My daughter and I really love this channel. She’s obsessed with shoes and her number one idea of daddy daughter time during the quarantine is to watch “The man that cuts the shoe”. She’s 4, and is mind blown at each and every cut shoe reveal. I really love the leather and construction commentary, as a life long wearer if work boots. Keep up the good work.
I’m in the construction field; my Red Wings are 10+ years old, been rebuilt numerous times, drenches cut etcetera; they fit and kick like new boots. It’s all about taking care of your feet, back and body. My boots are my most important tool.
I used to work at the red wing plant, on the line that made all the iron rangers and heritage boots. The amount of work it took to make the copper rough and tough iron rangers was nuts. Still. There's a reason red wing is such a popular brand.
@@Gobraves777I have pair around a year now, think they look great, comfortable ON the foot, kills your legs quick though, walking on pavement zero shock absorption. Horrible in the heat, sweat like a pig, freeze in the cold, soaking wet in the rain, slippery on quite literally anything wet and wearing them in winter is basically gambling the durability of your bones every step. Make your legs crazy sore way to fast, useless in loose ground like sand, slippery on grass if you have to go downhill, uncomfortable on everything but dry dirt pretty much. I will be getting heavy lugs on them come next spring so they are not completely useless and be comfortable / safe enough for yard work etc. Unless you want a boot that isn't very nice looking for the office or a boot to walk through flat DRY grassy areas in the fall, they are pretty fucking useless.
I bought a pair of those boots (without the toe cap) forty-six years ago, and still wear them, cutting trees, building houses, repairing boats, etc. I bought a pair of Redwing cowboy boots in 1967, and they still look good. The secret was liberal applications of neatsfoot oil.
The heel counter is actually a material called Robus which is ground leather mixed with resin rather than fibre board. Much better than leather in my opinion because it allows it to be formed and it will hold its shape much longer. Leather counters will eventually get soft from perspiration and will soften over time.
I've worn red wings for years. and the past 8 years have been iron rangers.. my first pair I waited too long to resole a 2nd time, so they were beyond repair.. my current pair is 3 years in, just resoled them a month ago with vibrant heavy tread.. I wear them 360 days of the year, and on work days up to 18 hours.. great boot and will be a life long customer to redwing. Not to mention, I'm a native Minnesotan!
@@kdtool9437 no need to get after market insole, the leather insole will mold to your foot after wearing them a couple weeks. Especially if it's hot out
Ryan Douglas And that’s enough? I have a pair of Johnston & Murphy boots, probably worn them 40-50 times (only to church) and I’m starting to think I need an insole. They are super comfortable to put on but aren’t that great for walking.
@@kdtool9437 you do not need insoles. Actually comfortable insoles takes away from your foot muscles and strength and makes your feet weaker. These veg tan leather insoles will mold to your foot and it will be nice and comfortable. I never have an issue breaking in these boots. Now, on cheap shoes, with man made materials on the foot bed you will need insoles.
I had a paper route as a kid and my cat followed me along the entire route. She stayed about 50 feet behind me and sometimes I wondered if she had left, but there she was, watching me behind a bush, wondering what the hell I'm doing.
as a redwing employee this pains me just a little bit i own that exact pair and they are an amazing boot!!!! id like to see a supersole 2.0 or a burnside cut in half next... great video btw !!!! keep it up
Redwing reached out to clarify a few things, here is what they said about the 270 welt. “3/4 welts can be re-heeled without removing the whole sole. Also called Nail-seat construction. Check out the 11 holes in the heel. Each one gets a nail (or two). If you look inside the boot, you’ll see a piece of leather (Veg tan insole/heel) covering those nails.”
