Nick, being a white sneaker, they seem like they will require a lot more upkeep than your average casual shoe. At a price point of more than $400.00, i believe I would prefer a shoe that would develop a nice patina over time. It’s hard to imagine that a white shoe, collecting dust and dirt, over time wouldn’t look more ‘scruffy’, as opposed to developing an interesting patina. Just my opinion. You did a very nice job reviewing the shoe/sneaker and pointing out the pros and cons of this style shoe. Good job!...Ed.
Great review! Speaking from personal experience: I own pair for almost two years and I picked them up on sale for half the retail price (they really often hit the sales). In terms of durability so far so good, in terms of comfort I have nothing to complain about. As stated in the review sizing can be tricky (they're pretty narrow shoe) I'd say go for it if u want great minimal sneakers but please do your wallet a favor and don't pay full price.
I have a pair of these as well. My take is that, at first, they were very uncomfortable but once they were broken in after about a month, they were the comfiest shoes I’ve ever had. Also, I originally tried to protect them but at the end of the day, they are sneakers. They were used everyday in London and going to muddy festivals, so muddy in fact that the shoes were brown and couldn’t see the white. For the past year, they have been worn almost every day. Yeah they are creased but god are they comfy, and with monthly cleaning, they are still pure white. Great shoes that can take more of a beating than people think!
My first pair of CP lows started to rip along the ankle after about 4 months of wear. This is probably not the norm but keep in mind that if the leather can let me down, it can let others down as well l. I was able to get a full refund and have since gotten a second pair. I also have the mids. I love the brand and cleanliness of both the low and mid.
I have both. Although I won't say they are better I believe they are a better value for your money. One thing I'll mention if you prefer a lesser "bulky" shoe go with CP as the Koio is bulkier.
For a clean-simple line shoe-I love common projects. For something a little more wild I go for Golden Goose Deluxe Brand Superstar shoes! But, I’m wild for both brands. I also enjoy seeing the size printed on the heel..just a fun little feature.
A little late to the party on this one, but a lot of the aspects of these are what I like about my much less expensive P448 sneakers. I even use shoe trees with them. The pros and cons really line up: no half sizes, narrow, stitched and cemented, feels heavy and expensive, Marche-made... I don’t own a white colorway, though. Mine are grey suede with a red sole and metallic silver lining. Hard to dress up, but makes a statement enough to walk that fine line in my opinion.
Great Review. I am 6th months in and people always comment “ new shoes?”. ......Super easy to clean. I wear them about 5-6 times a month. Shoes will last 4 years plus years easy . $100 per year , which is a normal price for shoes. I had the wolf and shepherd gliders, things are trashed after 8 months. You get what you pay for.
Hi, thank you for the video. Could you please confirm how much space you have in the toe box in the size you decided to keep? How much will they actually stretch around the toe box? Thank you
The gaps formed between ur instep/ankles and the shoes seems noticable as you were walking on 4:25, is that normal? I noticed I have similar gaps with the CP as well and I'm wearing the same size. Bear in mind I have wide ass feet and thats the only reason I went for 45s and not 44s which would be more snug at the ankles but won't fit the metatarsals.
I have a white leather pair of Greats which are pretty nice. I got them when they were still using margom soles and used to baby them until my dog chewed off a corner with one of the top eyelets. Now I have no problem wearing them anywhere!
The kavalier said that he prefers koio sneakers over these. If you decide to get more sneakers those are also an option and it would be a good comparison video . The high tops look very cool
You're probably the most sensible of reviewers out there, and you seem real honest which is a really appealing point to this channel. Pair that with the condensed yet straight forward conveyance of useful info and you've got some great vids that a lot of ppl appreciate, so thanks for the content :)

Im 8 (adidas) or 8,5 (nike) but muy leather sneakers are all 41 (oliver cabell and filling pieces brand). You think i have to go for 41 or 40. Im not a wide foot im more slim on my foot.

Beckett Simonon makes a Reid sneaker which looks identical to these and reviewers claim that it's very close in quality to these for under $150. You should give those a shot. Cheers!
yeah I saw that! it's a bit different: no eylet panels, stitching on the side, the leather is different too so I didn't include it for someone looking for something as close to CP as possible. still worth a review though!

I went to buy a pair of their Chelsea boots but they were way too narrow and looked like they were going to split when I tried them on. I was also unimpressed with the quality of the suede after watching many reviews saying how " buttery soft " it is. I ended up getting a pair of the Achilles Low. I haven't had a problem with the width of them strangely enough. They're certainly a cut above a pair of Adidas but whether they're worth £295 I'm not sure but I got them on my birthday so I don't really care. Next to a pair of gaudy Gucci trainers with logo emblazoned on them or cheaply constructed Balenciaga trainers at £400 and £500+ respectively, they're an absolute bargain.
