I spent about thirteen fucking YEARS trying to figure out what this song was. I would always ask people, "Do you remember that rock song in the nineties that was like, 'Ow, a-hoo-hoo!' followed by 'WHYYYEEEEYIIIYEEEEYIIIYEEEE YEAHHHHH'" and nobody ever knew what the fuck I was talking about. It wasn't until a couple years ago that I recited it to my dad and he immediately knew which song I was talking about. I was reunited with this awesome song and this awesome band once more. Classic.
That’s so funny. It’s cool that your dad knew it. This song is special to me because when I was a kid this older kid in the neighborhood gave me a tape to listen to and this was the first song along with a bunch of really early Korn, Nine Inch Nails, and Smashing Pumpkins songs. I spent hours listening to this.
A friend and I used to drive around singing along to this song on the radio and laughing at how funny it is, with the "ow ah-hoo ooh" and "why-ee-yi-ee-yi-ee" parts. It became a private joke between us. We'd bust out with an "ow ah-hoo ooh" at a moment's notice.
That sounds like a kickass show actually man. Idk much by Sponge but what I've heard I liked. And Candlebox and Our Lady Peace are criminally underrated. I bet you had a great time that night. Sounds like when I went to see Incubus and Queens of the Stone Age with my roommate and these two girls we met in AA lol
It's true, that happens to all music lovers. But there's a beautiful feeling on the other side when you hear the song again after a year of non-listening.
When did this song come out? Thinking about the super man lyrics! And an artist that might have been right before rain, Now with that being said, this does have a sent of the 90's and not bad!
In history class, we hit the 90's area and we were playing "Guess that song" with music from the 90's, and within the first 3 seconds of this song my hand shot right up and I was the only one who knew it. I facepalm to my generation.
Its close to 4am and I'm Clumsy, a Thief, Innocent. Superman's Dead, Made of steel, but im In Repair and Made to heal, But in the end All you did was save my life and you are Somewhere out there, Never get over you so ill ask is Anybody home. If not ill try to be a One Man Army.
Remember playing street hockey afterschool round fall and hearing this on the radio all the time. My childhood is attached to this song and I couldn't have wished for a more perfect one for it to be. **Is the title an ode to "God's Dead" by Nietzsche - this song makes complete sense if it is (makes sense even if it isn't lol).
I was having struggles trying to do vocals for a song I liked (I was recording a cover, also my first time doing so using my vocals) and the first draft I showed to my friends, the majority did not like my voice in singing and being a prick I decided at that moment I was gonna give up singing. (Which was extremely dumb, not everyone is gonna like your voice) but I told my dad than I was gonna give up singing and he said you’re probably not “letting go” Like using your voice in its full entirety, be louder, add more umph, add more emotion, and proceeded to show me this song and he said something like this and when the chorus came on I knew what he was talking about (not like that yeaheyeaheyeah stuff) but the capability to do things like that almost and it inspired me to re-record my vocals Better, it still needs work but it’s better than the original version, I might post it some day. Again it’s not a huge break through it is my first time.
Anyone who's into this should definitely check out Smashing Pumpkins and/or Radiohead (specifically The Bends). I imagine most people already know though lol.
I swear the guitar chords at the chorus remind me of another really popular rock song from the 80s or 90s. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what it is though.
I used to hate this song too, but honestly; when I hear the skill exhibited by Raine in pulling off the falsetto for this song... it puts all those doubts aside. It's so different from everything else they've done, which makes it great knowing they had it as a single too! XD
He said "one of the best he's ever heard". Stop trying to make something out of nothing. Peart is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. This guy is still fucking awesome.
I'm a 90s fan as well, even though I was born in 1990. So when I was a teen, I grew up with the newer stuff and there was also good music in it, but it feels like the quality went down due to the quantity. I don't even want to think about the last couple of years, the music industry obviously lost their sense of hearing due to all the dollars in their ears.
***** "The world is a subway..." means the world just goes by and everyone ignores everyone and we lack connection to each other and to our spiritual selves, which is the whole point of Superman's dead... he meant the original, "innocent" old cartoon of Superman is dead and gone, meaning his and the children growing up after him who are so plugged in via internet/technology (yes, even back in 1997/98), their innocence is dead, they become jaded and ironic far too early in life.
i don't think there talking about the man of steel in the song.... i think there talking about superman as in a hero... some-one that his a hero, like a fireman... or something... but yet, i could be wrong, they could be talking about superman.... Lol
Right on my brother ✌️ You get it. So did Christ, Buddha, Lao Tzu. Along with many others. Live in the now and know that youre already perfect in every way.

The whole album is really good, also spiritual machines
Did the same thing lmao. Was trying to find it for about 7 years until my dad started playing this.
Haha i get that, its the worse. Funny i only know this song cuz it was in my fathers ipod
That’s so funny. It’s cool that your dad knew it. Katie blue you got me over here rolling on the floor crying laughing girl. 😂😂😂😂
What I've learned from this song: 1. Superman's dead. 2. The world is a subway.
It is rather informative isn't it
People are commenting surprised me abit
Hyyyyyyyyyyyy
Subway, eat fresh 🤷
doesn't anybody ever know?

This is such a kickass song. It's just so much better than everything else, man.

The singer, Raine Maida...his singing is like a combination of Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan.
Part of that whole... 90's alt.. almost manic. scene. I always think of his weird half grimace half grin when he sings.
Thats actually an astute observation!
Chris no it isn't Raines voice is a high falsetto A5-G7Billy Coragans voice is a mid tenor Kobain is also tenor you my friend are tone def
Look up all those terms and clean your ears
Angela Malone made Kurt roll over in his grave
Coming back to this gem after many years will always love grunge
World's most underrated rock band of the 90s. That whole album was and still is, fire.
One of the best drummer ive ever heard
Jeremy Taggart
Is the drummer's name
This guy has great control over his falsetto. Props.
Fresh out of high school my friend and I grabbed a couple of girls and headed to Candlebox/Sponge/Our lady Peace. Unbeatable. Truly the good old days!
That would have been amazing!!!

How could I have forgotten about Sponge....
Ahh, the sounds of childhood....
Oh yeah. This brings me back to my weekend long Shadowrun campaign days.
This song is so good, it's just a shame that I will listen to it to the point that I hate it :( ....but so far so good :)
What I often do with songs I love lol
It's true, that happens to all music lovers. But there's a beautiful feeling on the other side when you hear the song again after a year of non-listening.

2:50 Best part of this heavy, heavy tune. Whole song is of course great. A rock classic. Beam this one out to the Aliens. They will like it.

The ending to this song is the perfect prelude to “Time Bomb” by Methods of Mayhem.
This song pretty much defines my childhood in the GTA.

Is it possible to bring back new 90s sounding music?
Anything's possible

this song has always made me cry. ever since 1997 when i was an aimless child this song always made me sad.
I don't get it. Why? It always brings a smile to my face and makes me feel good despite all the bullshit.
i like it!

I think he means that the world we live in is not our final destination. it's a carrier to where we're supposed to go. but that's just a guess too

This would be perfect for butcher to kill Homelander.
Also this song totally fits Homelander, partially
There's still good music out there. Don't be lazy and just go search for it.
I remember covering this song. Was it ten years go? Man.
20 years now
An American sitting here drinking Molson's and listening to OLP... thank you Canada!!!
