Megavalanche Race Run Carnage 2024

- The Megavalanche is a race from the top of Pic Blanc in Alpe dhuez, all the way from to Allemond village. However this year the weather was too severe for us to be able to race from the very top of the mountain. However the wild conditions didn’t detract from how mental this event is.
Jack had a strong start in 5th, then was knocking around the top 10 before his chain came off. Losing 5 places to stop to put his chain back on, then losing another 7 places on the long climb not having the same cardio fitness as these riders at the mega (Jack has ridden his trail bike 3 times this year as he always rides his downhill bike), he managed to battle on in the lower section of the track to secure a top 20 finish in 17th place. The RAAW Madonna v3 frame, Schwalbe Tacky Chan tyres and SR Suntour suspension helped Jack to avoid any crashes while lots of riders around him slid out and crashed. The ONeal B50 double lens goggles with tear offs were also a must have in these conditions!

and who won the race. you did very well in these conditions. did you ask yourself once during the race - why am i doing this to my body why - or do you love it anyway. really bad bad track this year and a bit different, big puddles and everything got dirty and muddy. thanks for the video and good luck to you jack. greetings from germany from the eastern sea

I don't feel nearly as bad now about missing out on the main race by 2 places (my chain came off in quali before the moon rock). I had a full-on 30 yard two wheel drift coming down the ridge but at least the woods were still dry!
The speed you carried with no chain was amazing too!

Fucking INSANE. Might be my fav mega run ever. The forest section was fucken gnarly, the mud was like ice this year. Whos was that stuck in front of you for a while?

i was just on your page and you said you had retired from racing. maybe with all the skills and knowledge, the mountain of hell is too much for the lungs now. anyway good run and all the best for your school.

Given chain efficiency being higher than belt in ideal scenarios, I wonder if mud and grit quickly makes the chain less efficient. Basically, is it worth going with belt in such races?
How does n.1203 in first position in the middle of the race ( watch Olivier Bruwiere video at 14' 19" ) Did he take some invalid shortcut at 1:41 ? his final time is missing from the official finishing order, he appears to have been disqualified.
yea that was illegal cut, but i did point this out, they havent taped properly. The whole course has lazy taping which annoyed me. But apparently there are gates that you have to hit in certain areas hidden from riders.
