What was the first manga you ever read?
Mine was Naruto, got it from a friend on the playground in 6th grade⭐️
Was always an anime watcher until I folded and read the jjk manga. Been reading weekly since Sendai ❤
I honestly don't remember for sure anymore, but I think it was probably either Rurouni Kenshin or InuYasha, two anime series that had a huge impact on my adolescent tastes.
Pokemon Adventures. That series is criminally underrated.
I actually grew up watching anime with my mom, she was very young when I was born, which I'm kind of grateful for because it means I still grew up with so much 90's content even though I came in at the end of 99. I remember watching Chobits with her first.
The first Manga I think I read was this really twisted manga called Judge. I'm not actually sure if i finished it lol
@@remotewinston8683Pokémon black and white actually 😅
Seeing people genuinely start to praise Kagurabachi feels so good as someone whos been there since the beginning
Hokazono has been crafting a great story so far. Gotta read the few most recent chapters, but from Sojo’s appearance up until the middle of the raid on the auction, everything has been spectacular, especially considering it’s from a lesser experienced mangaka.
@@BigManBrad678new chapters are some of the mangas best work! Check it out!
Same. It’s getting the recognition it deserves without the memes
Our recommendation for volume 3 is looking like it might be Kishimoto so every day as a day one KB fan just keeps getting better and better
Same bro
I think we should call this era the “Renaissance Era” because it is a time in shonen where overplayed tropes are dying off and mangaka are returning back to the foundation of what makes stories so awe inspiring in the first place: fresh perspectives and original voices!
A lot of them still use the 'human vs strange creature that probably eats humans, while the protagonist is also one of those creatures' troupe tho
@@MANGAKA__13in a *good* way! Renaissance means rebirth, so it could also reference the currently big thing of taking old tropers and doing something cool with it
@@Kraxel-North I’m not saying it’s in a bad way, but I feel some people use it as an escape route so they don’t have to think too much for a good story… for example I use manga plus creators.. and I see a lot of stories that do it that it gets tiring
But the trope itself isn’t bad, i think it’s just beginning to get overused
Besides, i love this era of manga but I still prefer the 2000s, coz we had series like Naruto, bleach, one piece, hxh, hitman reborn, gintama and the likes… this era has amazing and unique series but for me that time was still the best
lol man stop the cap, great series get axed left and right and u calling it a renaissance era
I started Kagurabachi last Saturday; I finished 34-35 chapters in a few hours and fully caught up in less than a week. I hadn’t really seen the memes, but it’s genuinely an exciting read. I The power system is simple, but utilized and written very effectively and it’s only getting better with each chapter. The paneling and the fight sequences are beautiful; the series just has the “sauce.”
I just love the general direction that Manga and Anime as a whole are going right now. Its only getting easier and easier for artist to express and share their unique and amazing ideas, stories, and characters leading to a large influx of great Manga and Anime. Theres so much variety now that no matter what demographic you find yourself in, you’ll always have plenty of amazing works to entertain yourself with. Manga and Anime are at an all time peak right now and I’m excited to see how much further both will go.
Honestly at first I thought it was clickbait but you’re 100% right in that the thing that is selling rn is not crazy fights or anything it’s just having a cool, easily identifiable, unique style that people are inherently drawn towards. And I’m realizing most of the series that are still running that are popular have that and those that got axed don’t
Kagurabachi is so peak. It's starting to take over Sakamoto Days as my favorite weekly action manga. It's so cinematic, it's crazy. My imagination goes over the top every time I read it.
Please read it.
I love Kagurabachi! Always been a fan of those john wick / kill bill type action movies and from the first chapter I can tell Hokazono wears his inspiration on his sleeves.
Ayy Gokurakugai getting some recognition🔥🔥🔥 (Dandadan and Sakamoto are peak as well)
Editing-wise you're the goat
Shout to my editor for this one! Quinn knows how to match my usual style with his own. Brother is the best
@@JohnnyStar I thank Quinn then
Got to the important message and subscribed straight away. Big up 🇵🇸
Honestly I don’t know what this new era is but all of us find out together
As soon as i heard the part about Gaza and Samurai Champloo playing on the PC in the background i had to subscribe. May God bless you sir.
Honestly Kagurabachi is an interesting case. Literally got treated as the Morbius meme when the first chapter released, then it actually got better and surpasses the meme status. Kagurabachi is Kagurabussin' good and will surpass Kagurabachillion in sales 🥶.
woah the goat uploaded i love this editing so much!!!!
Thank you for the message.
I've been putting off Sakamoto days for far too long. I'm convinced just gotta find the time now brother
Bro you NEED to read this manga
Hi Milez love your Chainsaw man manga breakdown ❤
BRO JUST READ THIS ABSOLUTE CINEMA,
Swear to God Kagurabachi is peak.
anime and manga fans find a series that they enjoy a lot and have to overhype it as “peak fiction” and being one of the greatest stories ever written; and it’s just a battle manga with a hype fight of the week structure and some strong character backstories.
