    I was really surprised when I noticed this irl. It feels like every company is making their logo as minimalist, corporate, sans serif-filled and generic as possible like it's some sort of competition to be as boring as possible.
    Also I love your videos :D

      It's reflecting how corporate, boring and safe the fight against offence has made EVERYTHING in society

    I think an improvement would be to actually show the old designs as a comparison right next to the new ones. Hard to understand what you're saying without the visual aid of the old logo beside the new one. Great video tho!

      Agreed. It's a video that imagines everyone watching is obsessed with branding

    I think of all the "flattened" logos, VW's and especially KIA's worked really well. VW needed a complete makeover after Dieselgate; pushing their Id. line of EVs and introducing a new logo that truly felt new ever since the 70's helped to distance themselves from their bleak past and KIA's - readability issues aside - looks fresh and unique.

      Poor readability of the brand logo is of great advantage to KIA. In the minds of many americans K.I.A. brings negative association with Killed In Action. All in all brilliant move to use the new logo, looks nice.

    Mini imitating no existing form and standing on it's own.....what a delicious sentence.
    Their cars literally imitate cars from the past and tbey don't stand on their own.... they're BMWs underneath their skin!

    A flat logo most of the time make the brand feel more basic and so less premium
    expect Dacia

    Just wait for the Earth to go flat....
    Flat logos are lazy and more of cost saving messure then anything to do with "looking like tech company". And "Ensuring better legibility for customers" is just a good way to insult your customers of ignorance or admitting that your legal team can not fight copycat chinese brands fast enough.
    Hope for 3D logos to make comeback.... hopefully with common sense as well, hes' going away in this day and age as well it seems.

    Honestly... I somewhat like the new Nissan Logo. It is a change, and at least they are trying to rid themselves of the "Bargain Basement brand reputation" they acquired under Carlos.

    Love your videos, great content & delivery, also very well polished.
    I actually like these flat logo rebrands. You could argue that the previous evolutions to 3D badges with shaded shields etc have aged poorly, so this whilst minimalist does make the brands look more timeless in my opinion.

    • @arostwocents
      @arostwocents 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      These will age poorly though. Anyone who buys into a new trend automatically thinks things previous to a trend has aged poorly. But you are not commenting objectively. These logos are boring.

  • @flexdesigns4700

    People never really accept logo redesigns in the first place. They don't feel comfortable having something they're so familiar with, change. Although I do agree that some of the redesigns does the previous logo bad, I think it's a step in the right direction.

    • @onwardsandupwards547
      @onwardsandupwards547  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some redesigns work and some don't. But the old logos with all the chrome looked ugly, they were solid logos and didn't need to be buried under a bunch of effects. You're right, people don't like change.
      Something I didn't mention is that a number of logos were flat back in the 70s and 80s when printing would've been the go to advertising method. The un-flat versions were added much later.

    The downside is, these companies wasted this kind of money on word salad, nerdy presentations and obscure stoner thoughts of a fantasy reality. instead of building your potential car better.
    Thats what I love obout the line "If you have to remind people you're the King, you're not much of a King"

  • @omarlinp
    @omarlinp ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the reality is that all logos needs to be revise from time to time, no logo can last forever (unless it is really iconic), most companies (including car companies) are doing it for the flexibility of putting the new logo in more places that goes beyond the badge of the car. just as mini explain. 4:15

  • @biggallcaps

    I agree with your points, but I also hate change. I hate how in this world the best solution for trying to sell more shit is to break what wasn't broke and try to go into the lane of some other up and coming product and try to steal it's success by copying it instead of doubling down on what made their product unique and good on its own. Familiarity and distinct choices is what I want dammit. I don't want all the cars to be the same just like how I don't want all my food to be tasteless nutrition paste. I want contrast and uniqueness and the ability to choose what kind of thing I want to represent me. If it's all the same, I no longer have the choice and I don't care any more. Which is bad for brands. Just my 2 cents

      I hope the likes of Lamborghini and Ferrari don't follow suit, having said that they really don't need to rebrand anyway.
      But there are plenty of makes that haven't rebranded recently like Ford, Seat, Jaguar, Honda, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Seat etc.

    hard disagree with you on this one. not impressed with the trend of flat logos at all and especially not a fan of car brands following it. the reason these companies change their logos to a flat version is because they feel like they don't have to distinguish themselves from others anymore because everyone recognizes their brand anyway, not because they're these progressive forward thinking companies who wanna show the world how futuristic they are. it's simply a way to save money for the people up top because they think consumers are stupid. bmw is the perfect example of this imo since i think the rebrand has sucked all the life out of the brand.
    i especially like the badge designs having a bit of texture and materiality because it fits the product they're selling you. the logo is quite literally a representation of the cars themselves and help the brands stand out as being car brands. these flat, oversimplified, colorless shapes don't tell you anything about what you're looking at if no further context is given.
    the reason people have been so rebellious against this trend of logo design is not because they don't like change. it's because it takes away personality from these brands, and just reminds us more and more of how corporate and money driven everything around us has become.

    That Obligatory 1st comment. FML.
    Edit: What do you think about brands that Talk about Tradition alot like Porsche and Ferrari of which Porsche has a very complex logo? Will they go flat or stay rooted. Ferrari has a simple logo but will they make it more simple in the future.
    I know these brands stand for luxury but what will happen to them?

    • @onwardsandupwards547
      @onwardsandupwards547  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I honestly have no idea. They are luxury brands, but Aston Martin, Rolls Royce and Bugatti of all people have all updated their brands recently.
      My guess is if they want to create some kind brand system to use across social and for marketing material they will do a refresh. But brands like Ferarri and Lamborghini really don't need to market themselves.
      They don't need to, but they could refresh their image like Bugatti

    Well I actually like the redesigns of Audi BMW, Nissan and the likes.
    But I think it was a bad decision from VW to make the lines thinner, those thin lines just don’t work in my opinion.
    I also think the new KIA logo is just plain awful, I’ve already wondered quite a few times what this strange „KN“ represents and why the n is on its head… until I realized that it actually meant KIA like like seriously just a little stubby implication of a line through that A would’ve made it much more readable and kept the futuristic design.

    The new car logos are so soulless , when vw had a blue & white design 1998-2006? (ish!) It was playful, fun, energetic.. when Nissan/Renault/Peugeot/Citroen had big chrome emblems with harsh black drop shadows they looked "cool" & "stylish" with a little bit of character where as nowadays I see through it and look past it , it's not memorable...

  • @phlash65-5

    The Kia logo is still total trash. It took me months of seeing those new cars on the road to even know it was a Kia, I kept asking around what the new KN car was. And even today when I know that thing is a Kia, in my head I still see the letters KN first and have to think of what it really means.

    I had not noticed any of these brand logos had changed until I watched this video. Marketing money well spent. Question mark. Maybe invest in actual EV tech instead.
