  • In this video I show you the best method for cleaning a glass top stove. This will work with any ceramic top / cooktop or stove. This will help protect the top from grease buildup and cut down on the amount of scratches you'll get on the glass top surface.
Tools used in this video are a dirty glass top stove, scratchy pad, razor blade scraper, cooktop cleaner and some paper towels.
Here is a video for removing scratches, I found this one. I may try it in the future.

We recently bought a ceramic glass range and it's been great to cook on. The scratches and cleaning, not so much. What I found works really good is a magic eraser of all things! Give it a try before breaking out the buffer and polishing compound ;)

My stove is 9 years old. I use pretty much the same method, but every time I use the stove (not every once in a while). The one thing I do differently is to use spray stainless steel cleaner/polish. I just spray on after all the cleaning and 5 second buff with paper towel. No haze. Looks almost as good as the day I bought it. 😁

Exactly I drive my wife nuts my glass cook top is 15 years old and still look this shiny and nude as it did when we brought it home because I immediately clean it all as soon as it cools down after cooking anything and it's something gets spilled while I'm cooking it immediately gets wiped off before it has a chance to bake on to the surface.

That is exactly the way I do it. To not scratch it with the scraper, do back and fwd movements, never in circles! Finally I use the Weiman spray, it’s fenomenal, it gives a ‘new’ type of shine to the glass and is true, it will make your nxt cleanup easier as it creates like a barrier of protection. Fully recommended.

I grew up with an original Corning glass stove. Corning had a powdered and liquid product called Delete. It was SO expensive. My mom was told to use Barkeeper's Friend, which she did and the stove top looked great 30+ years later when we sold the house. Now that I have my own glass top stove, I still use the (liquid) Barkeeper's Friend. It's sold in grocery stores near cleansers and is inexpensive. Leave the liquid on the spills for a bit (an hour or so) and the dish sponge with blue side will take it all off. Razor blade only if needed.

This gentleman is spot on and correct with the cleaning method of using the Weisman Glass Top Cleaner/Polisher. A co-worker told me about the Bar Keeper Friend to use to get to and clean the tough areas. Depending on the amount of build up of spilled, over-flow, and long term grease that is sitting on the top of the stove. I basically only use the Bar Keeper Friend once (maybe twice a week) 1st I sprinkle the Bar Keeper onto the stove glass top. Then I use a wet dish cloth (not soppy wet though) and I put in a bit of elbow grease type of rubbing to remove the extra cooked on grime. Rinse that dish cloth out, and wipe down the glass top, dry with a portion control piece of paper towel. 2. Then I use Weisman Glass Top Cleaner/Polisher as Bill's video demonstrated. Then the stove is ready for use daily. It takes only about 3-5 minutes to clean if the stove top if its really grimy. Or 1-2 minutes if it is not that dirty. The stove looks wonderful all of the time.

When I got my Kenmore electric range with the glass cooktop, it came with a small bottle of "COOK TOP" cleaning cream made by ELCO LABS with a small yellow scratch pad. It works fairly well if you first clean the stove with Dawn and a kitchen sponge first after every use. It really gives it a nice buffing shine.

I ise these same techniques but had never thought of baking soda until you mentioned other have used it.
I had some very very thin film caked on and was unable to remove with a razor blade and needed something a bit more abrasive.
A damp paper towel and a dusting of baking soda, mixed with some elbow grease and time took it right off! Of course, finish up with some weiman!
Thanks for the in depth cleaning video!

Here is a tip to prevent scratches in the first place. Before use take all of the pans you want to use, and, really buff out the bottoms with a good fine abrasive to remove any small rough spots that can cause scratches. I also avoid sliding and shaking the pans while cooking, use a spatula to move the food around instead.

    • @johnanderson3700
      @johnanderson3700 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thanks for this tip. I find these stoves scratch so easily even with minimal movement of pans. I have yet to fine any satisfactory method to remove a scratch when it occurs. My scratches aren’t too visible and you can’t see them except under strong direct lighting. They are annoying, and remind me of how difficult it is to avoid scratches on a windshield even when you’re very careful.

    • @Honeycombe88

You gotta be kidding. If you get a glass top stove, just get used to haziness and scratches, which is what will occur with normal use of a stove on glass/ceramic. Or get a stove that holds up to cooking pots and pans. If a house doesn't have gas, I don't know if there are stoves these days that will hold up to cooking over years without damage.