@@cwega2463True
finally someone talking about gokurakugai. i thought i was the only one. Great vid as always johnny
Always love your videos man, keep grinding bro. These are some of the best manga videos I seen
thank you for the recommendations they do look insanely distinct
Keep up the good work. New to the channel, gonna blast through some more videos.
You're so real for centering Momo in this videos thumbnail
Great video thx for uploading❤
Great video, you just got me to check out 2 new manga. Thanks!
As a mangaka myself this is such an exciting era, I'm hyped seeing all these stylish new series even outside of SJ like Gachiakuta 😩😩🔥🔥
Also, thank you so much for sharing, this VIZ one-shot program is literally the opportunity I've been searching for, can't wait to submit my entry 👀👀
There really is a bunch of great weekly reads.. I too have my shonen jump app open constantly. Thanks for highlighting so many great titles.
For this new era. I think callin it like the "Revolution Era" is prob best. Its not like the new era where it uses the past goats to influence them but its mainly people making their own stories with lit influence from the classic shown series. Most arent about high schoolers with super powers, or funny gag manga or a silly teen Assassin trying to gain a personality, but instead unique stories that are inspired from different types of media. Its def interesting to see where this era goes
amazing video bru
I am so glad i get to be apart of this new era of manga being born in the mid 2000's i didn't really get to be apart of any anime/manga movements however reading these new gen mangas makes feels apart of something thanks for highlighting that. Also great job on using your platform to donate to Palestine.@Johnny Star
The fact that we'll soon be getting chapters of HxH, KaguraBachi, and Sakamoto days, published at the same time fascinates me.
Hooked by the content, subscribed to the cause. Huge W.
Good video. I hope Dandadan will be a huge success.
Shonen Jump was really a whole experience to read, it felt like jumping from world to world with the whole community.
such a great video your great love from libya bro
Just want to say fantastic video, great editing, you deserve more subscribers my guy keep it up.
Kagurabachi and Gokurakugai are such a stand out bro. I also like Gachiakuta. It’s a slow start, but it’s good too plus art is so slick and cool 😎
You earned my sub just by mentioning Palestine, keep up the good work brother 👍🏼❤️
Extremely underrated channel and video
1:39 Gettin' creamy huh? 🤨(That's kinda hot)
On a serious note: Gokurakugai being similar to Blue Exorcist is nice. Tbh I stopped watching the continuation of the anime because some of those characters are making stupid choices and overall I find them annoying. I'd like to see Gokurakugai animated. Great vid dude
thank u johnny for donating to our people, so much love💗💗💗
Instant subscribe. All of this video is amazing, although am a bit surprised that Gachiakuta wasn't mentioned
thats not in Jump its in Weekly Shonen Sunday
johnny you have inspired me to try and make anime and manga content like you thank you
I’m liking the content!!!!! I think I picked up my 1st copy of shonen jump either 2003 or 2004. I was like 13 14 lol
Gotta love that Nujabes in the background! TH-cam keeps recommending me the best new channels to sub too!
yoooo this video is tuff man im prob gonna get back into shonen manga
yeah lmao im not gonna watch the rest of the video ima go catch up dont want any spoilers
hey kinda late to the upload, but thanks for keeping up with Palestine ! Real man with principle ! Subbed as soon as the video started just for the way you set the tone for the video but earned my respect with the Palestine message ♥
Keep it up bro 👍
Akane-banashi clears all these, which just adds to the argument of how good the current era is
great video and long live Kagurabachi 🔥🔥🔥
Easily one of my favorite lines “the cream will always rise to the top and boy are things getting creamy”
I’m stealing this, ty
very different from a lot of the stuff in this video but Blue Box is another fantastic Shonen Jump manga that's been blowing up lately. We really are in a golden age.
I've gotten into Kagurabachi when its first chapter came out, and even with the memes that came with it. All it did was get me more engaged with the manga instead of just veering away from it like the rest did. And having already caught up with the recent chapter, I gotta say that I'm very glad to have been a day-one bachi-bro!
2020's is the Renaissance Era of Manga!
Hear me out, how about we call this current era of shonen jump, “The Current Era”
bro Gachiakuta is also insane. the style alone is so well made and the story is just heating up. although i don’t think it might last as long as the others here i think it is a really fun read
Im currently watching bleach right now but DAMN, this video really made me want to read all these manga!
Akanebanashi and Elusive Samueai is also soo good. An Akanebanashi adaptation would be sl hard to nail cause it would ask alot from the Voice Actors. Also Blue Box kinda goated fr fr
dandadan is such a amazing story
Editor needs a raise 🔥💯
Here’s another 5 recent Manga’s that release weekly on SJ that are on par with these in the video.
Dear Anemone
Wild Strawberry
Choujin x
Shojo Null
Astro Baby
I feel old! I had the early 2003 english shonen jump magazines. I picked up at my local grocery store.
I have been calling it: Dark New Shonen with titles like JJK, Demon Slayer & Chainsaw man that leading the way.
I only know Sakamoto days on this list so I don't know if these stories carry the same vibes but maybe they do?
Anyways, great video! I learned of a lot of new titles & I learned HERE that Sakamoto Days is getting an anime! :D
So psyched for that! The battles are crazy!
