As a brewer fan, this was painful. Very painful… we have been losing the first round 4 of the last 5 years and it is pain… but I appreciate this video so I can put some context to this uncharacteristic meltdown from Dev. Being on the Brewer side, I did not see this tipping pitches at all. Now I get to watch the postseason from the outside and see these little things from both sides.
I got to listen to this game on the radio in the 9th inning. There is nothing like it! But to see this break down just adds to the excitement and greatness of Baseball.
Hitting a baseball is still probably the hardest thing to do in sports even if you know what's coming. Also, the Mets deserve credit for picking up on such a small visual detail to figure out what was coming. The Brewers obviously didn't make a similar adjustment to let the pitcher know.
I tried to hit a 90 MPH pitch on a really nice pitching machine once and gained a whole new respect for hitters as a casual baseball fan lol. I was proud just to touch the ball and foul it out to my feet on one single pitch lol.
I know a lot of people say coaches/managers don’t matter much in baseball but here’s a great example as to why they matter. The coaching staff picked up on the tipping and passed it on to Pete and the rest is history.
He is getting handsy when setting up the change up. Hitters can see when a pitcher uses one or both hands to set up a pitch. From the hitters perspective. You can see the see the ligaments running down the back of the pitchers hand/forearm rippling and an indent appear/disappear in the back of their wrist when they use their gloved hand to help rotate the ball. This is one of the reasons a lot of pitchers always wear long sleeves. To make this harder to spot. Problem is that when it’s a fastball he is locking his wrist and pressing into his glove using only his throwing hand to position the ball. His glove hand is going to stay flexed the whole time instead of flexing and relaxing. You see him using his gloved hand during setup, change up. Not using his gloved hand during setup, fastball.

Not the first time the Mets have picked up on pitchers tipping. They got Nola for 6 runs in an inning in September as well. But still, that 3-1 pitch to Alonso was a terrible pitch, same location as the first pitch of that at bat.
@@Beexorl I thought he tossed a beach ball up there, center cut. Had he gotten it toward the bottom of the zone maybe Pete rolls it over even if he knew it was coming.

Astros fan here and my team is done-zo, so I am fully on the Mets right now. I watched this game and just KNEW something big was going to happen. That homerun was AMAZING! So happy for this team. Was just waiting for your breakdown.
Tuned into the last three innings of this game after I saw it was somehow scoreless still. When it was 2-0 Brewers and they had 2nd and 3rd two outs, I was like "Edwin Diaz has to get this out here or it's game over." He got the out. 9th inning, I was like "Lindor has to at least get on base", and he does. Then, "If Pete Alonso homers here, the Mets need to pay him every dollar he wants", and he goes and does that. These Mets are just magical, man. Giving the same vibes as `69 and `86 here.
It's true he was tipping, but it wasn't as straight-forward as it's made out to be. Perfect example is the 1-1 FB to Lindor. If he knows it's a FB coming, there's no shot at him being late when it's right down the middle.
GREAT COMMENTARY...All through my baseball "career", I watched the pitcher warming up and shared the info with the team as a player, and then as a manager. At the major league level, they camouflage their pitches very well, and I missed the 2 points you made. Watching that at bat; you nailed it! WTF is an MLB pitching coach doing for his paycheck if he didn't see that. The overlay that you did is not rocket science and he should be fired for missing that. You can tell that Pete KNEW IT WAS COMING! He sat back and waited for it to come to him...
Damn I was hoping you'd show the brewer fans laughing in Pete's face in the inning prior for him not catching a foul ball. And then show this homer after as his sweet revenege.
Wow, great breakdown. At the beginning, when you described the differences in the pitches... it was so obvious after that to tell what pitch was coming. Good job teaching!
I think baseball is the best playoff sport, there is so much tension as you watch each pitch when the stakes are high. And the outcome of the game can completely change so fast. It is like magic.
Man, they were all over those pitches. I’d think Gary’s got to see how they were hunting those pitches and spitting on everything out of the zone and realize something was up. Williams has too good of stuff for several batters in a row to see everything coming out of his hand so clearly. Just as the Mets’ staff picked up on Williams’ tips, someone in the Milwaukee dugout has to pick up when something is off. Brutal way to go, but you love to see it. Cheers to the Mets from St. Lou
This is the first issue Devin Williams has ever run into in the majors, besides breaking his own hand at the start of last postseason. All he has to do is change how he holds the glove and hes unhittable again.
Devin Williams was missing the Strike Zone with His Fastball so Sitting on the Change-Up would be the Smart Move for the METS Batters that Inning. I think the Pressure and Nerves of that Inning May have caused Williams to exaggerate His Glove movements. We need to see Williams’s 9th-Inning Glove movements from Wednesday’s Playoff Game against the METS to Compare.
My favorite part about the livestream reaction is the little candle just gently lighting its flame while chaos ensues in the background. No idea how they didn't tumble it down and lit the whole place down.
These breakdowns are crazy of late because you never seem to use the same graphic, edit, isolation, etc. twice. And you pick up on so much. Sometimes the best part is the stuff you see in the crowds and other times it’s the actual “inside baseball” stuff, like in this video.
Alonso is a smart hitter I don’t think he didn’t really care about Williams tipping pitches He knew it was change or fastball He was waiting for something in or close to the zone And that pitch was like a gift knowing his opposite field power
1:30 it’s possible they are noticing before fastballs he takes this deep breath right before he delivers. He doesn’t seem to do that in these clips for the change up. 2:39 notice the pause then breath right here. Very visible. Has to be a fastball. And again 4:23 bang see his shoulders drop? He doesn’t do that for the changeup. You can see that right here 4:57 no shoulder drop big breath, I imagine bc he has so much to think about situating the ball in his glove he’s not thinking to exhale
Knew he was gonna do this talking to my dad on the phone live he’s always been a Mets fan and I’ve been a Yankees fan hopefully we get another subway series 😎
Major leaguers at this level eat, breathe and sleep baseball. They’re analyzing high def slow motion video, they’ve got the whole teams and scouts watching everything their opponents do, they have excellent vision and focus.. it should be no surprise they notice stuff more than the average fan can.
One of the best, most entertaining seasons of all time for the Royals. And with the best player in the league. And somehow Jomboy has only covered us once for a fight. I will be hate watching your streams as the Royals shock the Yanks man lol. Make sure to make a breakdown about it :)
Your pitch tip theory based on the glove is a reach. The Mets batters were on Williams location. Fastballs were up today. The changeup would stay belt level and sometimes dive down. That's the book on Devin Williams. Key to those ABs were location and where the ball would track. There' s an interesting graph on Williams pitch location based on his velocity and I think that's what the Mets scouting reports had on him. Just my theory.... With all that said, fun video as usual.
@@dmil843 It's not really a theory when you can legitimately see the difference in his glove position. Williams was definitely tipping pitches, but whether or not the Mets saw that is up for debate for sure.