In this video you used what looks like an auto rubbing compound. I've used a thing called
jeweler's rouge. It's a red powdery substance use for jewelry. It is great. Give it a shot.
Purchased a glass topped stove (GE) and am experimenting. So far, soap, water, razor and like you said once a month (I do it once two weeks apart depending how dirty it is) is fine.

Bar Keepers Friend worked on a really tough job for me. I didn't know if the stove was pitted from the pan I used or just surface problem. Some of the marks came off after normal-type scrubbing. One area, though, I left on overnight and it came clean in the morning.

Amazingly; if you are accustomed to brewing tea with tea bags, you can take the leftover tea bags to make a jar of tea from it; and it amazingly cuts through the grease between normal use; it’s not a deep cleaner, but the tea made this way really helps remove oil; my biggest concern with glass top is how easy it scratches and how difficult it is to remove scratches. I do clean after each use and that seems to help keep clean.

I don't just buff the Polish off. After scrubbing the stove top with the cleaner I use a wet paper towel to remove the dirt and grime then another microfiber cloth to buff it out. Shines up every time. I would think you would not want that cleaner left on the stove top to smell when the burner is turned on.

  • @courag1

I have an induction top but basically the same glass, and use Weiman Glass Cook Top cleaner daily but I don't use paper towels, I use soft white cotton terri cloth instead. Cotton is not a source of scratching the glass itself. I use the cook top daily and it looks like new. I did use another product called Cerama Bryce but the Weimar product seems to work better.
I don't get much grease cooked on as I basically cook as fat free as possible so we steam most things. The main thing is not to try to cook on Power Boost --- just use it to heat up the pot and turn it to the setting you need.
Every time I cook, I do this cleaning and never have to use a razor blade. I clean my countertops also but with glass cleaner. Keeps the kitchen shiny and sanitary and is fast to do.

The easiest way I've found of cleaning a glass top stove, almost instantly, with no scraping, is to mix a paste of water and diatomaceous earth... apply liberally... then wipe off carefully with a damp napkin or paper towel. It removes cooked on food and grease, almost instantly, with no scrubbing.... no scratchy pad is needed. Wipe it off with some wet napkins, then wipe one more time with a soapy napkin, then wipe the water away. (Tip: use food grade diatomaceous earth, because you'll be able to use what's left over for a lot of purposes.)

To get rid of the blue haze, put a little vinegar on it, let it sit for a few minutes and clean it off. All haze will be gone.

Do you know what the failure mode is for these burners. My right front has to be over half way on the temp control before it begins to cook. In other words cannot slowly cook on that burner .

I've searched Google and TH-cam for a solution to this but cannot find an answer. My ceramic glass stovetop has a black stain/discoloration over what used to be a gray colored burner. It is NOT food that can be scrubbed/scrapped off with a razor blade, bar keepers friend, vinegar/baking soda, glass stove top commercial cleaners, magic eraser...even oven cleaner, for example. It appears to have sunken into the glass. The surface is smooth to the touch. Nothing has been dropped on the surface causing any kind of stress fractures either. The discoloration only appears directly on the burners where I place my pots/pans to cook. And I can still see the original pattern of the gray speckle cooktop underneath the black.

Yes..my steel gray cook top has a few black spots that will not come out...it is though they are stained inside the glass.....just like HOT SPOTS that are probably defects of some kind of over heating spots.......cannot remove them no matter what.......so bummed out

Just use Windex and some 0000 steel wool...this is what we used in the auto body shop to clean car windows before customer inspections. No...the steel wool will not scratch the glass. Don't use water because the steel wool will rust and you will only be able to use it once.

He said that was a "green" scratchy pad. On my tv, it's bright blue. ??? In my kitchen, the really scratchy pads are green, and the ones for more delicate things or nonstick pans (less scratchy pads) are blue. I think he's color blind. The standard way to clean the stove apparently does not get the haziness off. You have to resort to buffing pads on a drill with some sort of buffing compound. Not practical for the ordinary cook. So glass top stoves will just get hazy from normal use. A reason not to buy that type of stove. The old fashioned ones with the circular heat rings hold up better to the use of cooking, pots, iron skillets, etc. A gas stove is also good, if you have gas.

Are manufacturers of these stoves working on any protective coating or another method to reduce scratching etc. If some enterprising person could do that they would become wealthy over night.

Just had some really good luck with a buffer and baking soda mixed with rubbing compound. The actual glass cleaner would probably be better than the rubbing compound. Worked great in any case.