@@scarea2691 How would they do that? I have a bit of affinity for those types of boots, an old friend who is no longer with us gave me a pair of his old army style boots (think Vietnam war era type boots) I was wearing them while checking out an old house with a relative who was thinking of buying and rebuilding it, at the time I didn't realize it but I caught a nail in the sole of the boots. It was a while later and I noticed every time I was walking in them something sharp was just barely hitting the bottom of my foot, I thought I had a rock in my boot, shook the boot, nothing fell out, put them back on and in a few steps the sensation was back, stuck my hand down in the boot and felt something, but wasn't sure what it was, turned it over and a naill was pushed into the sole of the boot and was just barely hitting the bottom of my foot. Had I been wearing anything lesser that was a nail through my foot, every since I have preferred a nice meaty boot.
I bought a pair of these like 7 years ago with the old cork sole. A friend of my grandfather was a bootmaker in his early days and when he saw them he had nothing but positive things to say. Went on and on just looking at them saying how well made they were and how they'll last a lifetime. He pointed out all the things you said in the beginning. I've been very happy with them, and I prefer the old sole to the vibram mostly for the classic look and feel to it.
Just brought myself these , I remember seeing this video come out and thinking I need these in my life but could never afford them until now and just brought my first pair today .
I’ve never cut one in half, but I wore 3 pair of Red Wing shoes in my life-I’m 74-and they’re the best damn shoes I ever owned. Even the repair services are high quality (the boots literally came back looking like new). The hell with “American Made,” these are the best boots made, period. And they only get better with age!
Best boots made? Have you ever heard of the Pacific Northwest? They make the best work boots in the world up there. These redwings are like doll shoes compared to them
I got a pair of Red Wing steel toe for college graduation (construction management major). I finally got to use them about 3 years later when I took a field assignment. I wore those boots daily for 2 and a half years. They're painful to break in, but once you do they get comfortable and last a long time. I'm back in the office now, but when I need to wear those boots, they're still amazing nearly 8 years later.
Because Iron Rangers do not have a synthetic tongue or cuff, they were ideal for when we used to burn the stubble and the oiled leather withstood the heat and flames for hours. Guys were always amazed when the bottom of my Levi's caught alight that I could put them out by just rubbing them against the other leg of my jeans with my boots. To me, using synthetics in work boots is crazy. I wonder if the people who design a lot of the boots ever wear them for any form of rough work. Would you expect your work boots to be reasonably fireproof.?
This video has lead me down a rabbit hole that has now turned into me making a 40 mile trek to the closest red wing store that carries the classic line and getting a pair of the iron rangers. It all started with this video and there are no regrets to getting them. It's weird how much more I care about boots now that I've seen the videos you produce.
My iron rangers are 16 months old and still going strong. No bad break ins either. The sole has moulded to my feet for a real custom fit. The patina they acquire over time is beautiful! A lot of people say the break in period is hard. I found that if you wear them in the house for a few hours a day for a week then go for some shorts walks outside the following week then you will be good to go. Get the Redwing oil cream for keeping them in shape every few months just to keep the leather hydrated and you will perfect!
I have those exact boots and love them. Thank you for the detailed breakdown. Knowing how much goes in to them makes me appreciate them that much more.
I would love to see some Danner boots. I’ve been eyeing the Mountain Lights for over a year now but haven’t been able to justify the cost. Thank you for bringing objectivity into purchasing decisions, it’s what the world needs!
My Mountain Lights are roughly 15 years old and have been rebuilt by Danner twice. They are heavy, strong and very comfortable when hiking. Since they have been rebuilt twice and there is not quite enough leather left to do a proper resole, so I too am shopping for another pair. And the only thing light about the Mountain Lights is the name. There are a few places that have them on sale for $200 to $250. Probably new old stock or returns. I also wore Red Wing 2233's for 30+ years for work. This was not one pair but about 10 pair, I took very good care of them too, so each pair would last for several years. After I retired, I gave St. Vinnies 7 pair and kept the newest for me. I would always add a pair of sorbathane (sp?) insoles just because.
I bought my iron rangers in 2009 , I have wore them all over Europe , walked around Prague , Venice , Krakow . I wore them in a walk from Cambridge u.k to my home town , 17 miles in one hit . Now blisters or sores . The best boots out there and huge fashion icon .
