@@fefkvjeef I agree. I got a pair on sale for $90, which was a steal considering they have a full leather lining. One negative is they don't have Margom soles. Only time will tell how they hold up.
i bought my first pair of common project on black friday last year!.. very premium materials but God DAMN they were uncomfortable. Im looking forward to try Koio sneaks
I paid £100 for my first pair, bought them off a buyer who got them as a sample. Second pair pair around £300. Third pair in white I paid £244 and got discount from Opumo, I don’t like the white ones I will be putting them on eBay. Probably for more than I paid.
I really care for my shoes. My black ones I used sapphir cream polish on last night. I regularly use top quality products on my shoes.
Great video by the way. I really like the Koio shoes in suede which is incidentally what my first pair of CP’s were made from. I think I’ll have to get a pair of those.
How long do they last?
Robert Casas well I’m wearing my black CP’s today. These ones are around about three years old I think and they look virtually brand-new. Saying that I do have the luxury of driving to work every day although I do wear them most days so they take a bit of a beating but they look in fantastic shape. So looked after they will last for years 👍

Robert Casas yes perhaps. I try not to buy things that aren’t able to last when properly looked after. Maybe cheap cotton t shirts and underwear but anything else it’s worth buying the best quality you can afford and taking care of it so that’s why I buy CP’s for casual and Crockett and Jones for smart/work.

I own both a pair of Common projects and a pair of Oliver Cabell and the difference is huge.
The oliver cabell pair has a thinner and cheaper rubber sole which has been cut uneven and the stitching is not nearly as good as with the cp’s.
The leather is also harder and harder to break in, and has a platic feel texture. Not to say that its a bad shoe, because its a great shoe for the price. But the common projects shoe is just that much better than the Oliver Cabell shoe and in my opinion more worth it.

This is actually really true, I own a pair of Achilles and BBalls in white as well as a nude pair of OCs. The overall quality is actually very obvious.

i have the Koio Capri’s and they’re by far my favorite shoe. I also recommend the Calvin Klein Bowyer sneaker as a cheap alternative because they’re great but when you walk they are a little squeaky.
I have a quite a few pairs of CP achilles sneakers. Yes, they are uncomfortable to start with but once they break in (post 5-6 proper wears) they are really comfortable. Bought them all on sale on Mr Porter and Farfetch. Mr Porter clears them in their end of season sale between 30-60% off

I’m a loyal CP head. Own several pair. They last for years with proper care. $410.00 over the course of 3-5 years of wear isn’t a lot of money. Surprised Greats weren’t covered. A+ video.

Common Projects seem to garner a lot of hate on TH-cam but the style and details are perfect for me.
I have 3 pairs and bought them all with significant discounts, never pay full price.

Just got my Adidas Stan Smith‘s from Amazon $30. Flashback to my youth. The leather is just a little Stiff compared to what they were when I was a kid. I need to figure out how to soften them...
Have the greats royale, Oliver cabell low 1s, and the common project Achilles low. The greats are the most comfortable. The calfskin lining is cushy and supple, and the shoe is well made and doesn’t really get worn down, but they are the bulkiest of the 3. The Oliver cabells are my least favorite as they squeak a lot after a few hours of wear, are not as comfortable as the others, and crease the most. I still do wear them a lot though because all my shoes are different colors. The commons were a gift so I can’t speak on price point, which is pretty high, but the quality of the leather, the sleek design, and the durability are all obvious when you wear them. They look new after 2 years and extensive wear, and although the greats are more comfortable and less expensive, these are more versatile and badass, so the 2 really go toe to toe, excluding price. I’m excited to try the koios next.
I recently bought Hugo Boss Zeno white Leather. I don’t regret very beautiful sneaker
Try CLAE’s. They’re amazing sneakers for $140. Good fitment, good look, good quality. They give CP’s a run for their money for almost 1/4 the price.

My white CPs squeak like no other. And I’ve worn them for many months. My black pair doesn’t squeak too badly.

Johnny Fan I think I bought my black pair a few years ago on END clothing during one of their VIP sales that they do for around $250-260 USD.
New Republic-you had me at the price! Granted, I’m with you on the whole made-in-China statement, but where I am from, if you want to set yourself apart from the white shoe crowd that always wears Nike, Adidas, Vans, Puma, Erc, for 90 bucks, you can’t beat getting the New Republics. Also, the minimalism is great as well!

Well the CPs have been around for awhile. If they're really that bad then people will not buy them. It is possible that these cheaper alternatives will wear out faster. With that said, the Koios do look nice. I'm curious how they will look after a couple of months.
+@@ktroopa Never said they were "bad". CP's price is a reflection of markup not quality. They also charge more because they have to share profit with retailers (if you notice they don't have an online store). Other Italian-Made sneaker companies have the same quality but beat the prices of CP because they sell direct to consumer. Any company that puts their customers first is a winner in my book :)

I wouldn’t say that these alternatives are better than the Common Projects. I have two pairs, and those alternatives don’t compare in terms of quality and design. Even though the price is pretty high, if you’re willing to take care of them, they will last.

Try Scarosso! Italian brand with mad quality, I got the Chelsea boots over 2 years and wear it to work everyday and it hasn't changed shape or chopped sole and just got the white minimalist sneakers and that is class
Here in England Common Projects are cheaper than Koio once VAT and shipping has been included. I like the Koio very much but not only are the CP cheaper to buy, if they don't fit I can return them for free. I asked my wife who has no interest in trainers which looked better and she said the Koio over the CP.

One often overlooked brand is Mephisto. the white Mephisto Cristiano sneakers. Superb quality and materials.