Freakin’ awesome instant analysis by Jomboy. I was a bit skeptical until the footage of the convo with Alonso before his at bat. That was some first-rate investigative journalism! I like many was thinking that Alonso could really flip the script dramatically and damned if he didn’t do just that! Not a Mets fan but hate the Brewers. Go Phillies!!😊
I'm seriously starting to think that the Brewers are cursed in the wild card games/series to where they better pray that if they're in the postseason in future years that they get a bye
I've been following the Brewers since they came to Milwaukee and have long resigned myself to thinking they will NEVER win a World Series no matter if they get a bye or not.

5:56 is the moment of Mets fans dreams. I too am a huge Jolly fan!!
This was so fun, Jomboy. Your stuff is just so joyful and fluid. Right on.
It's true he was tipping, but it wasn't as straight-forward as it's made out to be. Perfect example is the 1-1 FB to Lindor. If he knows it's a FB coming, there's no shot at him being late when it's right down the middle.
they might not have realized until later in the inning (post-Vientos K perhaps)
As a yankee fan the Mets been fun asf to watch this week, was glued to my seat anticipating a 9th inning rally
Also a Yankees fan and I've wanted a Phillies vs Mets series since I saw they got the slot to play Milwaukee
Also a yankee fan but why do i like the mets so much?
@Bstackz55 As a Royals fan, my condolences in advance for what’s going to happen to the Yankees next week. Well, not really actually, LET’S GO ROYALS!
@@Johnfisher12345 my condolences for your delusions, you didn’t even believe that while you typed it
@@Johnfisher12345 My condolences for your hopes and dreams being crushed. Comment aged like milk
Willy Adames is in the parking lot while Jesse Winker is celebrating in the locker room
Loved Winker on the Nats this year. He really turned his career around.
Willy Adames going to visit his friend Wander in prison
That's real 😂😂😂😂
Adames will get over it soon. He has a FAT payday coming.
that's funny
Fun game to watch as a baseball fan not rooting for either team. Starting pitching was outstanding, and the last few innings were exciting.
Wow, great breakdown. At the beginning, when you described the differences in the pitches... it was so obvious after that to tell what pitch was coming. Good job teaching!
This Phillies/Mets series is going to be epic! First time these two rivals face off in the NLDS?
That's an easy fix. I would not be surprised if Mets hitters let the Brewers catcher know that beforehand...your pitcher was tipping pitches!
He screwed up in the playoffs previously that costed the Brewers.
i dont buy that Mets' batters were able to see that incredibly small difference.
He always chokes in big moments
@@Falcons8455they weren’t. This is a delusional cope from brewers fans.
Great analysis. I don’t remember D. Glanville mentioning tipped pitches during the broadcast. Good 411.
Surprised we haven’t seen anything on the Tigers yet with the crazy run they’ve been having a revolutionary pitching approach.
Not only some amazing breakdowns and hilarious... but the radio voice is perfectly fit
Man, if TH-cam and Jomboy had been around when I was a kid, I might have turned into a baseball fan.
😮 that was fast!! 💨 thank you!! LGM!! Nice save on the Corona bottle in that amazing Jolly celebration. 🎉
I've never seen Frank the Tank as happy as he was at the end of this game.
You guys reignited my passion in baseball and it’s videos like this that highlight the reasons why. Thank you boys.
i love Jomboy media bruh got the best breakdowns fr👏🏾
As a brewers fan i gave this video 2 weeks before i watched it and now im hurting all over again...
This Mets season has been utterly unreal. I can’t believe my eyes over and over. However based on Martes swings I’m not so sure they had a tell
My favorite part about the livestream reaction is the little candle just gently lighting its flame while chaos ensues in the background. No idea how they didn't tumble it down and lit the whole place down.
the green over red glove comparison 🥲🥲 no one does it like jomboy fr
These breakdowns are crazy of late because you never seem to use the same graphic, edit, isolation, etc. twice. And you pick up on so much. Sometimes the best part is the stuff you see in the crowds and other times it’s the actual “inside baseball” stuff, like in this video.
Thank you! Try to let them take me wherever they go
It's so nice to see Jomboy is aware there is another baseball team in New York.
Jolly was screaming like Daniel Stern in Home Alone 😆
lol true
David Stearns was also screaming in the clubhouse.
“I’m a Jolly fan” hell yeah we are
