I have that exact same glass top stove. The right front dual element burner would stay on high so I changed the switch with the same one shown in the video. Now the large element works and regulates as it should. However, regardless of which side you turn the knob (small or large element), only the large element lights up. What would cause only the large element to work regardless which direction the knob is turned? My switches and wires are are clockwise from UP when looking at the switch from the back side: P1: RED 2: ORANGE P2: BLACK (2 wires) 4a: OFF WHITE 4: PURPLE (2 wires) and ORANGE (1-wire) all connected in dual spades that go to a single terminal Thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos!!
@@bensappliancesandjunk Hi Ben, I have an 15 year old Amana fridge that isn't cooling well and since I'm a bit handy I'd like to work on it myself. Do you offer any live/personal technical help (free or fee-based)? I don't have social media but if you have an email that's better for communication, please provide. Thanks!
Very well explained, I'm having an issue with the same one you replaced the switch for, when I turn it on, I can't control the temperature, it turns on high temperature only and I can't reduce it.
Hi Ben, I have a similar GE glass cooktop. The oven works fine but all the burners don't work. Is there a lock or self cleaning features that may have lock the cooktop but not the oven that I may have engaged while cleaning the controle panel ? Thanks
I love your videos. Maybe you could do one on induction cooktops at some point. Would love to know what you think about them. I am considering making the switch from my propane cooktop.
HVAC tech here with a question. Where would I go to get training on appliance repair. I really haven't found a program here in southern California, San Diego specifically. Please!!!
At 11:26 in your video, there is a smaller white "box" above the two other larger white switches. There is a white and purple wire going to this. What is this? I broke a disconnect to this box and am trying to figure out (a) if I even need to have it connected and (b) if I need a special high heat disconnect on it. I could cut the wire and crimp a disconnect in it but worried it has to be a high heat disconnect. Thanks
Help ! Having trouble with my glass top range. My clock light has been going off. It’s been coming back on at some point, but then will go off again . When it does this my top eyes will still work when this happens , but can’t use the oven until those clock lights comes back on . What could be making my clock light go off , an come back on? It’s hours in between the clock light working an not working. Anyone have any ideas to what is happening here. Please help , thanksgiving is getting close. Can’t afford a service call at the moment.
Thank you! I have the glass top Frigidaire where the glass edge slides over the countertop. The knobs are in the front, but I assume it would look the same behind the knobs where the infinite switches are. The front left burner is out, so I am going to replace it, after going through the troubleshooting. Again, thank you!
My apartment stove heats up and I hear a click and it goes out. The element lights up and you feel heat but it doesn’t boil water as it needs too. Unsure if I replace the infinite switch would solve this.
I'm having a similar issue with mine. Its either it shuts off way too early and doesn't heat up properly... or it just gets hot to the damn max and never shuts off... its messed up. Cheap garbage, sadly.
From your electrical diagram of the switch, the L2 contact should be open (no) and not close at resting state, just like the the L1 (no) contacts. Please explain.
Ben Ben Ben, what on earth are you trying to do, giving advice to people to repair something in this manner is so reckless and irresponsible. Don’t know where to start, ok , you suggest to use rubber gloves to work on live 💥 wiring, dude that’s just insane. Then there’s the concept that someone who’s not a trained professional can safely dismantle and reassemble such an appliance and guarantee the ongoing safety of themselves and their family members, the amperage available to a stove is huge and is relentless in causing injuries or death, in a flash so to speak. Then there’s the eventuality of risk of fire, yeh try arguing with your insurance company why they won’t cover replacing your burnt out house because fire investigation determines an unregistered person incorrectly wired up the stove. Sorry for the PSA but there needs to be an adult in the room
@@4zooflorida , aaah, no, I’m just well versed in insurance claims and fire investigation. There’s a really good reason that being an electrician is a 4 year apprenticeship, but whatever, I suppose you probably prescribe to home dentistry too.
While I totally agree that this is not a diy project and an electrical fire hazard issue, you are completely wrong about homeowner insurance issues. Unless you commit arson, you will still receive coverage for doing careless or stupid things.
I remember in my grandparents day that they released a stove that didn't get hot. It was just a EM coil that heated up a coil on the pan itself. The pot was the only thing that got hot. It didn't catch on, but nothing useful ever does, does it.

Glad it was helpful!

Wow, great coverage of this issue. My Frigidaire range is working well but I'm saving this video for future reference!

Great video Ben! I have a newer model Frigidaire glass stove with no problems, but I'm a mechanic so I was always curious about the inner workings.

By chance did you figure this out? I have the same issue. My oven works, but none of my glass top works suddenly.
I don't own a Frigidaire glass top stove, but I enjoy your videos! Subscribed and liked.

Absolutely love the troubleshooting videos.
Glad you like them!

Doesn't need to be high heat
It's the "element on" indicator light. The purple wire is 110 vac and the white wire is the neutral wire.
I have a small chip on the burner. Is it usable. If so how much will it cost to repair it
Awesome video😁👍love every second of it.
I fixed mine! I just unplugged it and then plugged it back in. Good ol IT instincts save dinner.

I have a hotpoint electric stove. The handle bows out too far and blocks the side cabinet drawer. Can I replace it with a handle from another maker?

Yes should be identical
Would this same procedure apply to an lg glass top stove?
In general yes
My apartment stove heats up and I hear a click and it goes out. The element lights up and you feel heat but it doesn’t boil water as it needs too. Unsure if I replace the infinite switch would solve this.
What if the banner is on or off? The temperature settings do not work on. It is off or burned everything?
awesome video. would you take a look at the lg top load washer WT8400CW?
I don't know if their quality has dropped, but my Frigidaire Smoothtop is 25 years old and no issues so far.
Any update on the contacts for inside of a whirlpool electric dryer timer?
Not yet sadly
My frigidaire stove, all burners turn on and off and i hear a solenoid click..is there a commun solenoid or why they all doing that
Good multi meter tutorial.
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice weekend

Probably the switch
GE stove very similar.
Yes definitely

Interesting to buy 3 burners
Hello can i have location or phonamber
Were you trying to be funny wearing latex gloves to protect you from 240 volts?
Kind of yes
sekkund

Sounds like you are from the government. The adults in the room can figure out how to replace a modular unit by watching the video.

What's your suggestion to deal with live voltage to the element? It's easy to criticize but I don't see you offering a better solution at all..

Sounds similar to an induction coil... they do make those today
