Another thing I really like is how Yuji explains not wanting to kill in a way that doesn't feel cliché.
He says "I just think, if I killed anyone, the option of "killing" would force its way into my life. The value of life would become ambiguous. I wouldn't even understand the importance of those I care about anymore. And that scares me."

      Goku’s depth
Goku values his strength because of the events of his life. After losing his parental figure to a “monster”, his helpessness created a will to grow more powerful to defend himself and those around him. He trains to push himself to new heights and defeats the greatest evil in the world, Piccolo, and is then effortlessly defeated by his brother Raditz, When he asks Krillin to spare Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga, he does not out of morality, but out of curiosity of how far he can push himself. He calls himself selfish for this, but makes the choice anyways. This is the first step of Goku’s change as a person, Goku is pure of heart by the standards of the Kinto’un and yet he is innately flawed. His pure mindset is a both a blessing and a curse. He sees the best in people, he wants to be the best he can be, and he assumes that those around him should share his values. Goku puts his son into a situation that he didn’t realize Gohan wasn’t prepared for, and even gives Cell a senzu because hes so confident. Depsite his flaws, Goku is extremly self aware. Towards the end of the Cell Games, he sacrifices himself and apologies to Gohan for not making the best choices. He even chooses to say dead because he realizes that his existence has drawn seveal enemies to Earth, and during the Buu saga, he tries to give the mantle of Earth’s defender to Goten and Trunks that he cant fight all of the battles anymore, even if deep down he wants to. Goku literally abstained from fighting, the one thing he has dedicated his life to his son.
Kid Goku is a child all alone in the woods away from society and his lack of understanding of modern technology like cars which he describes as “monsters” is a result of his lack of indoctrination, speaking of indoctrination Kid Goku is a pretty great embodiment of curiosity, and freedom his curiosity is a result of his lack of teachings of subjects in modern society (lack of indoetrination), The flying nimbus is an magic yellow that Goku uses to transport those who have a pure heart are able to ride on the flying nimbus , clouds symbolize clear thinking and emotional purity these fit Goku well seeing how he is pure of heart and has strong set belifes on what is wrong or right, the nimbus also correlates to he freedom in the many way Goku is free is a set purpose or place
      Identity crisis
Identity crisis is the questioning in ones own idenity, once Goku sees Raditz and Raditz unfolds the story to him and his friends about the saiyans their heritage and occupation and just on general how bad of people they are, Goku is quick to say that he isn’t a saiyan and that he is Son Goku from earth. This neglectance of identity isn’t surprising seeing how Goku and the sayians are opposites and have drastically different morals,
      Goku’s self acceptance
Goku’s self acceptance coming from the realization that his saiyan heritage is something that can be used to good in the world to bring peace one might say the saiyan were ruthless and violent and ransacked peoples worlds to sell them when he accepts that’s he is indeed a sayian and tells Frieza he’s the super saiyan Son Goku, echoed through his speech “I am the light in the darkness” Goku here can be referring to himself the good out of the bad. The one good saiyan out of the many evil saiyans, Affect on world
Goku’s affect on his world is the affect on his friends who eventually became his enemies and the whole physical world, Goku in the cell saga knew that if he kept residing on earth his friends said everyone else would be in danger so it was convenient he could use transporting cell to the king kai’s place and also just leave earth for the sake of peace
In moral philosophy, deontological ethics or deontology is the normative ethical theory that morality of an action should be based on whether that action itself is right or wrong under a series of rules, rather than based in the consequences of the action, Goku has always kept this philosophy with him since a kid and this connects with his sacrifice great. Goku always had his morals over the consequences we can see this a lot with his interactions with vegetea ginyu and frieza, We saw many instances when Goku has put his morals above the consequences. For example, with his battle with Vegeta he could’ve killed Vegeta and bring peace. But he chose to let him alive because of his moral code and to fight him again. With Frieza he had the chance to kill him and yet he let him live becuase again he let his morals take over him and didn’t see the consequences