There is a lot of other companies making similar shoes. From Barker (Axel), Crown Northampton (Upton or Overstone), and Grenson (Sneaker 1) to more expensive like Church's (Boland) and even luxury brands like John Lobb (Levah). I am guessing that Common Projects are popular mostly in US where you don't have many heritage brands making decent sneakers.
Thanks for the review. I typically wear Paul Smith's sneakers, 8UK/42EU size. What would be your recommendation sizing wise for Common Projects Achilles?
Best recommendation is to try them on in person if you can at a local retailer that has them. Im usually size US 9/42 (sometimes 8.5) and the 41 fir me perfectly with enough room to expand a little. Not too loose, not too snug. Just perfect, well fitting quality sneakers.
Hey Nick, great video as always. Was wondering, what are your top recommendations for boots to wear if you’re on your feet all day? (retail job) Guess I’m looking for boots that have a removable insole or are just comfortable enough for all-day wear out of the box. Been looking at moc toe boots like Danners Thorogoods and RW Heritage mocs as well as some other red wing models like the Rover and Work Chukka since they all have a wedge sole (if that’s what it’s called). Would honestly prefer something less bulky though. I’ve had Thursday Captains for a while now and I love wearing them, but unfortunately I still need more comfort for work. Think I remember you pointing out that Chippewa Service Boots have a removable insole in a video? Would greatly appreciate some recs lol Keep up the great work man 🤙🤙
GOAT white sneakers but it belongs in intro to menswear starter pack (i.e. CP's, CDG heart tee, skinny jeans). Bought a pair on sale 3 years ago but as my style evolved beyond the basic IG minimalist look, had to let them go to someone else!
Expensive is relative. $400 for Vibergs or a Swiss made rare movement automatic watch would be considered a deal. I also had the same initial reaction to the price but after considering all the factors you mentioned plus the added "value" of a resale market - the entry price seems justifiable relative to other luxury goods.
I bet you didn't know, like everyone else, that the leather was bad BEFORE the rose anvil video...lmao chill out this was made in November of last year.
the leathers not even bad, top grain makes sense for a shoe like this and chrome tanned means you can wear them in the rain and shit. and like any luxury good they are obviously overpriced and not worth 425$ but still no one else has gotten the silhouette/design quiet right so they still hold their place
There are reasons to pay more than Vans but $400+ is a lot given the alternatives. Got videos on Koio and Oliver Cabell coming out that are great options
I live in Italy as an American...sorry to say as far manufacturing cost in comparison to the retail cost....everyone is being ripped off. With that being said...it is a great shoe, great silhouette etc. FYI, the Tiffany's piggy bank out here is produced for less than 10 euro and sold here for 26 EURO...it is sold at Tiffany for almost 250.00 bucks. #staywokefolks
I think in 2020 I'm going to do a ton of Chelsea boots, I want to get a best Chelseas video up at some point but these things take like a year of prep haha
Stridewise excited to see your Chelsea roundup. The Thursday Cavaliers are quite nice and on the dressier side. The rubber studded leather soles don’t last in my experience, so I just got them resoled in Dainite.
Excellent review. Also worth mentioning that they are available in a wide range of colours, which adds to the versatility of the design; I have them in white and also navy. Depends what you're comparing them to, but they're not unreasonably expensive considering the quality and longevity, and in fact good value compared to others on Mr. Porter.
Forget the brainwashining, look at the heel at 21:28. The rubber sole is worn down beyond the inner line. These shoes are nearly done with after six months.
This argument always comes up. People don't realize that your usual size/brannock sizing doesn't matter. It all depends on the WIDTH of your feet. I have pretty narrow feet and actually went down two sizes, and they fit perfectly.
Maybe down the line, I think i need to stick to white sneakers for a while. I do have this article on GATs though stridewise.com/oliver-cabell-gat-vs-original-gat/
I watched it and don't really get the criticism. All sneakers are chrome tanned, veg tan leather is too stiff. I certainly wasn't shocked it was chrome tanned leather.
These are up to $400 now?! Ridiculous. I took a hard gulp and bought a pair a little over a decade ago for something like $225 and still feel a bit of buyer's remorse. Looked great and felt nice, but they still wore out the soles in maybe 2 years...
Stridewise unfortunately, I did not! Good question, though -- I imagine they could be, but it may take a skilled (and willing) cobbler to do so. I've seen Jordans with Goodyear welts, so it's definitely not outside the realm of possibility!
