- Last episode we put down a $85 Tremclad paint job on this "rare" 1955 Chevy Nomad. Flat black is a timeless ratty look, but I wanted to take it to the next level. My goal was to get the perfect "barn find" look.
To get that perfect patina look we needed to add paint, distress the paint, polish the paint then coat the paint with some protective oil. Always something satisfying about sanding clear through a brand new paint job.

Dan, the stuff you do is incredibly inspiring to get back to my roots and just build for fun. Not views. I was doing the turbo ls thing and trying to get somewhere fast while making myself super unhappy but watching you just enjoy wrenching and draw in a crowd.. man I needed this

Something I really love about this channel is the fact that it's REAL hotrodding . It's doing what you can with one's own hands to build what you can that's not the same as everyone else. That's true hotrodding. Plus doing it on social media with all the keyboard professionals telling you how wrong you are meanwhile they probably don't have a car themselves. Lol I often thought about doing a channel but I think the negativity from the comments would get too me

I was hoping you were leaving the flat black. With a white roof. Maybe even some white steelies with chrome caps.
Yeh me too, but his hackmaster tendencies always overtake common sense. Put that on the side of the car in gold leaf.
Flat black all over for me and plenty of thickness to slow down the tinworm in time to come. I like the shape of this car, plain and stripped back. Leave the trim off. But, when you get right to it, this isn't my car.
I use boiled linseed on axe and shovel handles, seems wrong to put it on a car. Over here on this rainy, septic isle, it'd go all white and furry.
Oh my this looks horrible!!! I wasn't super huge on the flat black paint job, but this is bad!!! I thought maybe flat black with some nice pinstripes look good and work, but this... this just makes me sad... 😥

Oh, and if I get motivated to do it any projects that I been need to get done around here, and decide to film it and put it on my TH-cam channel I'll gladly rember to give you a shout if I think it's something you might find interesting... I've got a hot dog cart, I'm building I need to get finished up soon... and I keep thinking about getting back to my old car the garage it's not a Nomad it's a 74' Camaro. So yeah maybe one day... "maybe" I just got to win the lottery so I can afford to do anything, and also be able to get out of work as well so I have time to do it... 😆

First time in history I would ever just fall asleep looking at a Nomad when I seen it.
NOMADS look fantastic with the roof "off White or Cream color. It makes them stand out as a NOMAD, the slanted B pillar and the chrome bars on the tailgate. The rear tailgate & window have more angle/slant to them. These are all the things I LOVE about a 55-57 NOMAD.
I think the fumes are getting to Dan's head. someone should check on him.... lol Keep it up Dan!

Dan does what he does just so we will comment. It helps the algorithm. That way he gets some $$$$$$$ for a new paint job one day.
I think I would be more inclined to lay down some semi-gloss clear. By controlling the amount of flattener It would bring the sheen to where he wants it and add a little protection to the underlying patina.
Lace the roof as an homage to the old door! Car looks cool, buddy, and as you said: you saved it from scrap; do whatever you want with it!
Lace in Metal flake would be awesome !!!

I bought my 55 for $60 when I was 15 years old. That was 1968 and I learned so much from that car. I’m loving this build. I love the weathering. It so great to follow your progress.

I love this so much better than a guy who takes an old rusted car and clear coats the rust! This gives you the look, but it's on good metal that is not continuing to dissolve beneath the clear lacquer.

That previous work you did on the Nomad, laying down that heavy coat of high build grey was perfect. Yes you should have sealed it before the snow. Now adding the accelerated tremclad is the way I've always sealed a car with bodywork. Actually I used primer sealer from paint dealer but same thing. Whatever you do once that is dry and smooth matters not, is gonna look good. You definitely have skills.
Yeah I really liked the grey primmer with the white roof but honestly he can do just about anything to these cars and they are still cool as
The'55 Nomad came with chrome head light "eyebrows", fender and door spears which were diecast pieces and were unique only to the '55 Nomad. They cost more than a fortune in any condition. I was happy to see that they are "delete" on your project car. Also, the "aging patina" technique that you are doing, is such a welcomed change that is loooong overdue from the "trailer-queen" look (in my opinion). I can now appreciate the dings, stone chips and other mishaps that my car carries today.
From where that car was to where it is now is night and day big time in a good way. That car was trash when you got it and I love it. Flat black 55’ Chevy anything looks amazing. The shitty comments are just bots, or at least that’s the way I look at it 😂. Watched you since the beginning and your so humble and I love how you address the negativity in a non aggressive way. Thrash away as you told me some months back replying to a comment I made and I’ve made great progress. Thanks brother.

AWESOME! Who cares what anybody else thinks! its your creation. Dan put some PIPE INSULATION covers over your folding autobody stand so you can lay glass on top with out worrying about sliding off.
I love it, I just bought a 1978 trans am and it was nice but to nice. I couldn’t enjoy it because I didn’t want to park it anywhere and walk away from it because i was worried about door dings or it getting stolen. It’s in the wind to a new owner and I’m back to weather sweaty rough around the edges junk. Great video I enjoy watching your channel.

I’m not a fan of the “patina” look, it’s simply been used to death, but hey it’s not mine and it’ll still look cool 👍. I vote naming it CRUSHER. Thanks as always for all the time and effort you put into great content.

What you doing will give you a nice aged look and help out with some imperfection (scratches, runs ) I like the idea of not thwarting the "Paint as you wish, for sale" for a perspective buyer. Nothing wrong with more primer. I liked the black however. Do what you want Dan....

First off.. I enjoy watching your channel. Second, I think the roof would look cool in a dull gold or copper with flat black painted over it and sanded off to give it that patina look.

Black roof, it looks good in all black "patina". Nice work, good fun.
Man that nomad looked sweet in Satin Black.. You need drip rail mouldings above both doors and moulded rubber weatherstrips at the top of the door glass. All the butyl tape or "smuu" was on the stainless to keep wind and water out. Back curved glass in secured in with long curved pieces at the back and little L piece at the front same weird little pieces at the top of the curved glass. The slider glass sets in a moulded weather strip channel that rivets to the body. Both curved glass and slider glass take a finishing piece of stainless where they meet. Slider glass has a chrome latch that attaches at the front to close the glass. Good luck man and any car that's all tore apart is a hassle to fix up👍

I think that next time you do this (and let’s be honest; there will be a next time), get an air brush and apply the color that way. I think you may be able to get a more natural result.

Who would of thought that something I did to model cars years ago would become a real life fad. I couldn't do a nice paint job but I could "Age" as I called it with rust holes faded paint and all. I had a whole junk yard of model vehicles at one time. She does look two lane black top ready at the beginning and like a golden barn find at the end.

Hope you see this. Dad had an old mid 60s chev he painted with BRIGHT YELLOW ROAD PAINT.
Old road paint left over from line painting. Man it was bright. He called it tulip. Lol. Got lots of looks !