Alonso is a smart hitter
I don’t think he didn’t really care about Williams tipping pitches
He knew it was change or fastball
He was waiting for something in or close to the zone
And that pitch was like a gift knowing his opposite field power
1:30 it’s possible they are noticing before fastballs he takes this deep breath right before he delivers. He doesn’t seem to do that in these clips for the change up. 2:39 notice the pause then breath right here. Very visible. Has to be a fastball. And again 4:23 bang see his shoulders drop? He doesn’t do that for the changeup. You can see that right here 4:57 no shoulder drop big breath, I imagine bc he has so much to think about situating the ball in his glove he’s not thinking to exhale
Nice breakdown Jimmy.
Weird to see you jumping around for a Mets W. But that was nice of you to be happy with your bud.
Jomboy shoutout from Kornheiser on PTI just now. Our boy is big time
Knew he was gonna do this talking to my dad on the phone live he’s always been a Mets fan and I’ve been a Yankees fan hopefully we get another subway series 😎
This video and Jomboy are getting shoutouts on ESPN, first Around the Horn and now on PTI
I’ve been watching Devin Williams all year and I don’t think I ever would have noticed this tell
Major leaguers at this level eat, breathe and sleep baseball. They’re analyzing high def slow motion video, they’ve got the whole teams and scouts watching everything their opponents do, they have excellent vision and focus.. it should be no surprise they notice stuff more than the average fan can.
yeah it usually is hard to catch while you watching live and not looking for stuff.
@@Johnfisher12345 the only thing that confuses me is how teams hadn’t been using this earlier
Yeah. The “tipping” theory is a huge reach here.
@@dmil843 It's not really a theory when you can legitimately see the difference in his glove position. Williams was definitely tipping pitches, but whether or not the Mets saw that is up for debate for sure.
Although I’m not a fan of either team I do love watching the game of baseball. This video is an amazing piece of work. Congrats to the gentleman who did it. Great game for sure. One heck of a finish. As a O’s fan I feel your pain Milwaukee fans. Tough way to end the year
1:18 These are differences that the astros can see on their screens in the back to know what's coming. 😉👌
In addition to the glove being held higher with the fastball, he also wiggles his hand and arm when throwing the changeup which they probably noticed.
Greatest game I've ever witnessed as a Mets fan. Genuinely don't know how we pulled it off, but holy mother of fuck am I glad we did. Ya gotta believe!! (And build Pete Alonso a fucking statue!)
You did nothing but play the Brewers who always fuck up the playoffs and will always do so.

Probably your best breakdown yet Jombie
Freakin’ awesome instant analysis by Jomboy. I was a bit skeptical until the footage of the convo with Alonso before his at bat. That was some first-rate investigative journalism! I like many was thinking that Alonso could really flip the script dramatically and damned if he didn’t do just that! Not a Mets fan but hate the Brewers. Go Phillies!!😊
I loved the percantage win change for mets during this inning!
Did not expect the Sydney Swans top. Well done right there mate.
It’s more about the extra movement of his hand than the placement of the glove.
the red and green glove graphic was so great thank you for that
I'm seriously starting to think that the Brewers are cursed in the wild card games/series to where they better pray that if they're in the postseason in future years that they get a bye
I've been following the Brewers since they came to Milwaukee and have long resigned myself to thinking they will NEVER win a World Series no matter if they get a bye or not.
They are cursed 100%. I think every team they lose to makes it or wins the world series too. How is that not a curse?
I'm from NH and have always been a Brewers fan. That was heartbreaking last night. My jaw dropped on the home run.
Jomboy is amazing with these breakdowns
These breakdowns are REEEEDICULOUS!!! Bro you are so good! 👍👌 I’m not much of a sports fan, especially not baseball, I mean, I love it all but I just have other interests, …but the incredible way you present this crazy shit is cool as hell. It gives me great experiences. Seriously… I just enjoyed that so damn much, had to thank you 👍 Especially this one, the way you flashed back after the home run, lip-reading and guessing what guys might be saying, while also being fairly humble and honest and saying you can’t be sure… just well fucking done man!!! Thanks for the insightful entertainment 👌😁
