Just bought a canoe off Contoocook last weekend, and it's actually visible in the shot at 0:32! It's the NorthStar IXP B16, gray canoe third one down on the far right in that shot. Can't wait to put miles on it. Congrats on the P15!
Love the Adirondack! Got the blue and love the look and it paddles well also. Not fast but nice and stable. Also got an Esquif Mallard, I already had a Suzuki 2.5 outboard motor that works great on it. Mostly I like to paddle, but enjoy the occasional putt putt. Really liking what Esquif is offering. Enjoy and keep doing interesting videos
Excellent video Justin... and congrats on your sponsorship. Props to Contoocook River Canoe Company for seeing and supporting your talents. I love how you find something you are interested in and get after it. Life is too short to do otherwise.
Wicked setup! I just ordered mine yesterday! Going from paddling old aluminum lake freighters and fiberglass cottage canoes to this will be a nice change.
Great video. Thanks for sharing! It is great to see someone creating good canoe content! I just got an Esquif Adirondack for fishing and have a Northstar Northwind 16 for longer trips. The Northwind is too nice to use as a beater fishing canoe, so the Adirondack is perfect. I added a Yellow Dog Kayak rod holder thwart to the Adirondack, and it is a super nice setup. Thanks for the vids!
The Adirondack is a great canoe. A nice, versatile craft. NorthStar makes amazing canoes. That Northwind of your....those are nice! I did get some fishing rod holders.....just have not used them yet....not really sure why. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your support
Nice mods, good job! Been waiting for a new vid, thanks. I am currently rebuilding my pontoon boat....really should document it I guess-if I was camera literate! Oh well, perhaps next time. (and....I hope you christened that new boat with a good beer!)
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Everything replaced but the toons! Have the Amish redoing the seats and console, upgrading to a 50 HP motor. Went with a cushioned heavy duty vinyl floor instead of carpet. Have to get the new bimini yet. Hopefully get it in the water before it snows!
I laced a canoe like the Brits do, via Ray Goodwin's directions, lots of holes drilled in the hull but it was an older canoe and rather worn out so no biggie. One thing Ray points out as a safety feature is to make the stem loops as small as possible, just big enough to get a carabiner or two into but not so big as to allow a grab for a hand, upon rescue if you can get a hand it it and the boat should roll in the water it will twist onto your hand and that won't be a good day. Maybe make the loops tighter. I'm fully going solo on my tandem conversions and taking the seat out, pinching ounces. If a person has to ride they can sit on a duffel or barrel or something. I notice with the seat out and carrying the canoe the front wants to rise up so I strap in a paddle as ballast. I don't have air bags for my Old Town Tripper but should get some for this spring. Now for a good pole.
The next time I go about this I may lace the canoe that way. I have already been out in the woods scouting out potential poles! Looking forward to making a few.
Hey Brother Justin! Great video. I hope you have a ton of luck with the new addition to the family. Look forward to some of your adventures soon. Congratulations! God bless you and your family. Best, Joe
Nice job on the new canoe. Thinking about getting out of my kayak and into a canoe. At 65 access would be a little easier. Congrats on the sponsor. Can't wait until your video comes out. Take care, Al
Yep, that's interesting because the old one I have is about 210 and I'm hitting the gunnels quite a bit. I had hoped that the length might correct that. Thanks for your help.
Sweet canoe Justin! Love the red. Just got a Northstar Northwind Solo delivered to my house yesterday. Heading into the BWCA 10/1. Your “accident” video with Joe was an eye opener for me. Very unfortunate. Got a new nice pfd to wear at all times. Great video!
Congrats on the NWS!!! That is an amazing canoe! How exciting! I have it's little brother, the trillium. I hope you have a blast in the BWCA. I will be in the Dacks that week. That accident incident was an eye opener for me as well. I am thrilled to hear you got something from it. Thank you for letting me know. What PFD did you get?
@@ItsGoodintheWoods I got an Onyx fishing vest. Very comfortable but not necessarily too high end. Took the solo out today and worked great! Psyched about the north woods now lol
anchor tolley system, a sun shade, a wheeled carrier system. lol i have an old plastic mad river canoe that i use when the grandkids go kayak camping with me. for all the extra gear they think they need. lol
I miss my canoe. Sold it around 2010 when I was unemployed, but we kept the kayaks. Lost the tandem kayak in the divorce. Kinda have the itch for a lightweight solo canoe. I've been enjoying your canoe adventures and I really want to check out some of those sites around Flagstaff and Debsconeag
You and I should try to make a plan for Flagstaff. And I am always game for another debs trip. I could practically guide that loop now. I know it pretty well at this point. I am really looking forward to getting back there. Solo canoes are awesome. You should join the North American canoe trader group on facebook, you can find some amazing deals out there.
That's a really nice boat! Quebec made! nice outfit also. Are you gonna put a spray skirt on? That looks like an Allagash boat 100% (and/or St. John river!) Are you gonna get a pole, or make a pole? you can also use poles for tarps in camp! Shrewd move! 😎👍👍 I was thinking about the pocket canyon for myself! I have a light weight kevlar boat that is cool for flat water, but not a river boat at all. where as, the esquif might be heavy, its gonna be seaworthy, or rock worthy, riverworthy??
Allagash is on my list!! Once I build my skill set and start tackling bigger stuff, I just might put a spray skirt on her. I have already been in the woods at home scouting out poles. I have found quite a few good ones out there. Time to get to making them! The Pocket Canyon is a legit river boat. Absolutely rock worthy. That thing has quite a bit of rocker. I had considered getting that over this, but ultimately decided on this as I wanted a good river/lake boat. The pocket canyon would do just fine on lakes, but not as well as this. But, the pocket canyon is absolutely capable of handling bigger river than the prospecteur. The pocket canyon is one awesome canoe.
Really like your new canoe. Wanted to ask you your thoughts on kayak paddles. I've never been a big fan of kayaks or double bladed paddles but i see on some of your videos that you and Craig have used them Really well on large bodies of water for added speed. Paddle selection charts show i should be using a 230 CM length at my height of 6' and my phoenix width of 30". I would be interested in any suggestions on kayak paddles you could give.
I would go bigger than that. My favorite double blade is 250. And I am 5'7" Double blades are where its at when it comes to speed and battling head winds. At 230, I think you will be smacking the gunnels quite a bit. I'd get at least a 240
I had already written my comment, that those knee pads will probably just fall off. Now you know to not disrespect esquif with that kind of garbage. In Ontario, most people just drill holes in the hull directly below the gunwhales, for making the bag cages (on plastic boats like this one). It costs nothing, and weighs nothing either.
I was not prepared to drill holes in the hull. But if I were to do it again, I just might. Like I said, this was a first for me, a learning experience.
I have been looking into the Esquif line of canoes . Are you aware of the T-Formex Lite option ?I know that is available in 2 canoes at the moment. I’m wondering if you know or can find out if the Esquif Adirondack canoe will be made in the T-Formex Lite option . I’m hunting for an Old Town Pack canoe ( Royalex) used but would rather buy the Esquif Adirondack T-Formex Lite new as they would both weigh about the same and I’d rather have a new canoe. Thanks
I just got back from a weekend trip in the new Esquif Huron 17 in t formex lite. A 17 foot canoe weighing in at 55lbs. it is amazing. The Adirondack is a great canoe! I know quite a few people that have the Adirondack and love it. I am not sure if they make it in t lite yet. But I can look into it for you

My buddy used a shop pad glued to a shower mat as kneeling pads and it works great.
