    You say that QLC is cheaper than TLC, but at 7:06 your graph shows the opposite. I didn't quite understand what that means. Can you explain? Thanks

    I use QLC for tasks where 1) high write speed is not required 2) there is no frequent data write process. I only use it to store files like footages, cliparts, music, and miscellaneous libraries. And I use TLC drives for tasks where write speed and durability are a priority and there is a frequent overwriting of the file. Therefore, I have a separate TLC drive for all kinds of caches, temp, files from the camera for everyday editing, downloads, etc.

      Yep, QLC seems great for drives where you just want to store a lot of data and not access it often. Until you read the reviews (generally - not picking on this brand) and see the sometimes painfully slow write speeds and instances of sudden failure using QLC. Not so great as a storage drive, if your data isnt very safe. I would use TLC as a minimum and MLC where you expect a lot of read/writes. Either that or be prepared for failure and have daily backups and/or run something like Hard Disk Sentinel.

      hdd is more preferable than qlc, qlc is just crap with lower durability and speed, is lower than hdd at 50% full, more hotter than hdd too.
      And also faster nand chip is just stupid if is generate more heat. 1 GBps is already enough for everything.

    Very informative presentation. You definitely explain M.2 NVME Nand technology in a easy-to-understand way. For those interested in fast transferance/processing speeds when handling 4k files and other heavy data, stuff like this helps make a better video editing rig. Gr8 video, thanks for the knowledge!

    Hi! I wanted to use your 8tb nvme as a backup solution for my video shoots. But as i now learned form this video, I hit a wall after coping more than 2tb. Then it shows down to way less than my older ssd's (slows down to 200mb/s while my old ssd' stay at 900mb/s). So it's not usable for this use case. Are there even any nvme's that don't have this issue? Would TLC work better, or are regular ssd the only way? I need to copy 4-6terrabytes as fast as possible after a shoot and with your 8tb drive, when the cache is full, it often takes overnight to empty it and regain full speed, so I can't even get my cards backed up in time if I need continue to shoot the next day . Thx!

      You want the Samsung 970 pro. It’s gen 3 but it can keep its write speeds over 2000mbs for entire 2tb capacity. But they don’t come cheap. They still sell for over $250 for the 2tb and 2tb is as big as it gets. Also, you’re looking at basically the same performance but maybe if you put 4 of them together in a pcie/m.2 adapter you could fit 4 of them on one pcie card to get your 8tb.

It’s getting full so i was looking at the Sabrent rocket XTRM-Q 2TB as a replacement, but that’s a down grade if I understand your video? I’m using the rocket for running my Mac OS because my Mac mini only had 128gb of storage.

    Okay. After I replied to your reply on my comment in the other video, I find this video. This does help explain things more, but now I'm just confused about the colors in the packaging. It seems like the TLC version is white and blue and the QLC version is black and blue, but at the same time it seems like the colors don't matter. I did notice that on the QLC SSDs you do have the letter Q on them. I hope I'm not bothering you too much, as I do seem to be a bit ignorant here. It would make sense to me if each type had a different packaging color in order to tell them apart, but if the coloring doesn't matter then what's the point of having different colors?

    When you put a DRAM cache Infront of both and shorten the test to 50 GB that's the case.
    However when you do a time to fill test on QLC vs TLC, you see QLC fall down to ~120MB/s and TLC stays around 1400MB/s.

    • @triparadox.c
      @triparadox.c ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they need to make the test at least 100GB. Some modern games now can take around that much space.
