I absolutely love 80's AMC junk. My old man always told me they were junk and wouldn't let me get one. I mean, he's right but I still love em. It's like having a 3 legged dog, still a dog, still does dog stuff but just a bit different... probably costs a bit more to take care of too but who cares?! Its awesome!

It seems that AMC did not always have tier 1 engineers or designers working on their new car projects. They also used somewhat mismatched and forcibly married parts from different manufacturers. Due to the OEM hackery you must employ your own hackery skills to make things function. Having made a few unkind statements about AMC of the 80s I will be happy to see you make the Eagle roadworthy again. Make the Eagle fly high and proud.

  • @jasonbose3507

Man, when those AMC's came out I remember everyone being afraid to race them because of the first official AWD SCREAMER! The Kings of the streets were AMC's and Buick Grand Nationals. You lucked out with this hidden treasure, plus, it's all complete except to replace worn parts, but hey, that's hot rodding.

AMC's are Frankenstein cars. Stuff from all 3 Fo/Chev & Mopar were used in the drivetrain, trans & engine. Plus i think the brakes & steering. AMC basically built there own bodies & bought what they could to complete it. Be nice to see that chumpy on the road. Nice addition to the family. Ty for taking us along

Shoulda said, "The Eagle Has Landed."
    A bit before your time.
The only person I ever knew who had one of these cars was a dentist who also had a 67 or 68 Firebird in his backyard under a parachute. That was how I knew I wanted a first gen Firebird.
The eagle was kind of cool he brought his son up on a Father's son camp out and they went romping around on the hillside with it. First time I ever saw a passenger car off road.

Excellent work as usual,in a rough as guts and entertaining way. Temporary fixes can always be refined,if need be,but I agree with the rip tear and bust attitude. If you ever doubt rough enough is good enough mentality please look up the Birdsville postman Tom Kruse and the just bloody fix it things he did with various vehicles. Shiny parts are not always fantastic, don't always save the world and hopefully your young bloke won't get stuck on the side of the road in the future because he can bail himself out . keep it coming

For checking out-of-sight clearance in situations like 36:20, one trick I've learned is to lightly wad up some aluminum foil and place it between the two parts. It'll crush down without putting much pressure on anything, and then stay there, letting you see how much space there really is (or isn't).

I remember wanting so much to learn from my brother or dad when doing work on things but I also remember wanting to do well so much that I couldn't always recall everything I had been told. It's often very hard for a young man like D.J. to do all the things he wants to be able to do and please Dad like he wants to so very much. Dad's are so important in a young guys or even gal for that matter's life. Dad is authority, Provision wisdom, Humor and of course Love. As some people say "it doesn't matter what you do with your kids as long as you're with them. Well yes that's always true but it's not the full truth. If you sit and just watch T.V. with no interaction then it's wasted time and opportunity. Sharing an old movie with someone is different and I do mean "Sharing" not gazing at the screen and having nothing to relate about any of it. I think as we Subscribers watch these videos and watch and get to know Both Dad and D.J. we really wanting all good things for D.J. and Dad too. At least if we aren't just a completely shallow, self invested, Narcissist with no clue as to what life is about and running full tilt away from finding out. All the very best guys we'll be watching and enjoying!

I just finished a manual swap on my auto wagon. I got that willwood too but decided to just use the factory master I had because I didn't want to mess around making the willwood work. I wanted to mention that factory, the clutch master does not bolt in straight up and down. The factory master the fitting for the clutch line is at like a 45° I imagine the reason the previous owner and yourself had to extend the line is because with the fitting adapters and changing the geometry of the line made it too short. Really sucks they cut a big hole in the floor for no reason. Looks like they replaced the carpet though and the sound deadening material used I'm sure you know was not factory. I'm seeing more and more eagles being revived on TH-cam and it's great. I need to start posting more content.

I do love that wee beasty. Cool shape, remarkably good looking interior, full gauge cluster - it just works for me. As to the work done on the beast this time round? Well, that mouse baby needed evicting and so does the smell, so hopefully Mama mouse had already found another location outside to carry on breeding.....or better still, got et by something feral. I'm also of the mindset that if something don't belong there, then it goes bye-bye. I had a Lumenition EI pack mounted on the inner front fender of my Stag.....even though there were points in the distributor. Someone had even left it powered up with the ignition, so the unit was sitting there receiving power when the ignition was on for no reason other than historical homage.
In tracing its wiring, I found that it (along with the signal wire for the electric fan relay) were slaved off the negative terminal on the coil......and yes, I'm talking about the same coil that feeds the points the ergs to make sparks happen! So, another in the series of how a 5 minute task turned into a four hour one, but the engine bay looks better with less wires - and so does the engine bay on that Eagle, mate. I know very well how tedious it is tracing wire and tidying it up, but it looks so much better after, eh. Wish I had the guts to go at the Stag like you did under there.....
Clutch master cylinder looks good, the reservoir is accessible and it all works fine, so a BIG win! Can't see anything wrong with your content to complain about, myself (not that there ever is, in my opinion) and I am looking forward to the next episode on the Turd Bird....or whatever its name is. Actually, did you pick a name yet?

I don't have time to watch everyone's videos, but I am glad I came across this one. I saw the vid when you bought it and was wondering how it was coming along. Now I know. Great car. Never be scared to spend a few bucks on it. I bet a lot of people give you flack for not being very "professional". So what. What you are doing is the same as 90% of the people out there. Have fun. When something doesn't work, you are not using a big enough hammer.

I certainly get that flack, but I also never claim to be anything other than some guy in his barn. Nobody in their right mind would pay me to work on stuff

@@PoleBarnGarage You know more than a lot and aren't scared to figure it out. You would be surprised how many will pay for that.

For being from the mid west it's solid. I'm a Chevy man but I've always been partial to these AMCs.

That master and slave cyl goes bad on all stick shift eagles. I loved mine, had three all at one time. SX4, black Eagle sport wagon, and one top shelf, leather interior wood grain wagon. All special order cars.

Ripping out that wire was a bold move, but worth it. Makes it cleaner and with reestablishing the needed connections makes sure you know where everything is and what you have for future maintenance. Done this sort of thing before.

Years ago there was one of these sitting at a local car dealerships back lot for $100. I looked st it, walked into the dealership and since it was the end of the day and they were closing in 10 minutes I asked the salesman if he would wait a total of 15 minutes for me to go home to grab my wallet, and I would by both of the back lot specials. He said they weren't going anywhere and to just come back in the morning. I got there as they were opening, and was told that both cars sold the night before when someone called his coworker at home and he went in and opened up for the other guy. Needless to say I never bought anything from that dealership again