      Battle stance
In saiyan saga goku and vegeta stance and position are contrast of each other. While Goku sgands below Vegeta showing that he is the low class warrior also shows his view on strength. Goku was always taught that there was always someone stronger than him while Vegeta was taught he was destined to be the strongest and Vegeta looking down shows that he believes that he is the strongest and his strength is complete. While Goku looking up shows how he believes that his strength us limitless and that there are others stronger than him. Both of their stance show how they were trained, Goku stance presents the turtle hermit school, they move low and find a weakness and strategies, Vegeta represent the elite saiyan training and how the fight full offensive seeing how both hands show are prepared to strike in showing his nature as a saiyan
      Spirit bomb vs great ape
Goku and Vegeta main attacks contrast each other in the saiyan saga. The spirit bomb is said to take energy from your enviorment and goku being a saiyan yet denies his nature and stays with his nurture or his enviorment and it is also said that the spirit bomb is stronger when it absorbs the sun. Vegeta on the other hand uses his saiyan nature as his trump card which is great ape form and it is to be said to be powered up by the moon showing how goku symbolises the sun (being clear and self) while vegeta symbolize the moon (being a shadow and blocks the light) these two attacks symbolise their nature vs nature
Both Goku and Vegeta were confusion on who they were. Goku was in conflict with his saiyan nature and we can see him in conflict with his own morals and identity where he spares nappa out of the goodness of his hear (nurture) while he spares Vegeta because he wants to fight him again (nature). We can see more of this in his fight with Frieza and how he toys with him, says he’s going to kill him, and is drowning in anger (nature) he also speares him, gives him ki, lets him leave (nurture). Vegeta is going throught the same thing but is apposite as well. Vegeta is in conflict with his humanity and his saiyan nature. He can’t see to understand who he truly is which leads him to Majin Vegeta and Vegeta putting up a facade while deep down he isn’t him true self. He even goes to greater lengths and abandon his own mortality to gain strength. What’s great is that they were facing the person who had the biggest impact on them in their entire lives. Goku to frieza and vegeta to goku. Another is how it contast their nature vs nurture dynamic where vegeta was in conflict with his nurture while goku was in conflict with his nature
      Nationalism vs patriroism
Vegeta and Goku ideology both contrast each other as well. Vegeta ideology being nationalism and Goku being patriotism shows how they both took pride and identified with their race. This difference is how they toke in reactions when they witness the flows of the saiyan race tries to deny it and live in this false ideology that they are the perfect warrior which would cause him to go majin vegeta (trying to return the status of the saiyan race which vegeta believes are the perfect warrior) What I love about this part of the dynamic is how it showed the difference of Goku and Vegeta in terms of being free. Goku believing that humanity can move forward hows how free goku is while vegeta can get over the past and is blind by it
      Sacrifice
Goku and Vegeta sacrifice parallel each other perfectly. Both Goku and Vegeta desire caused more harm to the people they vared about that caused more good to themselves. We can see this with Vegeta and Buu and how Vegeta’s tubborness caused buu to be revived. For Goku was his actions with the red ribbon army and his desire to fight which caused more harm than good. Both Goku and Vegeta said similar thing when they were about to sacrifice themselves. We can’t beat him by fighting. I’ve been thinking and I can’t come up with any other way to leave the earth” Both of these showed that they were looking past fighting and showing that these sacrifice mean something other than any fighting tenchqiues. They even saw a reflection of themselves when fighting Buu and Cell. What’s ironic about these two sacrifices is that both enemies back which showed how it was never themselves to being with and that it was someone one. They both contraduct themselves, Goku ppannrd in to stay away from earth and leave it to the next generation but then chooses to come back and help Gohan. Vegeta when coming back after sacrifing himself fights the same way and contradicts himself again. Written by Anco@@g0jozl