Just watched this but bought my Iron Rangers in 2015, and still have them. I wear them nearly every day and have done everything in them, to include rock climbing. I have the original smooth sole on them still, and never had a problem with them except for when I was on ice. The smooth grip is a lot better than most May think. Really grabs rocks, and is very comfortable
By far the best review of the IR. Thank you. Oh, also, I just had my first motorcycle crash two weeks ago - my Iron Rangers were completely un-phased, and they are already 6 years old, with near daily motorcycle use. Such a tough boot, love them.
Had a similair pair from redwing for about 12 years, the nails came through at one point but the heel sole was able to be replaced and it was fixed. Replaced the sole a couple times and had the toe caps and a tongue replaced. Wore them till the whole body just began to wear through.
I stopped buying Nike and Reebok about 15 years ago. I started wearing Saucony and my back, legs, and feet have thanked me every day since. Nike has become overpriced garbage.
11:45 Yes! The nails came through and caused bleeding on my foot or feet eventually. It was on Whites Firefighting boots and they fell apart in a way the next year. I carried a lot of weight though. I still wore them but put the insole back in, they lasted me 2 years.
I think whites are very good, and TOP TIER. But most people couldnt beleive they only lasted me 2 years until I told them the circumstances. I bought another pair eventually and these I actually take care of. My coworkers said Nicks boots were a bit better though.
@@84DavidM777 White's was bought out in 2014 by the same company that bought out Danner in Portland. ABC something, and it's a fashion label that bought a work boot company.
@@QuartBernstein311 my first Whites boots, wich broke, were bought WAY before that in like 2007. My current Whites boots, which I love, and i havent used firefighting, are still going strong 6 years later and fit like a dream and look absolutely gorgeous in black.
I finally got a pair 2 weeks ago and I'm very impressed. I've worn American made Danners for years. Sometimes I've worked 12 to 14 hours in my Danner Acadias and I love them. These Red Wings are quickly becoming my favorites. I guess I'm lucky. I didn't have any problems whatsoever breaking them in. The fit and finish is great and they're molding to my feet better everyday. Highly recommend the Iron Ranger.
I saw you cut in half my dream boot, and it was physically painful, but now I want them even more that I did before cause now I'm sure they do are the real deal! Anyway, amazing video ✨
I've been waiting and hoping you would review a pair of these! Back in the 90's my dad gave me a hand-me-down pair of his when I was about 14 that he wore to work everyday for over 5 years. I then wore them for probably the next 5 years when I eventually started outgrowing them a little and absolutely loved them. I'm about to have a son of my own and I just ordered a pair with the intention of one day handing them down to him. Thanks again I love your channel!
I can't stop watching. I want to learn how to make leather shoes and maybe open a shop. I'm kinda old to get started but I've been taking apart my wingtips since I started watching a few days ago. Its almost like I was born in the wrong century. My uncle is a carpenter who made his own leather boots a few years ago so it can't be that tough, just tough to make a living and moreso a name for yourself. Keep up the amazing work on all fronts, I'm a big fan is you as a person and all you seem to do.
If I remember right, red wing uses steer hide in particular for their leather. My dad is a pipe fitter on steam lines, and has sworn by redwings for years, I wore them when I was working a loading job as well. Amazing boots
I am a retired Oregon Land Surveyor. I have worn Redwing's my entire career. The model that I had worn 'forever' (45 years) is no longer available. It was similar to the Iron Ranger, but had a full Vibram sole. I up-sold myself to the Smoke Jumping Certified boot. Best pair of boots I have ever worn. Very COMFORTABLE!
saw this after buying a pair of these for work. After watching the video, I think I made a good choice of boot and glad I bought them. Thus far (about 2 months in) they're very comfortable and feel very durable.
it's really helpful understanding what is a good, durable and comfortable work boot - there just isn't enough info about this and it's critical for those of us on our feet all day. Would love to see some other work boots like Ariat, Wolverine, Justin and my favorite, Rocky. None of these are particularly high-end, but it's what people in the trades generally gravitate to....
