+Ver “Verstande” Stande Me too. I think this might be the last though. I get the impression this is his last hoorah and a new chapter has begun and fair play to him he's entitled to persue his own music. If you're intersted in a new band with some massive fucking beans then check out Girl Band. Four young lads from Dublin and they're really ever so quite fucking amazing! Sorry for waffling on.
+Keverton13 Will definitely check out, I loved Sonic Youth forever now but now that they separated, I realized I was more of a fan of Thurston's more experimental and psychedelic music. To each their own though, Ranaldo is also a monster in his own right.
For the gearheads around: do you know which distortion pedals they use in the "storms" pggggghhh moments, like in 4:50 ? Thurston sounds like a distortion with octaves down one, he used to use MXR Blue Box in SY - also Lee and Kim- ...also I saw him recently for the first time with a EHX Metal Muff and keeps using a Rat too. Any clue ?
Chelsea Light Moving is great!!! I hope that a gifted soul brings them to Brazil. Last year i Thurston Moore was in playing solo in Rio and it was amazing.
fkore kore - It looks like he's been using an EHX Metal Muff in place of the Sovtek Big Muff that he had been using for years... He stopped using the MXR Blue Box for awhile now and noticed another newish pedal since doing Chelsea Light Moving. Its an older Zoom pedal (one of the few they analog pedals they made in the 90's) its either a Zoom Ultra Fuzz UF-01 (apparently very similar to a ZVex Fuzz Factory) or a Zoom Tri-Metal TR-01... He's also not using the Mu-Tron wah/vol in Chelsea and using some other newish made Wah and/or Vol (not a typical Vox or Crybaby...)
and the effect at 4:49 is probably a combo of pedals since there is some much overloaded gain going on and weird gated feedback, guessing its any combination/conjunction of the RAT, Metal Muff, Dunlop Hendrix Octave Fuzz, one of those Zoom pedals he's using...
My favorite song from the Chelsea Light Moving album =)
I hope he does more of this heavy stuff

This is what I wanted the last Sonic Youth record to sound like honestly.

i can literally smell the beer through my computer screen
It's too bad it was a waste of your time. Thanks for taking the time to tell us about it.
I wonder what pedal Thurston's using to get that crazy fuzzy sound in this song.

Those Teisco basses are fun to play. So light.
That one guy with long hair just jammin....
what's that effect at 4:49
apocalypse.
album is great. Lee's two albums since SY are also great. what's Kim up to now?? I want to hear it if ishe is doing anything.
Totally Awesome!
I really do love this band.
Back to the Sonic Youth "Sister" days. Audiogoodness.
thurston's amp looks like a fender hot rod deluxe, yep they're 40watts, tube power... i had one years ago and it was stolen from me :(
I'm loving this!
yeah, he's been collaborating with Twilight so I guess this could be an influence
The tremelo part has something very black metal about it. S'cool stuff.
How he managed to get that sort of level out of that tiny amp is a mystery
How much to hire this band for a birtday party?
I love this song
Tiny? That deville is a 60 watt tube amp.
Love the heavy.
This is fucking awesome
exelente como siempre thurston
Excellent.
pinche rola chingona al shile!!!, sonic youth! 82-92 reissue
I have that amp, it might be a 40 watt even, it is loud though.
Nick Nolte on drums.
+astrogallotron More like Will Ferrell
sonic youth 2.0
Yeah it sounds like Sonic Youth - and that's a good thing!
the crowds grim sway is like the simpsons when .......homerpalooza..i think was smashing pumpkins they were 90s grooving to
После прослушки в голове одно слово - безисходность ...)

4:49 the floodgates open.
The bass player is nice. SF/
crunchy

Rock boner right here. So glad I found 'em
how can i get them to play in MY basement?
most awesome
It is different. This guy uses light sticks, has a lighter style than Shelley. And not as much wailing as in SY. I like this band better, probably.
Imagine trying to mosh in there!
Fucking awesome. :D
this is cool, kinda loose round the edges, in a good way
this is sick! total detonation near the end...
lee, kim, and, steve sure look different...sound kinda the same though.
bleach meet daydream nation
piggly wiggly shirt?
Hair Guy at 6:22
Well, arty potatoes...
Dude, check out Body/Head, Kim's new album. AMAZING.
Knowing Thurston, he's probably using shit equipment and stuff.
Axel Tejeda the Jazzmaster he's playing is from 1964. Far from shit.
