    I’m new to embroidering. I have a brothers movie 1400E
    Use PES
    How do I base stitch?
    This maybe an unused question but I haven’t sewn in 4 yrs or embroidered enough to understand this stitch on embroidery machine.

      Thank you for joining me here on my YT Channel. Basting in the hoop is a feature that is not included on your embroidery machine... However, I have good news! I did a quick search and I found this: help.brother-usa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/70971/~/how-to-baste-or-to-outline-with-this-machine ...You can use the single line square frame pattern as a baste in the hoop! I’m new to embroidery, I’m more of a quilter, and I’m loving it. Your design is beautiful. I’m thinking about embroidering a set of napkins as a gift. How big is the design on your napkin? Is there a standard size for napkin images? Also, what is the stabilizer you used? Thank you so much for this tutorial. It’s great!
    By the way, love your voice. I can listen to you all day!

      You are so welcome! Typically I will work with a 20" square napkin and a 4" design. For stabilizer I use one that completely washes away. My favorite is OESD Aqua Mesh. It looks like a non woven interfacing, but it melts away in the wash!

    Yes in this video you mention how to get the design to the machine I have inherited a pfaff 2144 never used. Had it serviced sews well and embroiyer well but I have gotten the download from pfaff to get going with the internet but I’m lost any suggestions they probably will help but I feel rushed when I talk to them. • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michelle Mcvown :) can you tell me what a blurby end means... & If the right side of your embroidery does not look nice, it may be that you need a “topper” to help the stitching settle neatly on the surface of the fabric. A topper is a very lightweight washaway stabilizer like Sulky Solvy. You put a piece on top of the fabric before you start embroidering

    • @michell-n5f
      @michell-n5f 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JSternDesigns you called your ends blurby so i just went with the term lol, and thank you. I tried a tear away topper and it looked amazing, until I tore it away lol.. I will definitely try the washaway next time. again, thank you.

    Hello, greetings from Indonesia. Thank you for the awesome video. May I know what is the name of the stitch on the edge of the cloth and can you share how to make it? Thank you very much..

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is a hem stitch using a wing needle. A wing needle has a flange on both sides of the shaft... Like the needle was run over by a mack truck and squished flat. When you stitch with it, it makes a hole. If you use the blanket stitch that goes forward and then stitches off to the left and back you will get this affect. Hope this helps, and sorry for the delay in responding!

    Can you put a drop of fray check on a loose thread? Would this work or not?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can... but be careful... I would check to make sure that the Fray Check drys clear and doesn't leave a "stain" on the linen. Sorry for the delayed response!

  • @saminamirza5094
    @saminamirza5094 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the tips, Jennifer! I absolutely remember your spectacular garments in the Bernina Fashion Show at the Houston Quilt Festival. My question: are there guidelines on how taut the fabric and stabilizer should be in the hoop? I often end up with puckers after it is unhooped. Which tells me it was too taut. Thank you!

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much! Hooping the stabilizer, so it's firmly in the hoop provides a stable surface for the embroidery. I don't hoop my fabric because it usually requires pulling around the edges to get it to lay smooth (stretching it out). Instead, I either use 505 Temporary Adhesive Spray or I baste the fabric in the hoop to secure it to the stabilizer.

    Thank you for all the tips and tricks! I'm a bit new to sewing/quilting and very very new to embroidery. I love making linen napkins, but I have yet to figure out how to make the beautiful border stitch to hide the hem. I see a lot of store bought napkins that have that finish, and so far, I have just used a wing needle and the heirloom stitch on my sewing machine to make an "ok" border stitch to hide the hem line, however, I was wondering if you knew how to do the border stitch on the napkins you used in the video and would be able to demonstrate that sometime. Thank you and keep up the beautiful work you do!

    Are you using a machine that uses memory cards? How are you copying the designs to the cards.?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did these monograms on my Pfaff 2170. This machine has a card reader that connects via USB to allow designs to be transferred from my computer to the machine. This is relatively old technology. I've since traded up to a Brother PRS 100 that has a USB port so I can save designs on the USB stick and opened them up in the machine.