These are great boots. They are not great work boots. They do not have a safety toe, they have no cushion, they are a natural leather so you must let them dry if saturated with water. A shoe tree is important. I wear them as a construction inspector, but if actually did labor i wouldn't pick these.
I can see the nails (x2 little bumps in the leather) in one of my heels and I can feel them with my fingers, although they don't bother my foot. Got that new pair of boots after watching your videos! I looked around town for good quality boots. That was a trap! Got a pair of 650€ Heschung boots, I just could not believe how better good quality footwear can make you feel in day to day life. Looking forward to keeping them for 10+ years.
i love my iron rangers, I've had them for a year now and they are still going strong. hands down some of the best boots ever!! im usually a size 9.5 and i had to get a size 8 so size is definitely a factor in buying a pair. but i highly suggest picking a pair up. if you live in canada like me they might be a bit hard to find but the best place to go in my opinion is Hubert's boot store they have a huge selection. thanks for the great video and keep up the good work
Are there any "SAIL" outdoor stores around you? There are five Red Wing models available at my local dealer. I wear a 10.5 sneaker and went down to a 9 Ranger myself. I want a pair of the Copper Rough and Tough Rangers now.🇨🇦
How are they holding up? I'm looking to buy a pair. I'm only a student living in a colder climate so this would be an investment for sure. Wondering if it will be worth my money, as I too want them to last at least five years. Was that of daily wear?
They are holding up fantastic and I’m pretty hard on them. They definitely aren’t a cold weather boot just an FYI, zero insulation other than the leather. And they aren’t good for slick, or snowy conditions. Good luck!

On the plus side, I'd always assumed Redwing was some pretentious brand like all the others - but now I want a pair. And more people that buy them, the longer they can make good boots for.
@@goldcd they kind of are pretentious. Iron Rangers require a much longer and uncomfortable break in period than comparable boots like Chippewa, Danner or Thorogood. Their welt quality has gone down a lot in recent years to the point where they're mostly just fashion boots. I haven't bought a pair to use as work boots in years.
My oldest pair of Redwings have been rehealed now 4 times and on the last reheal one of the nails broke through and cut into my foot. 8 years of solid wear to get to that point though. So yea on an old pair you definitely can feel the nails through the sock liner.
Sock Liner is a wear item and should be replaced every other set of heels. Be sure the cobbler knows to skive the front edge of the liner down thin so it doesn’t cut your arch in half.
I have that same pair of boots 🥾 and I absolutely love them!!!! Ive been wearing my Iron Rangers for about a year as a dress boot and they still look phenomenal!!!! I’ve been wearing Redwing boots for 25 years!!!! These do run a little big as mine are a half size down from the normal size I normally wear.... They aren’t cheap but I have no complaints at all and highly recommend them....
Have worn these for 5 years and they are incredible. The sole still hasnt worn out completely but I might resole them soon. They're warm in winters (until below -5 deg C) and very comfortable to walk long distances in once broken in. Very very good boot.
Awesome video. As someone who owns a couple pairs of these I enjoyed it. You should do a pair of Red Wing Moc Toes in the future. 'CJ Cook' is the channel to check out if you like Red Wing Heritage boots.
I definitely recommend trying to find your nearest Red Wings store to try them on. The staff is always super helpful and they'll measure your feet with a Brannock device to ensure you get the best fit. I got the moc-toe style 875 Heritage boot and they recommended an entire size DOWN. I usually wear 10 to 10 1/2 and the 9 ended up being the best fit. Go figure!
I received my first pair of Iron Ranger boots today. Oxblood color. I normally wear a 14D but these are 13D. I think they’ll be fine. I’ve had them on all day. Thanks for a great channel.
