for greater penetration because there is less surface area to push through the gel or water.

  • @mikejmardis
    @mikejmardis 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Critical duty is not meant for penetration. It’s meant to hold together until passing through “barriers” and dumping ALL of its energy into the target.
    When you mess around with barriers, you’ll see that CD consistently penetrates the barrier and dumps everything into the target. With minimal over penetration.

    I can't even remember how long I've carried those 124+Ps GDs in a G19. I just can't find a round that I'd call better enough to switch. Some pistols may feed the HST and GD better than the CD. You picked a great trio to side by side test, thank you.

    All three performed very good with the short barrel. For some reason I've never been a big critical duty or defense fan. All the tests I've been a part of in my law enforcement career gold dots and hst's always performed amazingly. I don't carry 9mm very often, but if I did , gold dots or hst would be the choice. They have good velocity and expand to the fullest. Thanks for all the tests, always something different and interesting to boot. Hope you have a wonderful day. Take care and be safe.

    • @bobjones-bt9bh
      @bobjones-bt9bh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they "performed" well? Like how? The energy levels were too low. If you shot an actual living thing with these you will probably need several more shots. you're much more likely to get a rapid stop with 100fpe more than the best round.
      if expansion and penetration are the only characteristic, at these energy levels a .45 will be the best bet as its permanent cavity will be the largest

    • @joejones1779
      @joejones1779 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I said they performed good, out of a very short barrel, they did. As I said also, I don't carry 9mm. If you do, these rounds are OK. If you want more velocity go with a +p+ or a .357 sig, or even better than that a full size handgun. But as you know, some people can't, or don't want to carry a gun that big. Or can't handle the recoil of a more powerful round. I've said in multiple responses to these videos, I really put velocity as the measurement I put the highest in my decision. Some people make their decision on expansion, some like penitration. Everyone different, and have different needs. That's all, I think they performed good. I hope this explanation helps. Have a wonderful day.

    Good thing that there is no betting in involved. I would have lost a ton of money, never imagined the Critical Duty to have the widest disruption in the gel.
    In all other tests I have seen this was more muted and did match the - giving up expansion for FBI test barrier penetration- theme.

  • @guardianminifarm8005

    Great test. Excellent ballanced comparison. All are excellent performers. No complaints with any. Very, very impressive. I got 1220s with Gold Dot, 1210s with HST out of 4.25" a few years ago. Interestingly the standard HST was just under 1200. Appreciate the side by side. I am pleasantly surprised with the Critical Duty. Well done.

    UW 124 +P+ is probably the best available rn, however i wouldn't feel comfortable carrying a short barrel 9x19 as they usually are very underwhelming in terms of ballistic energy. 4" barrel min for me
    point blank, 372fpe, 343, and 353 are anemic. At these energy levels, you're just poking holes. You get no 2ndary trauma - only permanent crush so you may as well go well down in power to a std pressure round to get better recoil characteristics. The GD +P is loaded properly, HSTs again are underloaded...a recurring theme with them in 9x19 it seems. If you're going to carry something this small, make it a .40 or .357 which do not drop down below the secondary trauma threshold in short barrels

      If I was going into the woods or gator/bear country my carry rounds may vary and there are other really good ones that I have found and everything but those are just what work best for me so far and I've tried quite a few different kinds at this point and I do my own little jug test for the hell of it lol I have some 357 mag 158 grain semi jacketed hollow points from a small company and they penetrate really deep but it still expands about as much in jugs as a 124 gold dot but it penetrates deeper it's my animal defense round in 357 mag I have some really hot 165 grain double tap stuff in 10mm that's actually full power 10mm lol but I wouldn't use it for bears due to penetration.. I think you could use a 200 grain HST in 10mm on bears and be effective but that double tap stuff is like a 165 grain hand grenade lol

  • @traumajock

    Yeah, the Critical Duty is not gonna expand huge like the other two. But it did perform as designed. I didn't know that until after I bought the 124's and the 135 grain +P version. Not bad, but I don't need to shoot through car doors or windshields. They'll ride the bench for a while, maybe I'll shoot hogs with them.
