Wish You Were Here is an extremely underrated British film with a central performance, that I consider, to be one of the most underrated debut performances from a young, as of then, unknown actress, Emily Lloyd. I watch this film at least once a year (Bluray please!) in part for its stellar supporting cast that includes Geoffrey Hutchings, Pat Heywood along with an absolutely sinister performance from Tom Bell. Stanley Myers provides an exceptionally wonderful period soundtrack, and the film captures with ease authentic cinematic visuals in its portrait of a post war Brighton (though could be any seaside town in England) Emily Lloyd is just outstanding in this film. I recently read a newspaper interview with Emily from 2005, and like her performance in Wish You Were Here itself, I found her words to be humorous, strong willed, and tinged with sadness and melancholy.

I grew up near the town of Mayfield, Kentucky, where Emily filmed "In Country". Her Western Kentucky accent was literally flawless.

It can still be if you want it too ;) I must admit to often having that thought cross my mind, so its quite common! In a few years I'll be celebrating my half a century birthday.

She is absolutely brilliant in Wish You Were Here, for me her performance is still one of the strongest debuts on the big screen
I loved her in Cookie and Wish You Were Here. I saw the movie she did with Bruce Willis she referred to in this interview also. That movie was probably my least favorite of the movies she did around that time. I really wish she could have gotten more roles and notoriety but maybe it wouldn't have been a good thing. I know she has struggled with mental illness and she got fired and recast for a lot of films. She was a good actress and so glad I did get to see some of her talent while she was prominent in films.

In 1987 just after Wish you were here was released I was a 22 yr old agent trainee at her Hollywood Agency Triad. I got the assignment to drive her around town for Go sees. Saw a couple of movies screenings with her . Lots of time just talking most genuine person I ever met. Huge fan of Emily Lloyd the person. I know I am just a vague recollection at best in her mind if at all but the memory of her has had a profound positive influence on me. Stay Gold Emily Stay Gold. Love hugs and plenty of laughter

I will tell her I watched her interview on asinpall, I'm sure she will be over the moon. It's not everyday someone clicks on a TH-cam and watches a video. What an achievement.
I don't know all of Emily's work but for me, the so, so, sensitive counselling scene in 'Scorchers' with Leland Crooke (Jumper - her Dad) and James Wilder (Dolan - her brand new husband) has me in tears every time! And what a great American accent!
I agree, one the best American accents from a British actress, and I know the film was slated at its time of release, but I had a soft spot for Chicago Joe and the Showgirl.
She was only 16 when Wish You Were Here was filmed.