I purchased my Red Wing Iron Ranger in 2010 because it was recommended by some friends, and because it is American-made and I wanted to support American labor. At the time (I've since retired) I was serving as a U.S. Army Special Forces company commander on deployment. Because we were deployed and have the opportunity to use a variety of kit, I took my Iron Rangers with me and used them in all kinds of environments, to include three airborne operations with our host-nation special operations partner unit. The boot's performance was excellent and did not disappoint. Of course, I had given it a month to break-in. For jumping, I had to tape the top of the boot because the steel lace hooks there can easily get caught up on the parachute guide lines during the opening shock of the parachute (which could be bad). Other than that, these boots are combat and training approved as far as I was able to put them through the ringer.
i've used redwings for most of my professional career, when i got my first set i was in love, 2 or 3 pairs later things started to change for the worse, they were getting uncomfortable and took forever to break in, if they ever did at all.. I tried again hoping it was just that pair, and same issue. RedWing was clear that my only option was to return them.. so i did and have been using Boulet and have that same feeling i had 20 years ago when i got my first ever redwing boot
These have been my main work boots for near two years and I've worn them basically into the ground, beat the hell out of them, and with the work I do they've consistently been wet/dry/wet/dry/wet/dry... some scratches aside, Leather is still in fantastic shape after the hell I've put them through and they now ready for their first re-sole.
That's a nice looking boot!! I live 30 min from Red Wing, MN. My only memory or red wings was as a kid. We had red wing shoe stores in a lot of the small towns I grew up in Wisconsin. Anyways one day as a kid my shoes were junk and the school told my dad I needed new ones and so he brought some new redwings. I looked at them things and felt embarrassed that I didn't get something like Nikes. I was pissed and think I got upset with him. Now looking back he probably actually spent something on them, one thing you must know about this situation was I grew up poor. Now that I look back on this moment I feel bad I acted that way I was probably 8 or so, he died when I was 20. I would love to own a pair of redwings now as an adult; their construction is amazing. Another thing my uncle worked for Weinbrenner in Marshfield his entire life retired 5 years ago and got quite the retirement package. I love this channel love the sound of the letter being cut. Wow did that boot come apart hard that band saw struggled!!
I'm in France and I bought these shoes about 5 or 6 years ago. I wear them most of the time. They are still in good shape and they have not been resoled yet. I also have another pair of Moc Toe from RedWings and they are also amazing, even after being resoled. Both these shoes are a bit pricy, but they last ten times longer than these craps you can buy made in china. I point out that we have in France several brands that make very high quality shoes, eg. paraboot, Le soulor, la botte gardiane..., and they can be very pricy as well, even more sometimes than a pair of redwings. Cheers and thanks for the video.
@ Jeremy. Have had my IR now for 5 days, my right boot has developed a squeak, seems to be in sole, heel, or shank area, a complete guess though. Have you experienced this?
@@Jeremy_ab_ca ok. Thanks. My local Redwings store was nice about it when I called, said the same thing, said monitor it for a week or so and if it continues to bring them in. Saddens me to think about possibly being without them. Was hoping it was just normal due to break in and would go away? I’ll sit tight for a week or so and go from there. Thanks for replying back.
Just purchased my second pair of redwings today, first pair of iron ranger. The build quality is amazing, the craftsmanship alone makes it worth the tag price. A lot goes into building just one pair of boots.
Greeting from Indonesia, I have couple pairs of heritage boots and these is my favorite. Own it for like almost 10 years and these wrap my feet really good and comfy, I got the flat cork sole version. Love your channel!
I've been impressed by the Red Wing "experience". I got the Burnside Boot for work. I've actually only needed to wear them a handful of times, because it was a rule you had to wear them in the shop. I was working in an office, at that time. The boots are very comfortable, and light, since they have a composite toe. The salesman told me I can bring them in once per month for cleaning and conditioning. I'm pretty sure they weren't charging for that, at the time. They just seem very well made, and, yes, although I've never been strict about the "MITUSA", as you refer to it, I did really like that they were made in America. Sure, you pay a premium for that, but they seem to be, totally, a case of getting what you pay for. In short, great boots, great company. 👍
I love these boots and I agree with you, I really like seeing all the different imperfections in the leather. I think one of the biggest aspects of true leather is that natural look, so I really enjoy that. As far as the clown shoe look, I also never really saw that in my boots, I now own two pairs of these - one for work, one for style - and they really look great, no bulbous feel at all. Also, last point - Triumph bikes are awesome brother.
