    Common Projects Achilles Sneaker is widely considered the GOAT - the Greatest sneaker of All Time. So does it stand the test? I bought this pair for myself (this is not a paid post, no one gave these to me) and wore them for months so I can give you all the information you want to know about the leather, construction, sole, fit, cleaning, care, and yes, alternatives.
    AESTHETIC
    This is the simple man's sneaker: clean, sleek, streamlined, and completely, 100% white. Well, almost completely white: the differentiator is the gold foil stamp on the heel, which represents the style, size, and color of the shoe.
    Meticulously designed with smooth, white leather, leather eyelet panels, and white suede lining the inside of the heel to help prevent heel slippage.
    A big selling point is the stroebel construction: that's the fact that the sneaker is stitched and glued to the sole, meaning it's much less likely to come loose and give you those dreaded holes at the toe break that are so common in cheaper sneakers.
    RELATED: MY CHUCK TAYLOR SNEAKER REVIEW: • THE ULTIMATE CHUCK TAY...
    LEATHER
    Made in Italy, this is called Napa leather, which is renowned for being soft but sturdy. A lot of couches are actually made from Napa leather. It's also got a slight sheen to it, so it's sometimes called matte with a sheen - a contradiction, sure, but hey, these are complex shoes.
    SOLE
    This is called a Margom sole, which Gear Patrol says is "genuinely the best of the best." It's thick and surprisingly heavy, adding a nice amount of heft to these shoes. The weight reminds you as you're walking around that these are no ordinary kicks.
    FIT & SIZING
    I actually found these to be true to size. Many say to size down, but I found that I was right between a 45 and a 46, and since my true size is an 11.5 (which translates to a 45.5) I found the sizing to be right about on the money.
    Downsides are that there are no half sizes (I had to go with a 45 because there was no 45.5) and no wider widths. This is a very sleek shoe, again, so people with wider feet are out of luck here.
    They're very comfortable, though. The footbed is nice and soft and it molds around the shape of your foot as well, so the longer you wear the shoe the more it fits your foot.
    HOW TO CLEAN
    It's flat, clean leather, so it's easy to wipe clean with a cloth when it gets a bit dirty.
    When it's dirtier, use a leather cleaner like Jason Markk.
    When you get scuffs, use a white cream polish like Saphir or Kelly's.
    For the sole, use Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. Finally, some like to protect the leather with Jason Markk's Repel, which might help to slow the dirt's accumulation. Some feel that it'll suffocate the leather, though. I don't have strong feelings about it either way, but I don't use it myself.
    Also, use shoe trees with these and don't wear them every day, wear them every other day. That might sound silly with sneakers, but they're expensive. Protect your investment - using shoe trees will help them to retain their shape over time and extend the longevity by sucking extra moisture out of the shoe.
    PROS
    * Insanely cool
    * Unbelievably versatile; they go with any and every outfit
    * Stitched sole confers real longevity to the shoe
    * Easy to clean
    * Did I mention they're cool?
    CONS
    * They need more babying than your average sneaker.
    * Sizing is tricky
    * Can be a little stuffy in hot weather - it's not canvas, after all
    * Incredibly expensive

    I have a pair of these as well. My take is that, at first, they were very uncomfortable but once they were broken in after about a month, they were the comfiest shoes I’ve ever had. Also, I originally tried to protect them but at the end of the day, they are sneakers. They were used everyday in London and going to muddy festivals, so muddy in fact that the shoes were brown and couldn’t see the white. For the past year, they have been worn almost every day. Yeah they are creased but god are they comfy, and with monthly cleaning, they are still pure white. Great shoes that can take more of a beating than people think!

    A little late to the party on this one, but a lot of the aspects of these are what I like about my much less expensive P448 sneakers. I even use shoe trees with them. The pros and cons really line up: no half sizes, narrow, stitched and cemented, feels heavy and expensive, Marche-made... I don’t own a white colorway, though. Mine are grey suede with a red sole and metallic silver lining. Hard to dress up, but makes a statement enough to walk that fine line in my opinion.

    Great review! Speaking from personal experience: I own pair for almost two years and I picked them up on sale for half the retail price (they really often hit the sales). In terms of durability so far so good, in terms of comfort I have nothing to complain about. As stated in the review sizing can be tricky (they're pretty narrow shoe) I'd say go for it if u want great minimal sneakers but please do your wallet a favor and don't pay full price.

    Nick, being a white sneaker, they seem like they will require a lot more upkeep than your average casual shoe. At a price point of more than $400.00, i believe I would prefer a shoe that would develop a nice patina over time. It’s hard to imagine that a white shoe, collecting dust and dirt, over time wouldn’t look more ‘scruffy’, as opposed to developing an interesting patina. Just my opinion. You did a very nice job reviewing the shoe/sneaker and pointing out the pros and cons of this style shoe. Good job!...Ed.

    The gaps formed between ur instep/ankles and the shoes seems noticable as you were walking on 4:25, is that normal? I noticed I have similar gaps with the CP as well and I'm wearing the same size. Bear in mind I have wide ass feet and thats the only reason I went for 45s and not 44s which would be more snug at the ankles but won't fit the metatarsals.

    Hey Nick, great video as always. Was wondering, what are your top recommendations for boots to wear if you’re on your feet all day? (retail job)
    Guess I’m looking for boots that have a removable insole or are just comfortable enough for all-day wear out of the box.
    Been looking at moc toe boots like Danners Thorogoods and RW Heritage mocs as well as some other red wing models like the Rover and Work Chukka since they all have a wedge sole (if that’s what it’s called). Would honestly prefer something less bulky though.
    I’ve had Thursday Captains for a while now and I love wearing them, but unfortunately I still need more comfort for work. Think I remember you pointing out that Chippewa Service Boots have a removable insole in a video?

    I went to buy a pair of their Chelsea boots but they were way too narrow and looked like they were going to split when I tried them on. I was also unimpressed with the quality of the suede after watching many reviews saying how " buttery soft " it is. I ended up getting a pair of the Achilles Low. I haven't had a problem with the width of them strangely enough. They're certainly a cut above a pair of Adidas but whether they're worth £295 I'm not sure but I got them on my birthday so I don't really care. Next to a pair of gaudy Gucci trainers with logo emblazoned on them or cheaply constructed Balenciaga trainers at £400 and £500+ respectively, they're an absolute bargain.

    There is a lot of other companies making similar shoes. From Barker (Axel), Crown Northampton (Upton or Overstone), and Grenson (Sneaker 1) to more expensive like Church's (Boland) and even luxury brands like John Lobb (Levah).
    I am guessing that Common Projects are popular mostly in US where you don't have many heritage brands making decent sneakers.