@@ericiidx Yeah CPs don't have goodyear welts but the stitchy constructions means it might be able to get resoled, but that's a theory thus far I haven't heard confirmed
Interesting. When you showed the soles I recognized them from a pair of Creative Recreation shoes I have. Made me wonder how many shoe companies use the same sole, never knew that. These aren't the typical CR shoes, they were their higher end ($500) short run made in Italy several years back. The shoes still look great. I'm considering some Common Projects. White and all Black. Hope I can find 'em on sale... Ha!
I should add. The stitching on my soles still looks brand new after about 8 years. Obviously I don't wear them every day, but I agree, Margom makes a hell of a sole.
@@Stridewise I think this particular shoe was the only shoe they had made in Italy using that sole. A one-off/limited run. Of their other shoes I own none have Margom sole, more akin to a Vans sole.
I know these look cool and feel very nice (the leather is very soft and high quality - almost glove like) but I can't shake the feeling that 9/10 people wouldn't notice the difference between these an all white vans if you want the white trainer look
Haha I think the silhouette and everything is noticeable. But the difference between this and the similar offerings from Taft or Beckett Simonon, yeahhhh. You have to like the brand/branding to get these
These are expensive for what they are; but they are not expensive for what they claim to be. That title goes to the Crown Northampton, which is the king of minimalist sneakers.
Dude, I think you're my spirit animal, I've been thinking about getting a pair for the past few months for summer. Pleasantly surprised to see you already have a review on them. =)
Hooray! Glad to hear it Steven. I'm doing Koio and Oliver Cabell's white sneaks too. But I want to do a lot of chelseas and bags this year too. If only I could quit my job and do more than one video a week
Have you thought about jackets too? I recently had a tough decision between waxed trucker jackets from Filson and Huckberry. Would make a great video! Also leather jackets!
@@stevendeonarain4451 Hey! I'm actually putting up a leather jacket video in a couple of weeks. I have a Filson Mackinaw too which I might do a video on when it's closer to fall. I need more jackets though, especially because I'm buying a ton of leather bags rn and I can't wear them with leather jackets or I look weird hahah
Pulled the trigger on these. Early Birthday present. With this quarantine and so so weather,, they probably won't be hitting these NYC streets for another 2 months. LOL
Wow Nick, those are not sneakers, they are limousines for the feet (I think some other company used that slogan). I would have an impossible time keeping them pristine. You look good in those joggers, wasn’t expecting that. Definitely can’t wear these sneakers with jeans that might bleed. Thanks Nick.
Actually no, they don’t go with board shorts at the beach. The sneaker looks too formal relative to shorts. CPs are made in a dress shoe factory. They really aren’t “sneakers” they are well made dress shoes that look like sneakers. The other thing is you should wear this with cotton dress socks. I learned that from the Nordstrom’s guy. Spend the money you won’t regret it.
Very in-depth review. I have a brown suede pair. My white ones are the #NewRepublicKurt which are just as good quality, but without the high price point.
Good review, gave me a bunch of new info on the brand. The Kavalier has the definitive guide on luxury sneakers. I’ve gone with Greats as my personal choice

Glad I tried out a pair of sub-$10 white sneakers before jumping into this pair; with my rugged nature/lifestyle, I would be paranoid looking down every step and second. I don't think white kicks are for me. Cheers for the excellent review - you really put out the best and most logical reviews. Love the cinematic B-rolls as well.
Sharp, classic looking sneaker that seems to stand out just enough without detracting from the rest of your outfit. I’m the opposite end of the spectrum black sneaker guy. Wiping down sneakers brings back anxious childhood memories fussing about my Jordan’s and b-ball sneakers lol. Feit has some really interesting modern minimalist takes on classic designs like this though at a higher price point. They’re hand sewn and good year constructed. Better be at their price of 600 dollars lol.

You think so? The sole seems super sturdy, I think I just drag my heel a lot. But, uh. Now I'm sweating haha
Definitely do not fit to size. 1 size down from your regular size.
I don't know what to tell you, I tried several different sizes in the store
@@Stridewise i had the exact same dilemma, im a size 42.5 - 42 was quite tight and 43 was a bit loose, got the 43 and thick socks solved the problem
This argument always comes up. People don't realize that your usual size/brannock sizing doesn't matter. It all depends on the WIDTH of your feet. I have pretty narrow feet and actually went down two sizes, and they fit perfectly.
What's your opinion on Koio?
Haven't tried 'em! They're next on the list.
Great video! Would you ever consider reviewing Margiela GATs?
Maybe down the line, I think i need to stick to white sneakers for a while. I do have this article on GATs though stridewise.com/oliver-cabell-gat-vs-original-gat/
@@Stridewise oh sweet, didn't know you had that! I do think the white Margiela's are pretty awesome
Best and simplest review of my favourite shoes. You got my Subscription bro! 👍
Thanks man! Glad to hear it.
what about koio compare to common project?