I'm a truck Driver , I only own Red Wing shoes ( one pair work & the other pair dress .. kinda ) . If My work shoes ( don't know what model ) was black instead of brown I'd look a lot like Frankinstine ! But , I don't really care , My feet swell , and they're comfortable ! ( besides they last Me 8 to 10 years , cause I don't walk far in them )
As a Brit, I don't care where Red Wing boots are made, but I'm happy to pay up for workmanship wherever it originates from, UK US Argentina, Australia or even China. These boots are a quality US product, and your channel does a great job of explaining what makes a great pair of boots!
I bought a pair of these about when this video came out (unrelated to this video's release, I was never a boot guy) and I currently only own 2 pairs of shoes, these, and a pair of Nike slides I put on to go outside and smoke. The next pair of shoes I want is just another pair of these to only wear when I know I can keep them clean and keep my old ones for walking, hikes and bar excursions and other mischief. I love these shoes.
As someone who owns a pair of these exact boots and the blacksmith version (no toe cap) this solidified all the shit I’ve talked on friends trying be trendy with docs or save a buck with Thursdays etc. redwings for the win every time as an “entry” level real boot. Redwing needs to send this man a pair for sure.
It's hard not to feel like you're looking at an artifact that helped build America in the 20th century. In 2020, it's practically folk art. It makes me want to buy a pair.
I bought pair of those 8 years ago, they were resoled 2 times already and still are much more than fine. The best part is, that I am still using original original shoelaces.
I’ve had my redwing iron rangers since freshman year of highschool and I’m a senior in college now. I love them. Take care of the leather and they’ll last you forever. Well worth the money.
It would be really interesting to see some of your own leather work! Would be cool to hear your explanations on why you chose a certain material or method. :)
7 years 3 resoles were the most comfortable foot wear I own. I kept them clean and polished to a high shine got tons of comments on them. They are now hurting my left heal and the leather is starting to crack. Time for a new pair! I wore these boots everyday walking 3 to 5 mile on concrete. I will say they hurt like hell until broken in which took two weeks or more. But after they break in they are gold!
they're legit - I have two pairs of Thursdays, a pair of Wolverine 1000 Miles, and a few Red Wings - the Thursdays are a really good value and they're good looking boots but they aren't the same quality as the $500+ boots that they compare themselves to at times
You should do a video on the quality of the common projects achilles low to see if those live up to the quality hype, and Also do something like the Oliver Cabell low 1 to compare the price and quality
I finally bought these exact boots today at the North Spokane store because of this video. I bought a full size down. I tried the half size down but my foot moved around too much even with a medium weight wool sock. I mean oiled them and then went on a 3 mile walk. There is no real cushion in them so you have to condition your feet for it but I didn’t have any rubbing or chafing or slipping and they felt great.
Now I know why there’s all the hype surrounding these boots.Wow!! How well made are these boots. Thanks again Weston for another great video. We don’t see many of these boots over here in Britain-usually on EBay as a used item, going for around £90to £100
Growing up my Grandpa would get a new pair of the redwing 8” moccasin type workboots every five years or so. We had a sheep ranch, and that man would be in those boots working from dawn to dust every dang day. Hunting in the Colorado rockies every season, generally beating the devil out of himself and his boots Even at the end of that five years the darn boots didn’t have a hole but they did smell like a sheep tried to climb into a garbage disposal and I think Nana made him get rid of them. I plan on a nice pair for my husband for Fathers Day so I’m glad you noted that they run big.
They're generally solid boots. I've owned a pair of Blacksmiths for four years. They're like the Iron Rangers but don't have the cap toe. They've done great for me and look good enough to wear in a office space. Plus I'm lucky enough to drive by a Red Wing store on my commute, so if I ever need them conditioned it's as easy as stopping in and taking off my boots.
I can almost imagine the scaffolders and riveters wearing these when they built the Empire State Building. A bit out of my price range (especially here in the UK at £289 or $360) though .... one day maybe.