I KNEW IT!! I knew Yuji is a special protagonist bc of his actions.
Yuji is one of the protagonist I can resonate with. What I mean by that is I understand his struggles and the pain he had to endure and still keep moving on and fighting back the evil. He is written close to some of us. He isn’t the strongest and not overpowered but this isn’t a reason to give up. He wasn’t able to save the people he cared and had after Nobara‘s death a mental breakdown. Todo came to rescue him as Yuji confirmed that he realized his convictions were actually excuses and felt some how vulnerable but Todo’s words could get through him and he found a reason to stand up and fight again. He needed the mental support.
His ideology of helping and saving others who are weak is similar to Geto. While Geto lost himself bc of a traumatic tragedy. Yuji is the one who won’t or doesn’t want to lose himself, his humanity, his altruistic demeanor. And I admire this a lot💜

This is your best video yet. The way you went down the list of protagonist and stated your reasons for not considering them the "perfect" protagonist immediately made me realize this video was about Yuji. I really like that you think Yuji will change the JJK world by being the first person to become strong while holding onto his humanity and is a wrench in thrown into the machine instead of a cog. I see a lot of people comparing Yuji to Geto ideal wise and even saying he might let go of his humanity and become a villain before the series ends but you provided a much more refreshing perspective. Keep up the good work 💯

Although it would be interesting if Sukuna beat the whole cast and this era we're following was just a cautionary tale of power budget. It's also an inversion of the Heian Era, where Gojo was to curses what Sukuna probably was to humans 1000 years ago.

I feel like a lot of people forget that we’re introduced to yuji in the first episode with him casually breaking multiple Olympic world records for different sports as a high schooler on his first time ever trying them. I get that the other sorcerers and curses are ridiculously strong too but that really soured my taste for the character who didn’t really have an interesting personality beyond that in s1. Maybe the manga did it differently or people just forgot about that by the end of the episode but it always stuck with me that he was just a natural born captain America without any training and I rarely ever feared for him in the first season. I wish he was just a regular athletic dude instead because it made him seem like he was just another shonen chosen one or saiyan or something from episode one and that his grandpa was just hiding it from him even on his deathbed. If you want a true struggling protagonist I’m not sure who I’d pick in shonen but Spider-Man is the first character that comes to mind for me

Shonen protagonists must always be stronger in battle, and surpass limits reached by the best of their verse, but the beauty of jjk is that the limit was set from the start, and made quite clear the impossibility of the climb. I don't believe Yuji will ever reach the strength of Gojo and Sukuna, yet his persistence to stay averse to change and be an unwavering force of humanity despite all the heartache, struggle and despair, makes his character one of the most compelling I've experienced. he keeps going, like we do, like we must do.

Despite my favorite character being Nanami, I definitely relate to Yuji the most. It genuinely makes me upset to hear people say that Yuji is a bad MC because to me he has grown into the perfect MC (especially after the Shibuya incident). And his growth feels like a slow burn rather than a montage of battles that give him time to grow. Everything is working against him including time. He doesn't even have a chance to fully process Nanami's death and then gets punished again by watching Nobara die (plus a number of other incidents). His character is perfectly crafted to oppose the world of Jujitsu Society and I wouldn't want anyone else to fill his shoes because the story would be just like every other Shonen. This video was amazing, just wanna put that out there first before adding my piece. When it comes to the characters that you listed before opening your section on Yuji, I would like to talk about Yuta and how he also conflicts with the core ethos of Jujutsu society that you mentioned.
It's fairly well agreed upon, at least to my knowledge, that Yuta stands as an exception to the idea that isolation and disregard for others, as shown by Sukuna, lead to strength. Yuta's character is founded upon a positive emotion, "love". Despite Gojo's theory that love is the most twisted curse of all, Yuta continues to display that his power comes from others, his desire to protect those he cares for, and to uphold the promises he makes to other people.
This is even reflected in Yuta's Cursed Technique, "Mimicry / Copy", you can interpret this as a symbolisation of the fact that Yuta gains his strength from those he cares for, as well as a symbol of his idolisation of his friends, as displayed when he used Cursed Speech in JJK0. Yuta also acknowledges the fact that he's blessed, something which he also states makes him unable to understand people like Uro, which actually likens him in a way to Gojo and Sukuna, who stand separated from all else due to their power.
Despite this, Yuta is told by Ryu after their battle that he will reach his limit, because he perceives Yuta's choice to spare them, regardless of whether it was for their points or not, as a display of his inability to conform to the ethos of JJK, Yuta is also presented as one who cannot embody the same pursuit of strength as Gojo and Sukuna, he cannot disregard others for power, as he recieves his power from those that ethos would require him to throw aside.
I feel like this is especially relevant after the newest chapter...
(BIG SPOILERS - DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED)
...where both Yuji and Yuta confront Sukuna together, both being acknowledged by the narrator as the protagonists. In the end, Sukuna is confronted by Yuji, a person unwilling to throw aside his humanity for power, and Yuta, one who gains his power from love, something which Sukuna views as worthless, even telling Kashimo as much after defeating him, seems like both of these characters combine perfectly to confront and oppose the core ideals which have persisted throughout the history of the Jujutsu world.
(SPOILERS OVER - SPOILER FREE BELOW)
Okay, I've said my piece. I do want to make clear that I'm not saying any of this to detract from Yuji and his importance as the protagonist of JJK, I just wanted to add an extra section about how Yuta also opposes the ethos of the world from a slightly different angle.