Wearing my koios in now! I'll compare in another video
You should watch rose anvil's video on these shoes where he cut through them showing the cheap materials used. Cheap posing as premium
I watched it and don't really get the criticism. All sneakers are chrome tanned, veg tan leather is too stiff. I certainly wasn't shocked it was chrome tanned leather.
Thank you buddy, I really appreciate the video! :)
Glad I could help, Javier!
Review Rancourt sneakers that are $395 made in USA
I'll look into it!
Rancourts r $295 arent they?
You should do a review the To Boot New York white sneakers. You can find it at Nordstrom too. Compare the two
I'm going to review Koio and Taft's white sneakers first I think
Thanks for sharing 👍
These are up to $400 now?! Ridiculous. I took a hard gulp and bought a pair a little over a decade ago for something like $225 and still feel a bit of buyer's remorse. Looked great and felt nice, but they still wore out the soles in maybe 2 years...
Hey Eric did you ever try to get them resoled? I'm curious as to whether they can be.
Do they still use the margom sole? I'm searching their site but they don't seem to use the word
You have to like the brand/branding to get these
Wear mine with a suit. Got more compliments on how sharp I looked and that the shoes were the key to my look!!
Finally someone who agrees with the suit look!
LOL
@@stevendeonarain4451 Haha congrats Steven!
What are those red joggers?
Zanerobe! I don't think they make the red ones anymore though :(
This sneaker can't nothing more than a let's say...all-white Adidas Stan Smith
Damn you Hubraum I specificaly referenced reasons why it's not like a Stan Smith
Wew didn't expect this review from you Nick... maybe some other white sneakers too in the future? Haha
Yeah maybe! Eugenio I'm trying to go from boot guy to uncomplicated high quality fashion guy haha but still plenty of boots in the future.
Crown Northampton twice the shoe for the same price if you don't mind a 13 week waiting list for them to be hand built 😂
Very in-depth review. I have a brown suede pair. My white ones are the #NewRepublicKurt which are just as good quality, but without the high price point.
I've got to try New Republic!
I bought the black pair and I fucking love them
Nice!
Saint Laurent Andy sneakers are better looking, more durable and more comfortable. Albeit a couple of dollars more expensive
Common projects red ?
Good review, gave me a bunch of new info on the brand. The Kavalier has the definitive guide on luxury sneakers. I’ve gone with Greats as my personal choice
Thanks Marco! Kavalier is the best, I'm getting on his podcast soon. Will get a review of Greats up eventually!
I disagree. Just like a pair of converse, these look better worn in and a bit dirty.
Can you also please review Koio Capri, Olive Cabell Low 1 and Paul Evans Carter mid- top thanks
That's a lot of work you're giving me Joey!
Even if I don´t wear Sneakers, those look nice. Won´t win against my Heritage boots, but nonetheless, nicely done! Outstanding review as always mate!
I prefer Margiela GATs
I really need to look into them! What do you like about them that's different?
They have a bit more style but are still simple. They’re also more comfortable when I compared them side-by-side.
@@limegpt Interesting! Thanks for putting them on my radar
Stridewise surprised you haven’t reviewed them. GAT lows are the same price point, are a bit more cozy and have a plethora of styles to choose from
Want a cheaper version? Buy the Lacoste Lerond
Ugh it's got that dopey crocodile on ti though
@@Stridewise Just rip that shit off and you're good to go mate
Digits on the side: in gold, to make it noticeable to others, and show you bought expensive shoes. Nice shoes though.
Pro Tip: Do not actually wear these with a suit.
Eric Faulk it's exceptional if you're young, You're not.
@@edgarcastillo7005 Your sentence is a little hard to understand. Do you mean that one can make an exception if one is young, but that I am not young?
Eric Faulk exactly.
I'm here for the nail in the wall
Hey Stridewise! We're just writing in case some of your followers want to learn how to MAKE and customize them with their HANDS....check out this SUMMER program/course in Florence STAY TUNED
watching this guy clean his shoes made me realize I need to clean my screen
Haha i've had that experience before Phil
@@philc9701 Oh fantastic! So happy you got the right size, that's always stressful especially with Common Projects. Hope you like 'em!
I mean I'd prefer 2 of my greats royales... But to each their own
Yeah I'll review them eventually, I think!
Wait isn't this the shoe I wore earlier to go to the supermarket? But in leather? And 5x the price?
they are ok but i don't think i will buy them again. the gold numbers will eventually disappear...
Very nice!!!!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Many sneakers are sewn. I have many sub $100 sneakers that are sewn.