The thing with redwings is, if you divide 360 by the years they will last. .. then the shoes are actually cheaper then normal shoes. Even second hand is worth to try.
paul greenwood My red wings were 300ish in american (same style boot but steel toe) and have lasted me 4 years, resoled once for 50 dollars. I used to go through a pair of boots every summer and so far the only wear is surface scuffs, some cracking and leaking because I never oiled them and the eyelets are wearing a bit. I got another pair for $100 at a factory second outlet, if you don't care about surface finish like me, thats the way to go
They are well worth it..!! I got mine in London...there is a shop in Carnaby Street. Amazing service from them and worth getting fitted as you'll need to go down half to a full size (I'm down a full size) but they look awesome, fit beautifully, took 10 mins to break in and they are the only shoes I have ever had comments about as not many people have them..!!
I'm a cheap bastard and I still managed to save for a pair of Iron Rangers. Bought them on sale though, but they were still almost 300 CAD. I never ever regreted buying them since I wear them almost every day. I've had mine for aobut 4 years now and they are pretty new, I could sell them easily if I wanted. The way I justify it is that I don't buy other shoes, clothes or birthday presents for a while.
Note regarding the winter performance of these boots. When walking (NOT remaining stationary) they are comfortable at least down to -5C, thick leather is nice! The sole gives quite good grip on ice but is less suited for slippery mud and snow. Gravel doesn't seem to get stuck NEARLY as easily in mini-lugs as it does in real lugs.

I used to work at the red wing plant, on the line that made all the iron rangers and heritage boots. The amount of work it took to make the copper rough and tough iron rangers was nuts. Still. There's a reason red wing is such a popular brand.
Was it the general construction, or something about that color? The construction is wild
Those boots suck
@@Lexidezi225 let me guess you wore them for a day and gave up 😂
@@Gobraves777I've worn mine 3 years. Literally the most uncomfortable boot in my closet.
Only problem is they don’t come with an insole. Do you used an after market insole or anything?
@@kdtool9437 no need to get after market insole, the leather insole will mold to your foot after wearing them a couple weeks. Especially if it's hot out
Ryan Douglas And that’s enough? I have a pair of Johnston & Murphy boots, probably worn them 40-50 times (only to church) and I’m starting to think I need an insole. They are super comfortable to put on but aren’t that great for walking.
@@dk302948 Church is your problem. It rots your brains. Stop letting them dupe you with their santa clause fairy tales. It's all made up.
@@kdtool9437 you do not need insoles. Actually comfortable insoles takes away from your foot muscles and strength and makes your feet weaker. These veg tan leather insoles will mold to your foot and it will be nice and comfortable. I never have an issue breaking in these boots. The cat is seriously in love with you. I've never seen a cat that likes to be near its owner for so long.
You haven't seen my cat, she constantly wants attention, it can get annoying although it does help that she is fluffy.

Just brought myself these ,
I remember seeing this video come out and thinking I need these in my life but could never afford them until now and just brought my first pair today .
👍🇺🇸
Best boots made? Have you ever heard of the Pacific Northwest? They make the best work boots in the world up there. These redwings are like doll shoes compared to them
@@Lexidezi225 Oooh you’re so cool…..
I would just like to mention how much I love toaster and his total fearlessness of sharp, jagged objects.
Yeah, that part slayed me, hahahahaha!
There are no hypes in Red Wing boots. There are just pure quality and guaranteed!
I've worn a couple danner combat boots while i served loved em lasted song time real comfy right out the box
Danner are good, I had a second hand repaired pair even then they kicked ass.
For the same money you can get twice the boot with Limmer's

I picked up my pair with the intention of wearing them for riding and work. Good to hear they hold up well.
Had a similair pair from redwing for about 12 years, the nails came through at one point but the heel sole was able to be replaced and it was fixed. Replaced the sole a couple times and had the toe caps and a tongue replaced. Wore them till the whole body just began to wear through.

