You read 20+ books and one of them was Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell??? That is insanely impressive! I’m reading an 850 page Robin Hobb at the moment and I can feel my reading goal slipping away 😂
@@romxilda it’s some sort of a super power. 💪🏼The way I’m such a slow reader. 🥹😬🥴 Started A Little Life a while back and I think I’ll only be done next year. 😭
the iwtv show is so much better than that racist weirdddd book btw! mind you, claudia is based on anne rice's 5 year old daughter who died from leukemia, so her sexualisation is soooo bizarre and uncomfortable, but i guess she was trying to give *vampires are predators*, which, okay, fine. i didn't love reading that part, though like whyyyyy! they've aged claudia up a lot in the show, however, so that she's perpetually stuck in adolescence and i think that was a super interesting exploration as the film ages her to about 10. it's also set in a different time period but i don't want to spoil too much because i think you will genuinely love the show (both seasons on iplayer btw) but it works better for the racism discussions, also, imo.
Omg I’m sad you didn’t like Novel Love Story. I will say I ADORE Seven Year Slip and while the time travel aspect is loosely explained I really liked the characters and romance so maybe try that one after taking some distance from the author haha
I still will give seven year slip a try because so many people have said it’s good! Romance is so hit and miss for me so I never know what I’m going to love or hate haha, so I’ll still give it a chance
Interesting, I had the opposite experience with Hell bent, I couldn't get into it after such a long break from the series and I ended up dnfing it. But overall I had a good reading month, 5 five star books! Two that I especially loved were Monsters: A Fan's Dilemma by Claire Dederer and Brotherless Night by V.V. Ganeshananthan. The first one is a personal essay about our relationship with art made by "bad" people, it was really thought provoking and interesting. The other one was a very touching and well-written story about the fate of one family during the Srilankan civil war.
It’s not just you!! Jonathan Strange didn’t work for me either for many of the same reasons as you! I DNF’d at like 70% and it’s so rare for me to DNF so late in a book.
Wow fruit of the dead sounds like sonething i would love. I have a love hate relationship with persephone retellings but this sounds more like a love situation.

Honestly I don't know how I actually did that either 😂 Thanks so much!!

That's an excellent reading month! I'll have to check out the essay because that sounds so interesting and timely!
I DNFd a novel love story so you’re not alone in your dislike of it
Oh good!! Have only seen rave reviews so I thought I was crazy!

I'm so glad you agree with me! It just felt sadly unsatisfying despite a lot of great aspects :(
Ok I think you convinced me to read Bandit Queens!
Please do! I hope you love it! And I'd recommend the audiobook too!
@ oh awesome, audiobook it is!

I'd be so interested to see what you think, because I think if you love the myth you could go either way with it!