My Koio's are the best hands down! Common Projects are nice but Koio's took it to another level as far as their quality for less $$. Oliver Cabell's even has a wider toe bed but the same sleek look as well. There are a lot of nice options out there for that minimalist look that won't break the bank like the CP's.
Adidas Stan Smith's in the all white colorway also works. Materials are kinda ok but affordable.

I have the common projects in grey. The biggest draw back if price isn't an issue is they don't fit wide feet. They're incredibly uncomfortable to walk in after a few hours.

So New Republic's Kurt is bulkier in Silouhette a bit compared to Common Project Achilles but cost only 1/4 the price that's not bad at all. Although it's toe box is rounded unlike Common Projects which is more pointed thus sleeker. Koio's toe box seems in between New Republic & Common Projects.
I got the new republic which looks good but feels a little uncomfortable 😣 when walking a lot. The leather good but a little stiff in the toebox area. I will be copping the Koio for spring.

Great video as always. Love your channel. The Koio also has the name on the heels. Even though it's very subtle but you can still see them. I totally agree with you that at $400 price point I would choose the Koio (or some other alternatives such as M. Gemi, Beckett Simonon etc.). However, we can find CP's on sale very often at $250 price point which is the same price point as Koio and some other brands (Axel Arigato, etc.). Would you buy CP's instead of other brands if they are on sale? Just curious :)
Good points made. CP’s are so mainstream now that they’re not my preference. I like finding off the radar brands, which is why I make so many videos about them

I suppose common project's approach is to make a pair of sneakers like a pair of derbies, and have everything the best best quality. Aside from these alrernatives i believe u can also buy cps secondhand a lot more cheaper online and clean them, not just to save money but also helps the envoirnment a little bit

Have a pair of greats Royale but always found them heavy. Picked up some new republic Kurt's. Not as premium leather but lighter on the foot and a bit more comfortable. Will see how they hold up, but if not well at least they don't break the bank. Good video. Thanks.

Marc Giró absolutely. For the surprisingly Low price the leather quality is supreme, soft, the rubber soles tough yet bouncy and no blisters. Yup, worth it!

Since I am not a brand snob and I take care of the items I purchase I have the New Republics in both White and black and no one and I mean no one has said they look cheap. The sneakers shown are for sure cheaper alternatives, but none of them beat CP’s IMO. The silhouette and detailing is far more refined. All of the alternatives miss the mark on that front. Particularly those perforated ones damn 😳

You’ll have to forgive me as I am particularly biased toward Common Projects 😉 Another brand to consider if you haven’t heard of them is Erik Schedin. Had a pair a while ago and they were great
I have a pair of mercanti fiorentini 48600’s and they are very clean, no branding, and I got them on sale for $60
The common project are 60$ shoes at most. These "Made in Italy" shoes are basically made by Chinese or 3rd world country immigrants in Italy. It ends up being the same thing as "Made in China"
I have the Oliver cabell’s, dope sneaker & the quality is amazing. Looking forward to getting my hands on a pair of koios soon!

Trevon Henry Copped a pair white lows a few months back. Oliver Cabell is fully transparent about their pricing and sourcing of quality leather. Which is a good indication of a company standing behind their product.
Not a cheap alternative but if you want something a bit more premium than CP check out the Saint Laurent Andy sneakers...tried a pair on in NYC and they are definitely a touch better than my CP Achilles

Crown Northampton is far superior to all of them! Custom made when ordered. 2nd would be KOIO tied with Good Man Brand, both are hand made in Italy from top of the line materials. My personal opinion is all 3 of those are better than CP’s but as always YMMV.

You should check out the sneakers from Greats. Went with those over the Common Projects and couldn’t be happier.
I have several pairs of greats. Their shoes are awesome
None of these sneakers beat the Achilles. CP uses Napa leather, the others just use regular leather. If you can find CPs on sale, it is a much better value than the New Republics or Cabells. Plus you can't beat the CP silhouette.

Loved the video, and nice alternatives to the steep price of Common Projects, the Koio, looked like the clear winner. Check out the brand Greats, they have the Italian leather and craftsmanship at affordable prices.
I have a pair of KOIOs but you forgot to mention the KOIO branding on the back. That's a big negative for me. Their high tops dont have the KOIO logo on the back.

To be honest the gold on the side of common projects is nice looking, BUT NOT worth the price. The cost of the Koio is something I can actually wrap my head around
I agree that common projects are expensive but they're worth the price. You would feel the difference in quality if you tried on common projects compared to the alternatives.
It's like anything. You pay for the name for the most part. But having said that, the construction and materials of the CPs is second to none.
Daniel JW do some research bro. Koio never goes on sale. Its $250 if ur in the Us. Overseas will cost u $40 shipping. U can often find a pair of CP for around $220 with free shipping.
Question for anyone: how comfortable are all of these 200 dollar range calfskin leather shoes like koio, Oliver cabell, common projects etc? I'm looking for a minimalist white sneaker to use for work where ill be walking and standing for hours every day. I understand the value of these shoes is mainly in their construction and durability which is important to me...but are they also noticeably more comfortable then a pair of vans or other similar sneakers under $100? I've heard mixed answers about their comfort.

Dover Street Market had a flash sale a long time ago...I bought 3 pairs of the original white 1528 model for $250 each. I already had 1 so I sold 2 to friends for what I got it for and have 1 left on ice.

@devanondeck I have a pair of OC and they are NOT comfortable. Compared to a pair of Santoni’s (my only other Italian made leather sneaker) which have a thicker sole - the comfort and quality of the overall shoe and leather is night and day. I saw a video comparing OC to CP where the guy cut them in half commenting on construction and materials and he basically said OC was the same for much less. All I know, is that if CPs are as uncomfortable as OC save your money. Oh and CPs are soo overpriced if they feel like the OCs in terms of comfort and quality of materials.