I've been following Gokurakugai since it was a one shot.
I'm glad to see it get recognition!
Great video, great food for thought
It is definitely one of the most exciting times in shonen jump’s history.
One word to describe this era could be: diverse. While the magazine has frequently featured some off-beat stories and some that weren’t standard shonen fare, it was still mostly action-centric shonen. In recent years it went beyond that. One of the top 5 most popular Shonen Jump series for 2023 is Akane-Banashi, a story set in the world of traditional Japanese monologue theatre. This is more of a slice of life series and centers around a female character’s mission to become a star of this medium. Also top 10 is the very satirical and whimsical Me and Robocco, which is as if taking Rosie the robot maid from the Jetsons, giving her the Crayon Shin-Chan treatment and with Jojo kind of tone/undertone. We have protagonists over 30s in both Sakamoto Days and in Kaiju no. 8, not only the standard teenage hero or in their 20s. Not only is Shonen Jump a collection of shonen and non-shonen material now, it also has reinterprets and spins the classic tropes and structure of shonen more than ever.
Another word would be: seinen. I think the term is a lot of the times used very vaguely to refer to more mature themed but still essentially shonen manga and the line between shonen and seinen gets even more blurry every year. And I feel Shonen Jump now embraces crossing the line, keeping up with a more diverse taste in manga. Dan Da Dan and Chainsaw Man are very indicative of this. Sorry for the humungous post.
the blue exorcist shonen jump was also my first and only shonen jump
The delivery on that cream joke was very Tobias Funke coded LOL
BRIEF PSYREN CAMEO LETS GO
Back in the 00's I used to subscribe to Shonen Jump, I got it monthly for about three or four years. I don't know what happened to them though, I haven't seen them since I moved like fifteen years ago.
YOOO DD MARK ONTHE SHONEN JUMP ONE SHOTS!! BIG GOAT ENERGY
Thanks for the video . You are articulate and easy to listen to. It is quite rare for me to watch a whole video in that genre. Small bit of advice: it would be nice to see the title of the manga for ~2-3 seconds when a chapter starts. Allows the name to be instantly fixed mentally for the viewer when you pronounce it.
No joke I love Kagura bachi but why was gachiakuta not even mentioned
No Akane-Banashi?!? TRIPPIN!
Read centuria, its only 10 chapters and its really good
Clicked for Kagura aching 🙏 Goat sleeper manga, Chihiro my beautiful black and red goat 🔥
I really hope you dont turn out to be a bad person because this content is genuinely the best stuff that ive seen on this platform
this is like the second golden era, ive never seen so many good manga pop up
Bachibros, we are so fucking back!
Best Era of Shonen Jump was like 20 years ago lol
Yup, or even further back. The 90’s I’d say. Now it’s all flash and no substance. I don’t care about style if the story and characters are meh.
I saw the kagurabachi memes and they were funny but I didn’t think anything of it since I never read manga, fast forward to when it comes out and a friend shows me a website to read mangas for free I decided to read kagurabachi as my first manga. It did not disappoint. Genuinely a good story and art. Can’t wait to see where it goes in the future.
Kindergarten Wars/Youchien Wars deserves to be on this list as well, it started off as just a gimmicky story but over time it started to have deeper writing and especially the most recent arc that ended is really good.
Goat take 🐐
Goat video 🐐
Goat ad rev for the need 🐐
Honestly very surprised you didn't talk about undead unluck in this. It has been running for about 4 years now, yes, but its still a very good example of modern shonen jump
you should do a part 2 i was hoping to see gachikuta on here
Speaking out for Palestine? U got my sub
I'm still kinda worried tho because a lot of the good mangas are coming to and end or in their final arcs
the anime in the background is samurai champloo btw
Honestly you're not in the slightest wrong, this era got a lot of heat!
may it last more than 6 years.
Welp! Guess ama have to read _Gokurakugai_ now
it is funny because besides Kagurabachi you did not mentioned to 2 other that have managed to become mega hits, Blue Box and Akane Banashi, heck Blue box was the best selling new gen jump title until Kagurabachi came out. Also Dandandan is not in weekly shonen jump it is in Jump + online magazine where Chained Soldier, Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise is in
Thanks for show Gokurakugai i dind know this mangas exists, and you read MAD in manga plus ?
Gokurakugai mentioned
have yall noticed that dandadan is now available to read on the regular SJ app?? Idk why or when it started but I suddenly can, curious if anyone else can too
You know what's even better than these? My manga🔥
Just kidding just kidding😂
I literally read every sunday and sometimes just check leaks coz of how good these series are
The big 3 and goku would be so proud🤧
Also, W to you for that improtant notice... You're amazing for that🔥🔥
Oh yes Shonen jump is in good hands the era name is tough howecer with series like kagura bacchi or Sakamoto days this may be the slice of life assination era.
You cant sleep on show ha shoten either. The newest additions are also incredibly promising. Jump rn is so hype. I'm counting the hours until the new drops today.
kagurabachi mentioned 🥳
Fine yall convinced me to get the Shonen app again 😭
even though mha might be ending, horikoshi is going to write something new. Im hyped for his next series.