I am a retired Oregon Land Surveyor. I have worn Redwing's my entire career. The model that I had worn 'forever' (45 years) is no longer available. it's really helpful understanding what is a good, durable and comfortable work boot - there just isn't enough info about this and it's critical for those of us on our feet all day.
I love when Toast appears in the videos, so much.

Huh. Did the totally flat bottoms/lack of traction bother you at all? I can't wear these hiking at all.
@@stephentatarczuk2536 the new iron rangers are now made with mini lugs instead of the flat bottoms of old.

Yes, I do, but I am from Minnesota.
i've used redwings for most of my professional career, when i got my first set i was in love, 2 or 3 pairs later things started to change for the worse, they were getting uncomfortable and took forever to break in, if they ever did at all..

As a Brit, I don't care where Red Wing boots are made, but I'm happy to pay up for workmanship wherever it originates from, UK US Argentina, Australia or even China. These boots are a quality US product, and your channel does a great job of explaining what makes a great pair of boots!
I completely agree. Quality is quality, no matter where it's made.
Yeah like technically abolsutely nothing says an American boot would be better quality than a Chinese boot.
This video here is why I subscribed to you back in December. I knew you'd deliver!
Exactly the same here
This is exactly the channel I never knew I needed. Thank you good sir.
It's hard not to feel like you're looking at an artifact that helped build America in the 20th century. In 2020, it's practically folk art. It makes me want to buy a pair.
Buy a pair and wear them, They will be the last boot you will ever want to own.
When you get great service and comfort for a long period of time that says it all period
I bought pair of those 8 years ago, they were resoled 2 times already and still are much more than fine. The best part is, that I am still using original original shoelaces.
Cats sees sharp nails protruding from heel: "Ohhh! I'm gonna rub my face on that!"
Great video mate. Keep up the good work.

That's a cat for you I am somewhat surprised that one eyed cats aren't more common.
I bought a pair of these agter watching this video. They haven't disappointed in terms of quality, and they're developing a great looking patina.
Love the Iron Rangers! Best boot I’ve ever had!
Anything Thursday boots plz keep seeing TH-cam advertisements everywere lol
Yes please!
Chealsy boots to be more specific (in my opinion feel free to tell me your opinion)
they're legit - I have two pairs of Thursdays, a pair of Wolverine 1000 Miles, and a few Red Wings - the Thursdays are a really good value and they're good looking boots but they aren't the same quality as the $500+ boots that they compare themselves to at times
I have a pair of Thursday Captain and Wolverine 1000.
I just ordered a second pair of Thursday Boots because how much i love them.
Trenton & Heath already done lots of that
You should do a video on the quality of the common projects achilles low to see if those live up to the quality hype, and Also do something like the Oliver Cabell low 1 to compare the price and quality
I put these on and I knew I had to have them. The fit is far better than every other boot I've ever worn.
Finally tore apart a shoe i own. love mine. Totally recommend them.
Your co-host was like "oh sharp shiny nails must cuddle them"
As I'm getting custom made boots alike the Rangers construction-wise, this was extremely interesting.
Now I know why there’s all the hype surrounding these boots.Wow!! How well made are these boots. Thanks again Weston for another great video. We don’t see many of these boots over here in Britain-usually on EBay as a used item, going for around £90to £100
Love the cat. Sometimes he or she listens attentively. Sometimes he/she takes a little nap sitting up. A star.
Wait chain stitching is stronger than lock stitching? I was told the opposite before. I was also told that chain stitch also easily comes undone
I think it depends on the application
Growing up my Grandpa would get a new pair of the redwing 8” moccasin type workboots every five years or so. We had a sheep ranch, and that man would be in those boots working from dawn to dust every dang day. Hunting in the Colorado rockies every season, generally beating the devil out of himself and his boots Even at the end of that five years the darn boots didn’t have a hole but they did smell like a sheep tried to climb into a garbage disposal and I think Nana made him get rid of them. I plan on a nice pair for my husband for Fathers Day so I’m glad you noted that they run big.
Nice story, great comment.
@@ThijsLammerse I never thought of it like that. :)
