    Finally someone reviews these with proper wear. Most of the videos on TH-cam, it’s just so guy who wears them around the city. Instead of for work our outdoors stuff. To me, these aren’t fashion boots. These are old school work boots, so they should be reviewed as such

      Red Wing will tell you when you go into the store that the heritage line are not for work. I get what you mean but they literally have a WORK line of boots that is completely different than the heritage. They are fantastic and you can work in them since they are tough... but they are quite literally not work boots and not in the actual work line that red wing makes lmao@@Rokaize

    I bought a pair of IR Hawthorne Muleskinners this past weekend. I was on the fence about whether to keep them, how to maintain them, what the roughout might look like once it gets dirty. I appreciate you stating "This is what MY boots look like..." This is very important to consider since you wore yours every day. Mine will look totally different since I will not wear them daily, live a more sedentary lifestyle, plan to try to keep them clean, etc. Your review has persuaded me to keep them. Your IRs look well loved. Thank you!

    • @stevej.6674
      @stevej.6674 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude, they look better with some wear! Even if you want to keep them for a more “sedentary” life style. Think of how raw denim jeans become more awesome with each wear & fade that develops. That’s how these boots go. It gains character. A brand new looking boot is boring and characterless!
      I’ve tested mine like sh!t for ages and they’re looking so cool!
      Ooh, just a quick FYI, I treated/nourished them from the “INSIDE” with my own dubbin concoction made with tallow, lard, lanolin and a few drops of tea tree oil as an anti microbial. Then I put them out in the sun hear the boot up & allow the stuff to soak in. DONT use stuff with neatsfoot oil which will oxidise inside the leather fibres and literally break down the fibres.

    I love this boot. Had mine, now, for a couple years, and they're not my only boots. I've been dying to have a grippier, softer sole since day one. Personally, if it's an uncomfortable sole to walk in and it makes you slip and fall, it's not the right sole. So my IRs get worn in the garden, yard, or out in the woods but not hiking. When the time comes for a resole, I'm going to go with vibram honey lugs... for tread and softness.

    Great to see another video from you! The boots are looking good.
    For me, the heels are always replaced once or twice before I get the outsoles replaced on the heeled boots I own.
    If you want to resole them with something grippier and soft, but still want the lugs and some longevity go for the Vibram 132 commando lug sole (as used on the red wing 4585 and the 4556's) - They come in black, brown and a honey wheat colour. You could also go super soft and get some Vibram gumlite or vi-lite soles instead. Also, don't forget to have a leather midsole slapped on there and the cork refilled!

    • @hell0all

    • @Tharification
      @Tharification 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hell0all You welcome - Thanks. I would say a filler is definetly needed, as a goodyear welt creates a void between the midsole and the insole. But if you are iffy about it being cork, just have the cobbler replace the cork with a piece of veg-tan leather instead - Most good cobblers should be able to do this.

    Depending on what you want from a resole, even the current state of these boots is a good time for a resole. lots of options availbel that would be better than the stock soles. I think Dr. Soles is a good option, but Vibram has some good options if you want more rugged to be sure.

    My recommendation for the first resoling is usually to add a leather midsole and to check whether the insole/footbed needs replacing. I also usually advise to occasionally once or twice a year to condition the insole/footbed since that slab of veg tan experiences a ton of wet/dry cycles and once the top layer dries out and cracks wearing can become a pain…

    Great video. If you ever want updates/upgrades to your RW's, check out Aaron at Revive Shoe Repair. Excellent Red Wing work, and you can see it on his TH-cam channel.

    I went to the local Red Wing store and tried on IR's - no dice for me! Went home and ordered Truman Boots for not much more $. Very happy now. IR's are good, but there are much better options that are local American companies and not corporations. I love my Trumans!

      Did you get the coyote rough out model?

    • @fessendenful
      @fessendenful 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ike780 Yes, a pair came up on ebay. They are a couple years old (although barely worn) and have the black half lug sole. Also, a bit more orange than tan. I'm saving up for a new pair, either a plain/soft toe pair of Trumans or the Nick's AL64. Not sure what leather. My other boots are Allen Edmonds which I got on sale for around $200. Nice, but obviously not in the same league as Truman or the Spokane companies.

    For the price, they can add a leather midsole.

    have the same soles on my blacksmiths. In my opinion they are much too hard to walk on pavement. It hurts thge joints.

    I hate that sole. I resoled mine with Vibram Montagna immediately.
    Love the Iron Rangers but absolutely hate the sole Redwing uses.

    Can't justify over 300 for a mid tier boot. With Whites and Nick's having much higher quality and entry level shoes like Thursday it's just not ideal for me. Always wanted a pair but not for 300

    Check out Wyatt and Dad Cobblers, they have Dr. Sole’s now which are much softer and grippier, they can also do a logger sole with super cool or stacked leather.

    Thank you so much for the video. I have been more convinced that the iron ranger is NOT the boot for me. In between the sloppy / loose fit and the dangerously slick sole, these boots are a complete waste of $350. They look pretty, however they are less functional than a screen door on a submarine. The way that these clunky bricks make it difficult for your to shift gears looks absolutely cumbersome too. Thank you for saving me $350.

      If you want a boot to last you forever through daily use in a shop or however you’d use it with little maintenance. These are wonderful. If you’re looking for a comfortable boot for hiking. These are not for you.