Firstly, I want to say the production on this video was clean, eye catching and inspired. I enjoyed the video’s thesis, ‘the “perfect” shounen protagonist needs to drive the action of the story, needs to struggle against the status quo of the setting, can’t be too over powered and embodies the themes of the narrative.’
However, I disagree with your analysis of JJK. On the surface the core theme of JJK is, ‘in order to reach the greatest heights of strength you have to disregard your humanity.’ (simply, the strongest have forsaken/ shed their humanity) and Sukuna seemingly embodies that. I’ve observed the core theme of JJK to be, ‘in order to reach the greatest heights of strength you have to know the essence of yourself’ (simply, the strongest are the most self assured). I believe Sukuna encompasses this theme more accurately as he frequently says he, ‘eats when I want, kill when I want’ alluding to how he does as he pleases because he can, because that’s who he is. Gojo knew who he was, ‘the strongest’, Toji knew who he was, ‘the invisible man’ who had no pride - when he lost against Gojo it was due to his pride and he states how in that moment he forget who he was, ‘a man without pride.’ All these characters knew exactly who they were and no outside voice could dissuade them on their beliefs of who they were.
This theme, “unshakeable self assurance = unfathomable strength” is best highlighted in Maki and Yuji (which follows your thesis).
With Yuji it was showcased in his fight with Mahito. Throughout the fight Mahito persistently torment Yuji with the state, “You and I are alike” - even though there were additional factors that contributed to Yuji’s abilities being inhibited, Mahito exposed Yuji’s denial of himself and that in turn limited Yuji’s ability. But once Yuji accepted Mahito’s observation as true, he found the resolve to stand against Mahito. Yuji, drew nearer to his essence and gained the strength to stand on par with an unregistered special grade. It goes without saying that this too was reflected in Mahito.
Maki further exemplifies the theme of the narrative. When she got her first awakening, it was more of a lore based power up - as jujutsu treats twins as one entity so the curse potential is divided into twins, which in turn hampers the overall curse ability of the individual twins (which is only worsened with a heavenly restriction).
Maki’s true awakening was in the culling games, where she had sumo spars with that one sumo guy. The result of those spars lead to Maki drawing nearer to her true essence which made her stronger even before the Zen’in massacre.
There are other great examples like Kenjaku but hopefully this is enough to explain my point on how the he true theme of JJK is how ‘strength is attain through self discovery which in turn can develop into unshakeable self assurance and that manifests unfathomable strength’.

@@JohnnyStar sorry about all my comments earlier, in this thread and the other one. I was off my anxiety meds and I was being a dick because my brain was scattered, shouldn't have been that toxic and I wanna apologize.
I wrote a really long comment about my thoughts but accidentally deleted it :| so to put it as briefly as I can, I think that Itadori is meant to be the same type of guiding north star for humanity's values that Ichigo or Tanjiro are; the reality us, most of us have more in common with Sukuna or Sensui or Madara than we do with heroes. We feel, we want, we let our actions be driven by the intersection of our feelings and wants, and that's how we live. Simple.
Itadori, like Luffy, like Kenshin, like Naruto, and so on, are all different in personality but the same in ethos, like unique colors of the rainbow that ultimately still have the same warmth that all light has. They push back against our individualistic, hedonistic, power-obsessed world and stand firm in the only force in existence that can save us. We think moody, tragic stories are the height of mature storytelling, but imo it's being a hero that will always be the quintessence of avant garde in this fucked up world. Some people are tired of the whole "my nakama, power of friendship" trope but as someone who's suffered in my own life, I still see that cliche as the most powerful act of defiance we can engage in during our short stint on this rotating rock.
When Itadori hits Mahito with a final black flash, or when Goku turns SSJ for his best friend, or when Simon beats up fucking God, I feel the same revelatory optimism. And to me, that's the most important part of these characters that they all have in common. They're all the same, and imo that's what makes them special.

i agree however mob has definitely a more feel good type of story, he struggles immensely but he figures it out with the help of his friends. which is awesome and i love it. but yuji fits it more in the sense of the hopelessness being around the corner at every turn you make. we see characters around him succumb to it and giving up. junpei, mai, choso and megumi in the last section of the manga. it’s like standing up only to get beaten down, over and over again. but still making the decision to stand up. mob psycho shows a way to stand up and keep walking. jjk is a constant struggle while mob psycho shows that things can get better over time. both are very good stories

You definitely gave me another side of the story to think about. Sitting there watching the 2nd season of JJK was the MOST GRAITING, FRUSTRATING, AND PAINFUL WASTE OF TIME I WENT THROUGH!......during the episodes and even after the whole season I kept thinking "this is a waste of time" "this is a waste of time" "this is the biggest waste of time." I couldn't stand it! I didn't know if it was because Mahito was the most ANNOYINGLY FRUSTRATING VILLIANS IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED, or if was the writing purposefully getting you attached to characters and then having them killed immediately for what felt like no reason, the flow of fights not making sense, or even the fact the fighting wouldn't stop. It was small fight, big fight, small fight, medium fight, big fight, BIGGER fight, what felt like the final FINISHING fight, then overhyped for no reason fight, and then a let down fight. Like I was SOOOOOO OVER EVERYTHING by the time it came to Mahito for the 3RD TIME IN THE SAME FREAKING ARC! Like I wanted that bug to die and die horribly and there was no consequences for ANYTHING MAHITO DID! His death did NOT hold enough weight for everything he did to everybody. As for Yuji I saw him breaking down and I kept comparing it to Subaru from Re:Zero and thinking Subaru did it better. I admit I was spoiled with Re:Zero before watching the 2nd season of JJK but still. I was WAITING for the moment he'd ask to be left alone so he could grieve and possess and TODO KEEP BOTHERING HIM TELLING HIM HE "HAD" TO GET UP, HE "HAD" TO KEEP FIGHTING! I was litterally yelling at the t.v. for everyone to leave Yuji alone and not put all those burdens on him at that moment. He lost a lot that day and if he was actually human he wouldn't of continued to fight with Todo HONESTY. They should of givin him a rest and when Todo got close to death or realized he couldn't win, that he would of called on Yuji and Yuji would of woken up from his shocked state to be like "I can still save someone" "there are still people for me to save" and that would of been A THOUSAND TIMES more satisfying. Yuji almost immediately got up to keep fighting. When that man shouldn't of been able to take anymore.
And that my entire opinion and thesis on JJK season 2

And it’s strange espically considering the anime’s she’s in joj filled to the brim with plot armor
Yet she still doesn’t even till the very end fate was not on jolynes side rather it was on the villains or more like the villian was controlling fate
Though what truely makes jolyne a struggler is her willingness to just go with the flow everytime she’s been beaten to the brink of death she just keeps getting back up and it’s not in that oh power of friendship way she just gets up cause she’s not done yet
